Why Engagement Rings Are a Scam

Cartels = price fixers

Other things are controlled by cartels, fertilizers for example. All it takes is one member to drop out to price cut and the market shows its true value, usually a massive decline.

Is there one in the series about how Youtube videos are a scam? Oh, the irony.

I used to have 3 motorcycles in the garage when I was single.....I now have only one old beater.....

...and I never bought an engagement ring. Come to think of it deBeers used to say a months salary...think it's up to 2 months now.

A woman my wife worked for found out that her ring cost less than someone else's so she made her boyfriend return it and get a more expensive one. Kind of sets the pattern for the marriage.

That dude needs to run, run long, run far...poor sap is going to be miserable if she's starting that kind of talk

They are a TOTAL ****ing scam, and I hope every woman sees this video. Marketing has programmed (typical) women's views SO amazingly well, it's shocking.

When I got engaged a few years ago, I had to get my wife A diamond ring; it made her happy, and she gets to show it off to people (I get to show her off to people, so I guess it balances out) and it doesn't lose much value, should times get really hard.

Anyway, when I was sourcing the rock, I tried to convince her to let me get a manufactured diamond... I'm a mechanical engineer, so did quite a bit of research into it, but basically manufactured diamonds can be made to have nearly PERFECT cut, clarity and colour (and some cool luminescence, too) AND can be had for roughly 1/5 the price of a natural stone. PLUS you don't support tearing apart our earth with huge mines, African child slave labour and militant territory gang wars but nooOOOOOooooooooo.

I was this ->||<- close to doing it anyway. sigh.

my wife shopped with me and picked out her own engagement ring -two months later the CEO of the company was quoted as saying that his stores only sell overpriced cheap stuff. Didn't bother her at all. We will celebrate 24 years of marriage on Monday

It's just symbolic. First question, just like when buying a 600SS, is how many kilometres of cock have been run thru it. Then you hand over the appropriate amount of money. Money, like diamonds, is only symbolic. It only represents blood, sweat, tears, strategizing and hard work. That's all money is, so basically meaningless.

Just say no to diamonds, suckers!

Who is this Adam guy who made the video? I am liking his style..."Adam ruins everything"... yeah, that's exactly what we need, a good kick to the head so we wake up.

You got scammed.

You let her dictate the gift you were giving to her. And still asked for marriage. SMH

I hope you guys don't buy christmas presents, or take your GF's/wifes out for Valentines, or buy a turkey for thanksgiving or presents on anyones birthday... etc etc etc.. Everything is a scam BUT.... it is up to you and your significant other to chose the things that will be meaningful to the two of you regardless of the commercial machine behind it.

My wife and I do not celebrate any of the above, for christmas she goes to church with her parents and we do not give each other presents, neither for our birthdays, she has never asked for anything of me and same the other way so I choose to give her a really nice engagement ring becasue it is meaningful to us and something that will be passed down to our kids as a memory once we are gone.

Almost the same situation. Except for marriage and the rings. Neither of us are religious and don't feel the need to follow the herd.

Great video.
I have a friend, last name Dorfman, his family is in the gems and precious metals business.
He told me if all the diamond dealers released all their inventory on the market today, they would be worth less than 10$ a karat.
The setting would cost a hundred times more than the shiny rock.
As Krishan said, the engineered stones are better than real now, you could fool most people.
