All forums have their beliefs - this one embraces a more moderate view i.e. freedom of choice, for example. On the other hand, if you were on the Gixxer forums (as an example), squids are, for the most part, laughed at, picked on, and publicly crucified via a picture thread (which is the belief of that forum).
Oh, don't you get me started with stretched bikes...THAT makes me twitch uncontrollably ("Gee, what's your trap speed...quarter mile times...you do drag that thing, right?")
Gear nazi... I'd never heard that one before. I am so new at this. I think I'll step back into the 'New Riders' forum.
Honestly, I had no idea that there was such a division on this issue. Everyone that I've talked to from day one of telling friends that I wanted to ride, to talking to the guys at the bike shop... and especially the instructors at the training course... everyone has stressed so much about the importance of proper gear that it seemed amazing to me that anyone would ride with less.
As for freedom of choice... you are absolutely right, my friend. I would never impose my beliefs on another and it's is totally his right to ride without gear. You're only a 'nazi' if you try to take that choice away.
Thnx to dr_sarcasm for the heads up. Lesson learned.
After all the research that I've done about motorcycle safety. After going to the M1 exit course. After reading all the safety related posts on this forum. After spending so much money on my own gear. I was driving up Walker's line today and saw this. My question is, why did he even bother with the helmet?View attachment 28468
As for noobs..I watched someone try to pass a minivan in the left lane (absolutely no cars behind the minivan..just had to pass for some reason..) then make a right turn from the left lane in front of the minivan (minivan locked it up..), totally blow the corner ending up in oncoming traffic before finally swinging it around, missing the island and getting back into the correct direction of travel lane. So for all the cager-haters, there's one who saved some cruiser dood from hitting the ground..
To me...it's the equivalent of a cager telling me I shouldn't ride a motorcycle because it's dangerous. What do you tell a cager that says that to you?
I follow with "Do you know of anyone ever killed in a car? Do you ever get in a car?"
Similar when I was asked when I was going to get a real bike, a Harley. I answered with the statement I would get a Harley when he learned to suck a dick. He never asked me again. No offense to Harley owners but that day I wasn't in the mood for a stupid question.

I've actually been saved by a tractor trailer... I was going southbound on the 427 and some chick cut across three lanes of traffic and came into my lane. There was a car in front of me and a tractor trailer to my left and I had nowhere to go because i was just about to go into the right lane to exit and luckily he saw me and moved enough to let me pass, and as soon as i was safely ahead he cut her off for me. Yay for some cagers!
:hello1:
The real lesson is that freedom of choice goes both ways. You have the right to express your feelings as well. This forum is famous for heroes trying to convince you that you are wrong so don't worry about anything and have fun.
My 2 cents:
Do what makes you happy, squid or not. I myself like to be prepared for the elements + the worst.
However, I don't feel very safe knowing more and more people find it's okay to put the control of their vehicle as #2 on their immediate priorities as they are at the controls of a vehicle...
Please don't get into a habit of busting out your cellphone camera while driving to take a picture of what you find curious. We all know what a squid looks like and those of us who have road rash even know how it feels when it goes wrong.
I'm glad you're all about wearing your gear and think it's a little wild for some not to wear their gear but distracted driving isn't something to joke about.
Looks like a white haired green midget riding two unicycles held together with red tape. Wait-- is this one of those psychology ink blobs or did I totally just screw that up?
