Why Engagement Rings Are a Scam

Only manginas care about their wives happiness...

But seriously, if a ***** goes nuts over a diamond ring she's a vain cumdumpster and should be treated as such.

Just to be clear, when I mentioned all those traditions was merely to point out the hypocrisy of some to isolate one tradition and call it a scam but yet attending all others that could "by their standards " also be considered scams. I got no problems with people that celebrate any of those, to each their own.

We don't do present because whenever we need something we go and buy it so not having to go shopping when malls are a zoo makes the holidays a lot more enjoyable with less "to dos"

Gift giving for traditional sakes, especially outside immediate family, sets up a funky vibe. Why are newspaper social pages chock full of "Christmas is the most stressful time of year" articles?

One of life's traditions is to make fun of traditions, especially wedding ones.

If you go back a century or so most wedding traditions didn't exist including white dresses.

Most "traditions" are money makers for someone or another. When I go to an ethnic wedding I carry a bunch of small bills for all of the traditional money makers.

Christmas traditions are a bigger joke than wedding ones.

The non-religious part of Christmas is one big guilt trip. "Did we send a card to the Jones last year? Did they send us one?"

Ignore the family all year because of work and go into debt to buy forgiveness gifts. Next year you have to work harder to pay off the credit cards.

Since I'm bytching I might as well admit to being sick of turkey and sicker of people that have to have it. I want to throw a dart at a map of the world and pick a dish from whatever country the dart hits. Peru....hmmmm.....how many roasted guinea pigs for a group of eight?

Humbug to all.

I do like turkey, but this is an amazing idea. :)

Wow, there's a few reasons why a lot of you guys are single/divorced/working on getting divorced.

But I'll agree I don't see the stress of Christmas or birthdays or whatever. Just listen all year long when somebody says "i like the look of a demacus steel kitchen knife but couldn't justify the expense" or " I hear those wicking T shirts are good" , then make a mental note and pick up whatever. get one or two things a month and by Dec1 your done, and its all paid for. Stressless C'mas is easy.

Traditions are good, they build memories and things to look forward to. If you don't look forward to friends and family and a good meal, you have the wrong friends. Family you can fix with alcohol.

Everybody needs one good juicy rationalization per day.

I love traditions....so upset when burning witches became a social faux pas.
Yea, you are just gonna have to divorce her instead

News flash, the entire wedding industry is a scam. We did the City Hall thing because I was getting mad at all the gouging and the oppressive religion in just the ceremony. No engagement ring, that money went on the mortgage, titanium bands and that was it.

Then we decided to do a reception at our house with around 80 people. Say the W word and for the same services the fee goes up 5 to 10 times, everything gets jacked up. A photographer at your party for three hours, that is $200, say three hours at a wedding, it is now $2K. You want a catering for a party at your house, $20 a head, say wedding and it is $100--same food. Bartender, tent, whatever....so on and so on... total efing scam. We booked everything as a "house party", saved a bundle.

Nothing like gouging to put people in massive debt right when they are starting out. For us, kids were born, house was bought, then we considered wedding. Absolute right way to do it.

The entire wedding industry is not a scam, its a business. It is however a business which utilizes emotional buy in and if you (your bride) cant separate emotion for a small part from sensibilities than you get what you deserve.
There are hundreds of ways not to spend thousands, but once that juggernaut gets momentum it can take on a life of its own if left unchecked.
I agree its nuts, I can see how it happens.

The same people that spend 100k on a wedding are sometimes the same guys that have a 3200sqft starter house, two great cars and are a paycheck away from caos. Unless it was an awesome ethnic wedding and the house was a gift......

In other news..... Santa Claus isn't real, and Xmas and the whole exchanging of gifts is a commercial scam.....

But instead of just getting the vagina you should be with an engagement ring, you both get hopefully useful gifts at Xmas.

Sorry to have to be the one to tell you, but if you know what your doing, a vagina should be useful to both parties involved.

You need awareness. Like this mornings coffee run an old lady (about my age) called me sweety. I was not aware of her vagina. I could probably use some tips, like where the ring comes in.

What do you get with an engagement ring?

What do you get with an engagement ring?

Well I got a good friend , travel companion, someone that shares expenses, a barometer to keep my wacky ideas in check, designated driver on occasion and a great mom to the 2 kids we have.

Stats say 6 out of 10 don't get that same result.
