Why Android is better than iPhone.

How does it compare in the "I want to take weeks trying to figure out how to do whatever I want and install questionable kernels, nodes, roots and customized OSes on my phone and not be tied down by a half million seamlessly functional apps when I could install whatever junk some stranger thinks is 'good enough' for me, as if he is running a software fascist dictatorship" test?

Ask this guy;

You are missing a lot...I dunno what else to tell you.

Nope...not missing anything. Google Voice, Google Talk etc...all work fine, don't have to bother with itunes, browse whatever web pages I like and can install any aps I like regardless of whether they have been vetted by some corporation.

Just to put this in perspective...I get expenses that allow me to buy more or less whatever I want tech-wise. Apple products look nice, very pretty and all that. I just don't want to be restricted in any way when I have a tech gadget such as a phone and itunes really pisses me off.

Nope...still not seeing it....my OTA updates work smoothly...all is good, there was no need for me to root an already totally unlocked phone. Slipping a US SIM in was easy peasy...the thing just worked. Also seems a few aps on android market are free as opposed to the same aps costing moolah for the iphone. :)

Sorry guys but the level of customisation I have and the freedom to do whatever I want without some fruit logoed fascist telling me what I can and can't do is worth a little more to me than having something that is slightly more fashionable but with hobbled functionality.

why does it piss you off?

.

who makes these free apps, rich people?

not every app can be free, developers use their time, knowledge and brains to create these apps, and to make a living....it cost moolah, but developers are getting paid.

Probably more ad based revenue with the Android apps.

You are right, they need to make money, there is no way its just a MASSIVE amount of hobbyist app developers. Advertising makes money, seems to do well for Google.

Wait a minute, what does personal opinion have to do with it? As both camps will tell you there's only one phone that's perfect for everybody, and it's either Android or iOS. Stop complicating things with matters of personal choice and preference.

Google Voice and Talk just dont do what Siri does, I dont know how else to put it to you. They are just not on the same level. You dont have iMessage, you dont have Newstand, you dont have Airplay (mirroring) you dont have 720p video, you dont have SIM ToolKIt etc. I mean it was all there in black and white.

1080p

Lol...1080p video on a mobile device? I don't care, 720p is fine for both regular TV and a small screen. I don't use my phone for videos. Listen, I'd buy an Apple product in a heartbeat if it wasn't for having to go through the Apple store for everything and being tied to itunes.

I have free N.A calling with Google talk, total Gmail and Google calendar integration with Outlook and all my other e-mail acounts, seamless wireless network switching between all the networks I use at work, google documents compatibility built in to view and manipulate and share (cloud!) my office documents and I have all the best apps that the Apple store has too. I see no need for an iphone whatsoever for me. All the pros are probably the same as an Apple phone but without any of the cons.

I always laugh when I read statements like this. It pretty much proves the author hasn't got a clue about the 3rd party software/development community for Apple's products, and hasn't got a clue what he's talking about.

FYI, both The Apple store and iTunes are easily circumvented. Try using Google. I believe there's an app for it on your phone, no?

I always laugh when people have to circumvent things that I don't.

you see the thing is, 1080p is better than 720p, and if someone can pull a small device out of their pocket and record in 1080p(thats good), and when they reach home and can airplay wirelessly that video thru an apple tv on their LCD/LED 1080p TV, that is awesomeness. I was once ok with 720p, but when i view a 720p youtube video on my TV, i wish if it was 1080P.....so 1080P is whats up, glad it's available now, and on a small pocket device.

Could you explain your main concerns on this, i just don't understand when people say this(and i am serious)....maybe i can help with this.

I have free N.A calling with Google talk.... Why is this special? and will the free-ness expire soon?

total Gmail and Google calendar integration with Outlook and all my other e-mail accounts... i have this on my idevices.

seamless wireless network switching between all the networks I use at work... not sure what you mean exactly, explain this?

google documents compatibility built in to view and manipulate and share (cloud!) my office documents....

and I have all the best apps that the Apple store has too....i am not an app person as of lately, i just prefer functionality/settings.

I see no need for an iphone whatsoever for me....i don't blame you....i never had an android device, tested 1 or 2 at best buy and didn't see the needs, but then again...its probably just regular and i don't know what i am missing by rooting it and it being customized. Also the same thing with iphone, you prob test the ones in the store and meh....but you gotta test out a jailbroken iphone, the amount of stuff mine can do, would prob surprise you.

All the pros are probably the same as an Apple phone but without any of the cons....what is the cons?

I'm adding this video, i never watched a video of jailbreaking iOS before, i just jailbroke it, and did my own thing(my jailbreak does way more than what you are about to see)... so i had to look for one to add here, in the video, this dude is complaining about stuff not compatible, which i am going to say is compatible now, they just needed updating, which wasn't available at time of the video.

ITT: jc100 continually proves just how little he knows about iPhone

I get what all you lot are saying but the thing is..I don't have to jailbreak anything or root anything or circumvent anything to get all these amazing features you're harping on about with the phone I currently have. I'm not sure you understand that if I could get an iphone and just do whatever I want to do with it out the box I'd get one. The fact that I can't is why I don't have one. I get a tech allowance of several K every year to spend on whatever I want....I badly wanted to get some Apple products as they certainly have a better design and form factor but so far I've found alternative products that better fit with what I want. I'm looking for a tablet right now...the iPad really looks good but it won't quite do what I want so I'm looking at Android tablets that will...unless another OS offers something up.
