Why Do You Ride?

First word was bike. First ride I was 3 years old, sitting on the tank and holding the bars. No helmet and we went around the block a few times (yes, I remember this). Hooked. I have no idea how I found out about motocross, but it's what I always wanted to do.
Always had toys, was never allowed a dirt bike though, but I always snuck them in to the garage... Somehow I always had a "friend" that needed me to take care of their bike lol.
Motocross... It's speed, aggressive, tough, dirty, in your face and very physically demanding, and you can never plateau, you're always working on technique to get just a bit faster, fly further, scrub better etc etc. Such a dynamic sport that just fits my personality.
I stayed off the street until I knew I was mature enough to ride safely, and for insurance rates to drop (25). I love being able to get out and pass anything at any time. And it's awesome to know that my $4500 bike can go out and pick on cars worth way much more and it can turn heads.
Fuel economy is nice in comparison to the truck so it's my daily driver from April/May until late October (after that there is always a chance of ice up here). Actually saves me money to own the bike.
And the chicks dig it, which is all that really matters.

What made you get into riding? Is it the enjoyment of being on two wheels? The cool/pick up chicks factor? Easier commute? Posing/Showing off?

Personally, I always wanted a motorcycle. I guess it was the "cool" factor for me at first, but after riding a few seasons, my outlook has certainly changed. I love being on two wheels, I love the "faster" commuting times, I love putting girls on the back, but I actually ride. I don't pose, you will never see me at a Tim Horton's shooting the ****. I work 6 days a week, so I take the opportunity to ride when it's available.

So, enough about me, let's hear a little about you.
Why do you ride?

Dude i really respect that.lol Its not often we (me and the guys i ride with) see people who actually only ride and never stop, if we could we would just zipper down and piss while we were moving.lol

For guys/girls who started riding bikes since they were kids its a different story, for me its more of a habit, a part of my life, imagine smoking for all your life. Its something that, i can go on late at night when everyone is sleeping, just forget about everything, all the problems, douschebags, girl problems, work problems, school, life, and just ride hard, have smile on my face, and when you can RIDE, its actually more fun, carving turns, busting a wheelie out the corner till the next corner, bring it down, carve that corner, come out see a stop sign, nose wheelie all the way to it, drop it in first, do a donut, shift into second and coaster redline, drop back to BP and throw you left and in the air and leave the scene like a boss.lol

Theres a reason those late riders ride at night when everyone sleeps, the whole city becomes a race track, in the sense, as long as you are being resposible and not annoying, you can have a lot of fun under the radar.

During the day its more about commute, once youve been so used to traveling fast, quick and efficient, riding just becomes a whole different tool in ones life imo.

sport bikes are more to have the thrill and adrenalin, and supermotos to enjoy more nature and have that all terrain fun, knowing you can go anywhere and discover new places. I have discovered routes from one place to another that would seem impossible. lets just say when i ride the sport bikes and have some heat, i can dissapear in few seconds.lol

but yea, bikes are just too convenieant, fun, and so much more, people use them for many different reasons, heck even for posing.lol

Cougars!

Because chicks like them. If I didn't have a bike my wife said she would leave me.

I ride because I have nothing else to live for and I don't fear death.

I don't know about having nothing else to live for but i do get what you mean about not fearing death, i have the same thing both me and my cousins experienced near death, and we saw the "otherside", ever since that day we never feared death, we actually sometimes push our luck on purpose, to try to get some feeling of fear, but we don't its like somehow something removed the emotion of fear from us, or maybe realising the fact there is the otherside we no longer fear this life.

I always felt a "calling" for bikes since a little kid, but never tried cz I was afraid I'd kill myself.

I have to say that it was one of the best things I ever did in my life... I love the excitement on two wheels and the feel of control. Still getting used to the speed thou.

don't worry about killing yourself, you'll go when its your time, i don't mean to sound like im preaching, because im not, im just trying to be truthful from my experiences. If you have a strong faith, you'll be fine, just enjoy your bike, theres already too much crap in this world to worry about dieng...this is coming from a dude who knows how long he has left to live. just live in the moment and do what you can to live right and everything else will fall in place.lol

Woah, that's was like, deep.

Started for the cool/pose factor, then I got insurance quotes lol. So I picked up a 250 figuring I may as well learn and fell in love with being on 2 wheels and carving out the twisties. I don't even pose now that I have the 675 (food meets don't count imo)

Thats a lie

Not in my situation, in my opinion death is only a door to heaven for some.

Had a very near death experience recently and it was a very odd feeling, I felt complete peace for a split second before coming back to reality.

growing up in the 70s, during camping outings, I would always see the older bikers touring on their big bikes on the highways with the rolled up sleeping bag and gear on the back. I fell in love with the idea of being free on the road. They looked like non-conformists, a bit rebellious, I thought they were cool.

My dad was from this same ilk, he grew up in the late 50s early 60s riding, all be it not a cruiser, a Lambretta wearing a black leather jacket and as a kid I remember one parked in the back yard (out of commission) and I used to play on it.

Now it took me forever to get into it but I finally did and am loving every second of it.

As for not fearing death? death may come quick to riders, especially at speed. I fear the pain that my death would cause my family and friends so I ride as safe as I can.

Well I have a motorcycle, might as well ride it. *shrug*

It's the feeling of being in control. It's empowering.

And knowing that you could die at any moment, it makes you forget about the small things in life that are not important.

haha, well put.

For me: I was always interested in motorcycles. Timing was never right, didn't work with family etc (they were helping support me, didn't want to disrespect them). Well now I support myself, so I decided to get one.

So good.

I started riding at the age of 8 (Honda Trail 70). I couldn't get enough of it, and rode my uncles little bike right into the ground. Not like he and my cousins didn't too, though. Also love snowmobiles but that's pretty much over as I hate having to drive 2 hours to get to snow ... maybe if I owned a cabin, but then I'd have to take care of it, and I like to keep busy...

Today I just don't feel good without motorcycles in my life. Doesn't have to be every day, but it has to be often...

I ride for fun and profit. Right now I'm contracted to Barnum and Bailey Circus to study countersteering. They've had no luck getting the clowns to understand it. We're filming a series of videos right now. A youngrider is helping us.
