will not ship to canada

3 hours is not the end of the world, especially if you want an item that can not and will not be shipped to Canada. It took me about three hours to make this pick up but that included a stop for a sit down lunch as well as some looking around Niagara Falls NY. Pretty depressed and not much to see on the US side.

Funny I have never experienced any hassles or major delays at any boarder crossing. Maybe I'm lucky but I have been travelling to the states for over 30 years and have never gotten a hassle, even when i was 18 years old and riding a ratty 1978 GS750E with a kerker exhaust and travelling with a couple of friends on similar machines. I make crossings at least 3 -4 times a season without indecent. I don't think they are goofs, they just have a job to do.

When you were doing that, we didn't have the issues we have today, and of days prior to 9-11

I used to drive to Windsor, grab my cousins and go drinking in Detroit, never had ID, and most of the time too drunk to remember where it was, never a hassle going there or coming back, my cousin in the days before would not even stop at the booth, they were already waving him on, they knew his car his face his plate, he was across the border 3-4 times a week, come forward to today.....no more of that, they stop him each time, they say their piece and off he goes, same as when he comes back....

it used to be good in the old days.....LOL

.

The Americans don't care unless u have some kind of record. It's coming back that you might receive a hard time. Generally if you are picking up personal items they just wave you though. If you are picking up for a friend, they will likely have you pay tax on the value of the item.

The Niagara Parkway makes for a nice detour and worth the ride some time in the middle of the week. A lot of local folks cross boarder shop for groceries and fuel etc.

It's not a bad deal if you make it worth your while.

its not the american dudes.. they dont give a crap,

its the Idiot Canadians that make it a ****ing hassle. anyways... crossing the border USED to be easy, now its annoying and not worth it.

I purchase tons of crap on Ebay, and if i ever run into a place that doesnt ship to canada, i just find another place that will. usually its more expensive but when you take into account that you DONT have to drive to the states, you Dont have to pay duties, you Dont have to pay for this other place to Re-ship it to you. it works out to about the same price, but its delivered to your door.

off topic q: Any idea if I can cross with a passport that's expired for a few days? Likely my Vermont ski plans are gone to ****.

Passport or enhanced drivers license are required.

This. If you passport expired yesterday you're still SOL. Sorry

you might even be SOL with a passport that is valid for 3 more months... I have even heard 6mth from expiry, they will/can deny you entry... my experience tho.. as recent as March.. exp 5 days,, allowed entry without a mention ,,, a canadian with no passport allowed entry to US with verbal declaration.. and a photo copy of their school card.. and a application for a passport form fill out. lol.... yup.. I was beside them when the guard said.. WTF is this!? then said.. carry on... then cautioned.. they may never be allowed back into canada! without the passport! whatever,, we may as well spend the planned day in USA now.. then attempt to enter Canada .. instead of turning around right away.. re-entry to Canada was... all Canadians,, buy or receive anything while away,, carry on.

also,, don't get caught picking things up for someone else... unless you are a licensed broker.. you can't ..

I entered canada on a container. No papers necessary.

A few years ago I entered with my regular driver license. Guard did not even want to hear my explanation, just waved me through.

when you cross US customs. do you just tell them you're going to cbi and pickup stuff? and on your return trip, if you tell canadian customs what you picked up, do they ask to see receipt and make you pay tax?

no, no, you say "my name is Enrique Escobar, I will be gone a short time to see my Latino friends over the border, please do not search my rectum on my return".

My passport expires May 29, i just went to Buffalo to fly to Boston May 6. Zero issues.

You might wanna read from US embassy webpage here:

http://canada.usembassy.gov/service/frequently-asked-questions.html

specifically this part:

Expiring Canadian Passport
For Canadian citizens: My passport expires in less than 6 months. Can I still travel to the U.S.?
Your passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your planned trip to the U.S.

Mmmkay? So, have proof that you're only staying for 24 hrs and you're golden with an almost expired passport.

if you read my post I still go cross boarder at least 3 - 4 times a year, not talking strictly about "the old days" Im still doing it and get no attitude from the boarder guards.

board·er ---

  • a person who receives regular meals when staying somewhere, in return for payment or services.
a person who boards a ship during or after an attack.
a person who takes part in a sport using a board, such as surfing or snowboarding.
Border- a line separating two political or geographical areas, especially countries

and a freebie as well

Breaks- not what stops your car or bike.

Actually, there is a grace period they do not advertise, but only on land entries. Last year my buddy and I discovered that one when he was advised by a US Border Guard that his passport had already expired. I was thinking oh great now I have to go skiing by myself. After a short wait at the booth, (the guard closed the gate behind us), he returned to the car and told us that they would allow him a grace period on the passport expiry. He was told to get it renewed as soon as possible, which he planned to do because he and his wife were heading back to the States in a couple of weeks.

I would not recommend showing up with an expired passport, but if it should happen, it's nice to know the border guards can grant you some leeway, should they choose.

I have Nexus, well worth all the paperwork you have to do before you get one. The most time I ever waited to cross was 5 minutes, taking the Whirlpool Bridge when I go to CBI :)

US customs will not turn you back because your passport is expired by a few days or a few weeks. They will simply tell you that you cannot fly within the states on an expired passport.
You can still gain entry with an expired one, they might also ask to see your drivers license or BC though along with the expire passport.

Works out better if you have a friend in Delaware (no sales tax) that returns to Canada (along with your stuff) every 2-4 weeks. ;)
