Why Android is better than iPhone.

And as recently as a few months ago you still didn't believe RIM was tanking

SWIM BOY, SWWWIIIIIM!!!!

Here's another reason why Android fragmentation is a real thing and it sucks for Android users:

You just bought a shiny expensive Galaxy S II and you can't even get Google's latest OS on it without a group of hackers porting the bloody thing first! That's ridiculous. 'Ice Cream Sandwich' was released over a month ago yet most Android users won't get to experience it for a long time, if ever. Gay to the max.

Actually ICS has not been release yet at all.
The first phone with ICS is Galaxy Nexus and it's just coming out now. ICS source code went public on Wednesday. Samsung also officially announced that ICS is coming to SGS2 sometime in early 2012. That's not an unreasonable deadline considering they have to port their UI and other custom stuff to ICS first and test it all. Sure CM guys will have ICS running on SGS2 sooner, but soon enough it will be official.

Check your facts dude! ICS is only going to be released when the nexus comes out and will be the first phone actually loaded with it! Over the next few months all the other android devices capable of supporting it, will get it! Its a Marketing ploy for Google to buy the new Nexus and you know what,, it will work cuz that OS is amazing!

Nexus was released in Europe already I believe, and maybe other parts of the world too?

Regardless, the point remains: as an Android owner you have to wait for your manufacturer to roll out updates. Ask any Sony X10 user what they think of that scheme... or even HTC owners. Some wait for months, others don't get an update ever. Sony X10 users waited like 1.5 YEARS to get an update on their OS.

Thats the trouble with licencing. Google doesn't seem to give much of a damn what manufacturers of handsets do with their OS after they've licenced it. With Apple you get the new iOS on whatever device you have (unless your phone is already like 3 generations behind but that's understandable).

Oh gee thanks Google, I have to wait for months to get an update unless I fork over money for a new phone? Grrreeat... and people say Apple are nazis? Hilarious.

well, my wife WAS enjoying her iphone, until two hours ago, when the battery gave out. . .my phone's still going, with 37% battery to go, and already 12 hours of uptime, as compared with her iphone tapping out at under 10 hours

try turning off a few notifications that is not needed, brightness can play a huge part in battery life, also my mail is set to push every hour, and video can kill battery a lot faster. A few other things to check, to satisfy battery life, would be good if the owner looks into it.

are you on iOS 5?

Sounds like you conducted a thorough and scientific test!

no, not claiming i did. . .just anecdotal, like everybody else in this thread

i don't know, i'll have to check her settings tomorrow. thanks for the tips. she's getting frustrated that her phone is not lasting much more than the work day. . .

Is it iOS 5, a tip if it is too.

Is it iOS 5, a tip if it is too.

ver 4.3.5

i believe it is now at 5.0.1, no?

is it a big improvement over ver 4.3.5?

what's the tip?

edit: so apparently 5.0.1 fixes the battery drain issue of 5.0, is this what people are actually finding in real life?

my wife is already complaining about battery life, i don't want her to update from 4.3.5 and have it get worse. . .

That makes no sense. What you're describing is fetch not push. Push is realtime.

you are correct, i should have mentioned turn push off, and it is fetch, which i prefer...unless i need push, which i can enable again.

ver 4.3.5 you should get iOS 5 asap, your wife will love you even more!!!

i believe it is now at 5.0.1, no? it is 5.0.1 right now, next week will be 5.0.2

is it a big improvement over ver 4.3.5? guaranteed

what's the tip? if it was iOS 5, go to location services/system services and turn off setting time zone.

edit: so apparently 5.0.1 fixes the battery drain issue of 5.0, is this what people are actually finding in real life? kinda seems like only the iP4S is having battery issues, and 5.0.1 didn't fix it entirely, thats why 5.0.2 is coming next week.

my wife is already complaining about battery life, i don't want her to update from 4.3.5 and have it get worse. . . i am using 5.0 on an iphone 4, and i am not having battery issues at all.

For the record, iOS 4 is 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.5 etc......iOS 5 is 5.0.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2, 5.1 etc...until it changes again.
so when i said iOS 5, it could simply had meant iOS 5 +.

If i am at work where the cell signal is weak battery drains really fast, how ever i just leave it plugged into my computer because i can't talk on it at my desk anyways.at home i can leave it sitting on the counter and it will drop a percentage point or two overnight.
good points. unfortunately, my wife cannot charge her phone with her computer at work--she's constantly on the move and needs it with her.

good tips, cheers.currently, she plugs it in overnight and leaves it to charge. . .not sure if it is better to charge as soon as she gets home and then unplug it until the morning?

I tend to leave it plugged in all the time. cell phones use lithium ion (or lithium-poly) batteries and those do not respond well to deep cycle charging so I tend to plug in those sorts of electronics (notebooks too) so that the battery stays charged. once it's charged it shuts off the charger and only powers the phone from the external source. this is true for all devices that use lithium rechargeable technology (www.batteryuniversity.com), so my batteries for previous cell phones have lasted longer over the period i've had them because i've been nice to the battery.

cheers for that.yeah, that's what i know for most of my other devices, but i never know with apple products.currently comparing both phones side by side, and my galaxy s2x is a clear winner for me. admittedly, the iphone4 is not noticably slower than my phone, but imho, the galaxy is slimmer, lighter, beautiful form factor, very obviously larger screen (something my wife is already lamenting, as we are at the age where we need bi-focals), and hellishly powerful.i predict that the iphone5 will be at least a 4" screen if not 4.5", and hopefully with gorilla glass.we're out for the day, but i will update her phone to ios 5.0.1 through itunes tonightis the version of ios update at all dependent on carrier? we're on telus
