Why Engagement Rings Are a Scam

Well I got a good friend , travel companion, someone that shares expenses, a barometer to keep my wacky ideas in check, designated driver on occasion and a great mom to the 2 kids we have.

Stats say 6 out of 10 don't get that same result.

Wow. We get it. Your wife is the best.

No one should have to give a diamond ring to get that. I guess I'm having difficulty getting my point across.

I'm just trying to say that one shouldn't have to give a women a diamond ring to ask her hand in marriage. I was trying to say that at least with Xmas presents you both get something cool. Whereas with a diamond ring most guys just get what they should anyway.

I totally got your point, I'm a traditionalist.

She really is the best, I'll let her know you agree

The scam is ppl thinking that they can turn around and sell the ring for anywhere close to what they paid. It isn't an investment.

News flash, the entire wedding industry is a scam. We did the City Hall thing because I was getting mad at all the gouging and the oppressive religion in just the ceremony. No engagement ring, that money went on the mortgage, titanium bands and that was it.

Then we decided to do a reception at our house with around 80 people. Say the W word and for the same services the fee goes up 5 to 10 times, everything gets jacked up. A photographer at your party for three hours, that is $200, say three hours at a wedding, it is now $2K. You want a catering for a party at your house, $20 a head, say wedding and it is $100--same food. Bartender, tent, whatever....so on and so on... total efing scam. We booked everything as a "house party", saved a bundle.

Nothing like gouging to put people in massive debt right when they are starting out. For us, kids were born, house was bought, then we considered wedding. Absolute right way to do it.

you think gouging for anything wedding related is bad?
...try pricing out a funeral!

Ask yourself whether she would have accepted you if you didn't blow a lot of money on a useless trinket... I'll bet ya anything that she would have.

Huge scam industry with those vultures sucking the blood out of people during their most difficult emotional times. That's why I was happy to hear that you can buy a coffin at Costco lol

Your absolutely correct she would have, I didn't blow a lot of money on a useless trinket. In many senses we are both traditionalists. She really liked the idea of a ring, it told complete strangers she was off the market, spoken for. I had to deal with less guys at the bar being a bother. Money well spent in my mind.

There's plenty of rings on kijiji you can low ball.

Now I wonder, can you buy a coffin on jijiji? Slightly used in good condition? Maybe dropped in the driveway while washing it?

I spend more on tires in a weekend then I spent on my wife's engagement ring. She loves the ring, hates buying tires.

Tires are kind of a ring.

Those stats are correct and if the ring was the only thing i'd loose in the 6/10 side of things, i'd bit the bullet. But you stand to loose so much more than a ring. But thats a whoe new thread.

Glad things are working for you but as mentioned, a good woman would love a good man with or without a ring.

Sorry, couldnt find a better quality video but the song is just too good/true!

Years ago, when we were scrambling for an unexpected funeral, the funeral homes have you bent over the rails. Then when you start pushing back, they say you can go around the corner and get the urn/casket for 60%+ off at places like Casket Depot. CASKET DEPOT!?!? wtf?

yeah. Weddings and Funerals man, they have you by the balls if you want to give in to their shenanigans.

There is a Casket Depot Wtf the pricing is really good as well and they deliver to the funeral home next day free.

You could skip the casket and do cremation. They have rental caskets. You can make your own box for the ashes. Don't have a lunch/ wake after. There are dozens of ways to spend large or little on a funeral.

Don't pre pay a funeral, why let ' fred's funeral boutique ' collect all the interest on that investment, yes they share, but they aren't doing it for free. Unless your family is a mess, then it may be an easier solution.

I want to throw a dart at a map of the world and pick a dish from whatever country the dart hits. Peru....hmmmm.....how many roasted guinea pigs for a group of eight?

Humbug to all.

I have a friend, his family gave up on traditional Christmas dinners, so now the family gets together each year and they do a dinner from some place in the world. Each year somewhere new. Pot luck style, Vietnamese one year, indian the next, Mexican after that
