Windows 10

I managed to fix my problem... only by restoring to a backup point prior to the last update. Now everything works as before but I have to figure out how to prevent Windows 10 from updating and screwing everything up again.

Go to Windows Updates -> View Update History -> Installed updates link -> Find KB3035583 -> Right-click -> Uninstall

If you don't know know what the above is without Googling it, you're safer with Windows. Most Mac users have no clue what that is.

Aha, had a couple people in my Systems class in my 2nd semester do that. "What happened?" Ubuntu, Mac, same thing.

I still have to disagree with you. You seem to say that people who don't understand stuff should use Windows, but then say that Mac users are inept?!?

I've found that Mac users tend to spread to the extremes and the PC users are more in the mediocre middle. I grew up with 6502, 6510, 8080 and 8088 processors, magnetic core memories, and punched cards though.

I find that there are 2 types of Mac users, those who know exactly what they're doing, and those who don't have a clue and just like the brand, a lightweight notebook, and less of a chance of getting infected. Though most noobs think Macs are invulnerable to viruses.

Generally speaking.

There are far more Mac users who have no clue wtf they are doing lol Those that use Macs for programming are either iOS developers or wanted to blow 50%-100% more on a laptop than a similarly powered Windows laptop. The rest are either brand junkies or multi media users that don't have a clue.

You can also bypass the whole Mac thing by building a Hackintosh...but that's probably beyond 99% of computer users.

I sit in front of a computer and peck away at it. When if doesn't do what I want it to, I cuss and swear at it. I suspect that I am your typical average end user.

Those Mac users with out a clue are the same people that ask if they have to right or left click on everything

what if they like the stability of OS X and ease of use?

I know a number of FreeBSD and sun OS admins that use macs because it works when they want it to work.

**** this. I'm going back to DOS!

You can play all the old games too!

The Windows OS stopped exploding after XP lol The reason for crashes before was due to programmers writing really ****** programs; Windows Vista (and above) were rewritten to prevent ****** programs from doing ****** things.

Macs, however, are still generally more stable due to having a much lower variance in hardware (same from Android vs iPhone). If you build a Hackintosh, it'd probably be as "unstable" as a Windows machine. Regardless, we've come a long way since Windows 95/98 and I'd say every OS, even random Linux distros, are all equally stable.

........that won't stop users from downloading FreePorn.exe, getting a virus, and saying Windows sucks though.

Windows vista and windows 8 were great money makers for Apple. It didn't help when ms would push driver updates that killed the keyboard, mouse, networking or vid card (and I had to deal with customers ****** off that ms did that)

Windows for life

True on the Vista and W8 point. Especially those who aren't very tech savvy in the market for a new computer. "The only computers available on sale are Windows Vista/8".

A huge point on the update pushing would be Windows 10. They make it seem like a "must have". I've almost clicked upgrade accidentally multiple times cause the damn notification kept popping up with the "upgrade now" button active where I usually press the space bar to wake up my screen..... I didn't really mind the little icon, but when they started popping **** up, thats when I decided it was time to remove that ****.

Maybe when W10 is more refined without any immediate/underlying issues after upgrading, I may consider it.

10 is fine now. I'm not even running current gen hardware (first generation i7) and nothing has broken.

Final Fantasy XIV, for some reason though, was blue screening like crazy when I first upgraded in summer. It appears stable now.

EDIT:

I will add though that some laptop manufacturers (like MSI) are really stupid and wrote their own drivers for the video card (Radeon 5850 in this case) and NOTHING has been updated to Windows 10. If you can't find drivers for your ****, don't update. I could see M$ screwing this up so it's up to the user.

OEM's don't write drivers for the hardware unless they actually made it, however they will pay the manufacturer of the chipset to make an updated driver. if the unit is 3 years old or so they usually don't bother paying for a new driver because they would rather you buy a new computer plus they don't want to deal with support calls on it (most oems only support the software sold with a system). at the same time they'll blame microsoft.

I've seen people write stupid stuff in every language I've ever used.

That still doesn't mean that all of those people and companies should switch to a disposable O.S. to run on disposable computers.

Tell that to msi. The 5850M drivers from ati/amd will freeze the system. You have to use the drivers from msi.

Curious if anyone else has had an issue with script debugging... I keep getting a notification up top that tells me the script has an error. I go into the internet settings and click off the two debugging boxes...still no luck.

msi doesn't write the drivers, they pay amd to do it. same with hp, dell, etc. dad has an alienware notebook, highest it will go is 8.1 as 10 really messes up the system, nvidia drivers from nvidia won't work. dell (who own alienware) stopped supporting it, the BT driver won't work in 8 or 8.1..

Doesn't really make any sense because the chip is from ati/amd and the drivers are universal. Somebody on some end ****** things up intentionally.

I'll admit I don't use laptops much but if you buy a nvidia or ati card for a desktop, the drivers will be updated by amd or nvidia until the product line's end of life and it won't crash....mostly.

Hopefully one day consumers can build their own laptops.

I uninstalled the windows update and my wifi is working fine.
Now go back to the update manager and click defer updates so it doesn't automatically come back.

Mine has been working fine too, since I restored to before the update.
