Here's another reason why Android fragmentation is a real thing and it sucks for Android users:

You just bought a shiny expensive Galaxy S II and you can't even get Google's latest OS on it without a group of hackers porting the bloody thing first! That's ridiculous. 'Ice Cream Sandwich' was released over a month ago yet most Android users won't get to experience it for a long time, if ever. Gay to the max.
finally dumped the blackberry
am in the process of loading apps onto my brand spanking new s2x
just loving it
wife is enjoying her iphone4. . .perfect for her
well, my wife WAS enjoying her iphone, until two hours ago, when the battery gave out. . .my phone's still going, with 37% battery to go, and already 12 hours of uptime, as compared with her iphone tapping out at under 10 hours
Sounds like you conducted a thorough and scientific test!
try turning off a few notifications that is not needed, brightness can play a huge part in battery life, also my mail is set to push every hour, and video can kill battery a lot faster. A few other things to check, to satisfy battery life, would be good if the owner looks into it.
are you on iOS 5?
i don't know, i'll have to check her settings tomorrow. thanks for the tips. she's getting frustrated that her phone is not lasting much more than the work day. . .
Is it iOS 5, a tip if it is too.
also my mail is set to push every hour,
That makes no sense. What you're describing is fetch not push. Push is realtime.
ver 4.3.5 you should get iOS 5 asap, your wife will love you even more!!!
i believe it is now at 5.0.1, no? it is 5.0.1 right now, next week will be 5.0.2
is it a big improvement over ver 4.3.5? guaranteed
what's the tip? if it was iOS 5, go to location services/system services and turn off setting time zone.
edit: so apparently 5.0.1 fixes the battery drain issue of 5.0, is this what people are actually finding in real life? kinda seems like only the iP4S is having battery issues, and 5.0.1 didn't fix it entirely, thats why 5.0.2 is coming next week.
my wife is already complaining about battery life, i don't want her to update from 4.3.5 and have it get worse. . . i am using 5.0 on an iphone 4, and i am not having battery issues at all.
good points. unfortunately, my wife cannot charge her phone with her computer at work--she's constantly on the move and needs it with her.If i am at work where the cell signal is weak battery drains really fast, how ever i just leave it plugged into my computer because i can't talk on it at my desk anyways.at home i can leave it sitting on the counter and it will drop a percentage point or two overnight.
good tips, cheers.currently, she plugs it in overnight and leaves it to charge. . .not sure if it is better to charge as soon as she gets home and then unplug it until the morning? For the record, iOS 4 is 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.5 etc......iOS 5 is 5.0.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2, 5.1 etc...until it changes again.so when i said iOS 5, it could simply had meant iOS 5 +.

cheers for that.yeah, that's what i know for most of my other devices, but i never know with apple products.currently comparing both phones side by side, and my galaxy s2x is a clear winner for me. admittedly, the iphone4 is not noticably slower than my phone, but imho, the galaxy is slimmer, lighter, beautiful form factor, very obviously larger screen (something my wife is already lamenting, as we are at the age where we need bi-focals), and hellishly powerful.i predict that the iphone5 will be at least a 4" screen if not 4.5", and hopefully with gorilla glass.we're out for the day, but i will update her phone to ios 5.0.1 through itunes tonightis the version of ios update at all dependent on carrier? we're on telusI tend to leave it plugged in all the time. cell phones use lithium ion (or lithium-poly) batteries and those do not respond well to deep cycle charging so I tend to plug in those sorts of electronics (notebooks too) so that the battery stays charged. once it's charged it shuts off the charger and only powers the phone from the external source. this is true for all devices that use lithium rechargeable technology (www.batteryuniversity.com), so my batteries for previous cell phones have lasted longer over the period i've had them because i've been nice to the battery.
