Windows 8 Without A Touch Screen?

Got a good deal on a new laptop, but its Windows 8 and no touch screen. Using Win 8 without a touch screen is supposed to be very frustrating. Anyone cross this path with both yet?

Oh, and to make this about motorcycles, have the leaves started changing on your rides yet? Any spectacular scenery? :-)

Tried using one like that just yesterday. I only used the Windows part, not the Metro part, and it was a bit of a nuisance. Would probably be worse for Metro and it's apps.

I've only fought with windows 8 for a few hours. Touchscreen or not, it belongs in the garbage. It's functional, but man do they make everything unnecessarily difficult in the name of change.

I have windows 8, don't really like it. I installed a program that gives me a start menu and pretty much only use the desktop mode.

Isn't 8.1 around the corner that brings back the start button?

I set mine up to bypass the stupid metro interface and I do have the start menu installed. Even with that though it is still really annoying, no matter what I seem to do the dumb clock and side bar come up ALL THE TIME. I have a number of computers and by far the Windows8 laptop is least used because of Windows 8. I am looking to replace my main desktop and am seriously looking at Apple just to get away from being forced to use windows8

Wait for Win 8.1 if you can, should be out Oct 22. Supposed to address a lot of complaints.

Same here. I tried to give the metro interface a shot, but I use my computer like a computer, not like a phone. To make matters worse, because you have both the traditional desktop and the metro interface, when dealing with certain file types, it flips back and forth. For example, by default, PDFs and media files are opened by apps on Metro, even if you click on a file in the desktop. I hated it. I basically removed all file types opening in Metro. The only thing I use now on Metro is Skype.

I hate windows 8 on my laptop. I hated it so much I bought a Mac!

Most if not all of the newer computers are bios locked to prevent the installation of Windows 7, just FYI ;)

google bios unlock
SLIC bios removal

They just take your bios file from the manufacturer and modify it a bit to tell the computer it can install Win7.
done!

I have 8 on my new laptop, and yes the new part sucks, unless you are using a touch screen, but you can just click desktop and it is back to normal, and just scroll to the right side of the screen and there is the start options. I don't find it a hassle at all.

It Sucks............Big time!!!

Seriously? From every manufacturer? If it's not everyone please tell me which companies are doing this so I can choose to never buy their stuff again. That's one of the dumbest computer related things I've heard.

Both my friends Acer laptop and my mothers HP desktop computer were bios locked. The SLIC removal hack only worked on the laptop, but a call to HP had me download an updated bios for it, then they said "Go into the BIOS, go to the Secure Boot option, and change it to 'DISABLE', then you can install Win7" so it looks like some manufacturers will help you out installing Win7, or look if your BIOS already has the "secure boot" option. Acer wouldn't help at all when we called "Nope, Win7 won't work on that laptop if it came with Win8, that's just how it works..." wtf? lol.

Sounds like that's just some security feature the user probably doesn't know about? I've always hated Acer, anyway, and after giving HP a chance I'm not a fan of it, either. Latest one my gf got had a cracked case just from carrying it right after the warranty ran out and then the charger failed. Then again I'm not sure who makes decent laptops any more. I had an Asus for 8 years that was great but I've heard they suck now. The Lenovo I had was about the worst laptop I've ever owned. The top of the line Dell I spent way too much money on is ok but it's had many numerous failures including having the video chip literally burn up (smoke came out) out of nowhere and after they replaced it, it seems to shut itself off while idle every couple weeks.
