Words cannot describe this...

Why delete the posts that were supposed to lighten the mood in this thread...?

Guess the inevitable mild flame wars about squid vs. ATGATT is preferable?

Odd thought process, but carry on.

this guy would have a field day in states with no helmet laws....

Personally, that's my gripe.

I see a rider in no gear, I think that they have no regard for their own well being. In that respect, I don't give a crap - it's the skin off your back, not mine. Now I don't need facts and figures to safely say that motorcycle riding is a high risk activity, and anyone would be a fool to argue that. So, if you can't be bothered to cover your own *** while riding, I'm going to assume that you're going to show even less concern for everyone else on the road. That bothers me when I'm riding on the same roads at the same time.

Worry about your own **** and stop worrying about others

I ride squid sometimes whenever the hell i feel like, I ride the same way squid or with full gear, i have the same regard for people and my skills or lack off don’t change due to the gear I'm wearing

My lack of gear doesn't make me a lot more dangerous that the ******* on the minivan that hit me from behind at a red light, or the ****** bag on the corolla that did the uturn in front of me which i had to evade, or the distracted chick to concerned with her cell convo to check her mirrors when she cut in front of me

Fortunately I saw all those coming except for the minivan, so don't worry about me and my gear, worry about everyone else

Riding without gear is a concious decision you make. Those asshats who nearly kill you don't make the decision to do so (with the exception of the nutjobs who do - they're a different breed). I know to assume that everyone on the road is a risk because they don't know what they are doing. You riding with a lack of gear is a decision you made.

Obviously I'm generalizing, there are exceptions. But it's one thing to be oblivious and do something wreckless, it's another to know better and behave ignorantly. The people in the latter category are more of a threat in my opinion, because they're unpredictable.

I have a word that describes this thread: YAWN

DR Sarcasm, the 80's called, they want the half cut tshirt back .... LOL

I'm proud of my girlish figure, gotta show it off - don't be hatin.

Honestly, I had no idea that there was such a division on this issue. Everyone that I've talked to from day one of telling friends that I wanted to ride, to talking to the guys at the bike shop... and especially the instructors at the training course... everyone has stressed so much about the importance of proper gear that it seemed amazing to me that anyone would ride with less.

Now you'll start to get into even further refinement: How much gear is too much? Do you absolutely need to have racing boots and full leathers on every time you ride?

Personally, I think gear only can protect you from considerable road rash, and perhaps serious bruising.

You really have to go all-out in terms of spending and gear to get stuff that may prevent a bone from breaking: such as replacing all the pads in your jacket(s) with specialty Knox or d3o protection (which can be very hard to find at this point), or perhaps those Knox Handdroid gloves which are like $400 and might prevent a finger from rolling onto the back-side of your hand... In major accidents, you're probably gonna rag-doll anyway, so the leathers will just contain the mess.

The best protection you can get for yourself is polishing your riding skills and educating yourself on best-practices.

Can we not take this topic and discuss it at the Timmies in the parking lot and point out what is a good example of a rider and what's not?

So much more fun!!!!

Encouraging good habits is all well and good. Setting a fine example is even better. Let's not get into the justification of why we do what we do and debate the moral high grounds for the decisions we make. Live and let live folks. Better yet, get out there and ride.

Some would say the exact same thing about riding motorcycles....even with gear.

It looks like the naked Kawasaki ZR7. I don't think that version was sold here, though. We got the ugly quarter faired one. Everyone hated it and bought sv650s instead.
