Why Android is better than iPhone.

cheers for that.yeah, that's what i know for most of my other devices, but i never know with apple products.currently comparing both phones side by side, and my galaxy s2x is a clear winner for me. admittedly, the iphone4 is not noticably slower than my phone, but imho, the galaxy is slimmer, lighter, beautiful form factor, very obviously larger screen (something my wife is already lamenting, as we are at the age where we need bi-focals), and hellishly powerful.i predict that the iphone5 will be at least a 4" screen if not 4.5", and hopefully with gorilla glass.we're out for the day, but i will update her phone to ios 5.0.1 through itunes tonightis the version of ios update at all dependent on carrier? we're on telus

the beautiful thing about iOS is it is supplied by apple so no tweaks by your carrier that delay or make it unstable. i suspect the iphone 5 will have the same size screen, the various screen sizes is one thing that can break programs on android/winmo. that is why ipad has an iphone display mode

solid. thanks for that. . .

the iphone ips screen and the amoled samsung screen are visibly identical but for the size difference. i think the full 1" difference is significant in a real world sense. i understand what you're saying about the fact that they have stuck with the 3.5" size from the beginning, but is it really that difficult to have their ios handle a change in display?

its not the os that has the issue, it is the applications. it's not such a big deal for apps which just display text on the screen but when you're working with say something like a game and you design the game for a certain screen size and it won't display properly on some of the odd sized screens out there. i've seen screens that were tiny for android and some that are almost tablets. the same screen size makes it so programs work with no fiddling, part of the "it just works" mantra.

How to use the Reminder App on iOS 5, very useful.
Hope this will help a few people understand to use this amazing app.
Creating a new list is the key here.

got this elsewhere;
"Here's something handy I discovered about the Reminders app. I used it for the first time to do a shopping list for the supermarket. I made a new list within the Reminders app on my iPad, which through the power of the cloud, ends up on my iphone for easy reference at Tesco. As I checked off the items on the shopping list, they went in to the completed list. This is the cool bit...when you uncheck them from the completed list, they go back on the shopping list ( not the generic Reminders list), meaning that with time you can build up a comprehensive list of all the stuff you buy, and only need to type the name of the item in once, then simply check and uncheck as required to keep a current shopping list on the go."

Following on from that, it occurred to me that a variation of this is a great way of keeping an ingredients list for a particular meal all in one place, all ready to be added to the main shopping list when you want to prepare that meal. Eg, I was making a pudding yesterday that required 5 different ingredients. I made one singe entry in the shopping reminder list with all those ingredients, and the name of the pudding. In the future, when I want to make this again, I only need to either search for it in the Completed list, or easier still, if the list is long, use the ipad's search function to find my 'Marshmallow Surprise' ingredients entry in the list. Uncheck it, and all the ingredients will appear in my current shopping list.

basically in list view, you can add a grocery list, and keeping adding single entries like milk, eggs, cereal, etc.

For those of us with Mac's, reminders show up in your iCal(calendar), where you can add/delete/check/uncheck/edit reminders....create a reminder list, etc.
So basically your reminders show up when alerted on your Mac's screen too(via iCloud).

Cool.

works with outlook too.

Reminders for managing to do lists
  • Syncs with iCloud, iCal and Outlook
  • Location-based reminders when you leave or arrive at a location for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4

Re: screen size

Im not convinced that Apple will increase it much if at all.

To me the current size is excellent. A normal size hand will reach the whole area of the screen with one thumb and that to me is most important for usability. I've used the bigger Android handsets and they're cumbersome. You have to readjust your hand to reach the top corners and that's just plain annoying.

Even RIM is jumping on the bigger screen bandwagon with an image of a possibly upcoming BBX powered phone :

That looks like the Droid Razr with a BB logo tagged onto it.

Looks like they hacked up an iMac with the metal on black look.

Not sure if I like the angles of the phone, but would be curious to see a new OS for the blackberry. Not a fan of the current UI they have.

If that's really the design direction they're considering, RIM really is doomed. Those look like 80s throwbacks or something...

I wouldn't, but design is a subjective thing. It just looks dated to me with those trapezoidal shapes on the top and botton. RIM has made some sleek and luxurious looking devices in the past, this new direction is kinda weird.

I wonder how many worldwide mobile subscribers actually have access to 4G networks? I heard around 10 million so far.... out of about 5 billion mobile users. If that's true then LOL. 4G comes at a pretty hefty price, both in development/implementation and in processor/battery utilization. I remember when the iPhone4 came out and the pundits were crying about it not being 4G

This got me curious so I did a speedtest on my 4S 3G...680Kb/sec. So about 12 minutes to blow through my entire monthly download limit  how much more mobile porn can a person need, to want 4G?

Mac OSX on a windows 8 tablet, what a wreck, but still awesome.
My OSX loads in about 7-9 secs, that one took really long, and its i5.
