Why Android is better than iPhone.

nokia dropping their software to go with windows.. didn't we see palm do this a few years back? where's palm now? yeah...
Lisa, Palm abandon their PalmOS to go with their own in home build from scratch WEBOS, not the same situation. The issue with Palm was crappy marketing and crappy hardware, but now with HP's support behind that has all changed.

Just my personal opinion but the WP7 OS is ugly as hell but a matter of opinion I guess

palm abandoned palm and went with windows mobile on the treo before going to webos, now palm is a department of HP (which also has winmobile devices under it's compaq line)

Yea but they didn't do it as a strategy, they did it because they had no other choice while they builded WEBOS.

"Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is currently on stage at MWC in Barcelona, and he's had a few choice things to say about the recent announcement that Nokia will partner with Microsoft to create devices which run Windows Phone software. Elop told the crowd assembled there that Nokia's "first priority is beating Android," and he also took a moment to let everyone know that Nokia is not interested in being the only company producing Windows Phones -- countering some recent exclusivity chatter."

Have you tried using the OS? Ugly was also my original thought, but once using the OS its pretty damn good... Heres how I rate mobile OS: #1: iOS #2: WebOS #3: WP7 #4: Android #5: Symbian

" At the close of trading today Apple managed to reach a market cap of $330.90 billion, a full $100 billion more than the nearest technology company, Microsoft, which is at $228.8 billion. This is despite Apple only passing Microsoft in market cap less then nine months ago, since then Microsoft has only gained $1 billion. "

It wants 30% of all sales generated through its platform, and it alone will have customers' names and contact information unless buyers opt in to share that data with content creators.

The caveat though is that Apple will require a 30% revenue cut for in-app subscriptions and sign-ups.
Workarounds aren't allowed, either; if a publisher offers a digital subscription outside of its iOS app, it must offer the same subscription offer at the same price or less to customers who wish to subscribe within the apps. Developers also are no longer allowed to provide links that prompt customers to purchase content outside of the app.

I whole heartedly agree with both these rules. The Publishers are ****** they can't gauge customers and take their personal data without their to consent.

"Apple Is Fortune’s “Most-Admired” Company, Again

Screen-shot-2011-03-03-at-5.24.48-PM.png

Remember last year when we reported Apple was Fortune’s “Most-Admired” company? Well, it has happened again. For the fourth year in a row (doesn’t come as a surprise since the introduction of the iPhone in 2007), Fortune has declared the Cupertino company is the most-admired among other tech companies with an average score of 8.16. Fortune’s list includes other 50 companies, most of them based in the Silicon Valley.

Apple took a stock hit when iconic CEO Steve Jobs announced in January that he’d be taking a second medical leave, two years after receiving a liver transplant during a six-month sabbatical. But Jobs assured the market in the company’s recent earnings report that Apple was still “firing on all cylinders.”

It certainly appears to be. Apple nearly doubled its quarterly profits vs. a year ago. The iPad 2 was introduced in March, marking the second generation of one of Apple’s milestone product successes. And Jobs made a surprise appearance at the launch.

And just like last year, I would say one of Apple’s biggest advantages over its competitors in the mobile space is the App Store. Over 350,000 apps available for the iPhone, 65,000 for the iPad. On top of that, an iPad 2 coming next week and the iPhone 5 (which should be a complete redesign) in a few months. Plus, new computers, cloud services and the continuos expansion of retail stores. 2011 is shaping up to be a good year for Apple."

"BlackBerry Messenger Coming to iOS?

sda.jpeg

BGR reports sources close to RIM have told them the company is working on a port of the popular BlackBerry Messenger communication service for Android and iOS devices. While the Android version seems to be coming soon, not so many details have been provided regarding BBM for iOS –no release date or whether the app could be available only for iPhone owners.

Boy Genius Report, however, says RIM has been looking for a way to extend its platform’s capabilities to other mobile operating systems, which have seen the rise of similar services like WhatsApp and Kik recently. BlackBerry Messenger for non-BlackBerry devices might be a stripped down version of the original software with only a few features such as contacts lists and chat. Location, photo and video sharing might remain exclusive to BlackBerry owners as an advantage over iOS and Android counterparts.

Right now, we have heard that Android is definitely a go. But again, we’re not sure on timing, though our sources are confident that it will launch some time this year. RIM chose Android first because of the fact that it could develop and integrate something like this much easier with an open platform, but the plan is to build and deploy an iOS version at some point as well.

There is no secret the App Store is full of applications that allow users to communicate and share media in real time, for free. If BlackBerry is really planning on bringing its vision to other platforms and, perhaps, tablets, then we’re definitely looking forward to that. Maybe in the future iPad 2 owners will be able to communicate with PlayBook users."

i got this app beluga about 2 months ago, and seen a lot of potential, especially the group messaging(kinda like bbm, pingchat),... when it comessss to bike meets, this way i don't have to text everyone individually, just create a group and go. Well Facebook seen that too,.....although i used pingchat last season to cross platform chat(iphone, bb, android), it only accepted 13-14 ppl in one chat, i think bbm does 30 ppl, not sure how many beluga does(forgot), one hundred or more would be nice,....i knowssss a lot of ppl with different devices, and if BBM does come to android and iphone, it better up that 30 limit, or it would be useless to me.

"Facebook acquires mobile messaging provider Beluga

Facebook's latest acquisition is an effort to improve its messaging system, as the social networking site works to improve its own message service.

Beluga is the developer of a mobile chat system in which users can send messages in a group rather than just between individual people.

Users create various groups of friends, and can send a message to an entire group. Anyone in that group can then also reply to the entire group. Basically, it's like a chat room but with text messages.

Beluga's service just opened in December, but caught Facebook's attention right away.

"We’re psyched to confirm that we’ve just acquired the talent and assets of Beluga, whose simple and elegant mobile apps blew us away as a solution to help groups of friends stay in touch on the move. We’re looking forward to welcoming co-founders Ben Davenport, Lucy Zhang and Jonathan Perlow, and we’re excited that the team will continue their vision for groups and mobile communication as part of Facebook," said Facebook in a statement.

It's the latest in a string of acquisitions from the social networker, and continues the company's tradition of buying small start-ups that it sees with huge potential.

Perhaps the one area where Facebook needs the most improvement is in its messaging service, especially if users want to organize their messages or talk with multiple people at the same time. This acquisition will go toward working on that.

Beluga's current service will continue to operate as normal, at least for now."

watch out now!!!!!!!!

Google pulls 21 popular apps in malware alert

Google has kicked 21 apps out of the Android Market for being stuffed full with malware.

Apps released by developers using the names 'Myournet', 'Kingmall2010' and 'we20090202' were riddled with malware, including the rageagainstthecage root exploit. They've been harvesting data including product ID, model, partner, language, country, and userID.

Even more worryingly, the apps also add a backdoor allowing them to download more code in future, without the owner's knowledge - giving them almost unlimited possibilities. Phones running Android 2.2.2 and above appear to have been immune.

Some of the apps are pirated versions of genuine apps. They include Super Guitar Solo, Photo Editor and, um, Screaming Sexy Japanese Girls. Another, ironically, is App Installer.

Between them, they appear to have clocked up somewhere between 50,000 and 200,000 downloads over a four-day period.

Following a tip-off, the rogue apps were reported by Android Police, which says that Google pulled them from the store within five minutes of being alerted.

Google's also erasing them remotely from users' devices using the Android kill-switch feature - although this will do nothing to eliminate any code that the app has already downloaded.

I have always been a winmo person. I've had my new Nokia N8 for 2 weeks, and by far it's the best phone ever. Symbian is awesome, the phone features are better then anything on the market. I know they say Symbian has a big learning curve, but I have found it extremely easy to learn, and the best thing is I don't have to jail break it, I can install anything I want. Did I mention the N8 is the best phone ever?
