Why Android is better than iPhone.

HTC One was announced this morning. Machined aluminum body and excellent attention to detail, this is one Android phone done right! Also like that they made the daring move of equipping it with "only" a 4MP camera.

HTC will get slaughtered in a couple of weeks by the Samsung G4 release.

I'm sure it will, Samsung spends an obscene amount of money on marketing compared to everyone else. Definitely an uphill battle for HTC to even get a little bit of the Android pie. Doesn't take away from the fact that HTC has come out with an incredibly appealing product.

If the SIV continues Samsung's design language of bland design and cheap plastic, I know which phone I would rather have.

When Google makes their own phone, which they are working on with top shelf specs, all the other Android makers will be left in the dust, and will be left with watered down or modified Android versions. What good is that?

Google is taking Android back.

When and if that happens, we'll have to see what they bring to the table. At the moment, they're selling the Nexus 4. An excellent phone for the price, but it's not a high end phone. I can't wait for Google to bring out a properly high end phone with stock Android software.

Right now, there isn't a single Android phone that I would actually want to buy, except maybe the HTC One. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that.

The specs overall look good. I'm a bit disappointed that it's still a sealed battery and no expandable memory with a SD card.

The only Android phone I would buy "today", is the new Sony Xperia Z. Not the lousy ZL, the proper Z model.

Anyways, Google X phone. when Google releases their own real phone, not the LG Nexus 4 garbage, but rather their legitimate inhouse effort borne from their efforts of acquiring Motorola, we will see a different Android than we see today, and all the other manufacturers will get sub par or modified versions of Android. What good is that?

"The X Phone is said to have been in development for a long time and will offer “software features and capabilities that are not available on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or Apple iPhone.” The software will reportedly be very powerful and capable of pulling together Google services “like no other manufacturer has done in the past.”

Almost every new phone is moving towards this. As they strive to make thinner and thinner phones, removable batteries and memory are getting the cut.

Never did understand why people would want removable batteries when you can get something like a Mophie Juicepack. Memory is becoming less and less useful too as more things are hosted in the cloud and retrieved quickly through LTE.

We'll see what they come up with when they release it. At this point it's strictly rumour.

Batteries lose "health" over time the more you discharge and recharge them. Buying a replacement battery is cheap. Plus for someone like me who mods/roots my phones, being able to remove the battery to cure a frozen phone has been a lifesaver multiple times. The SD card also makes things easier in this process not too mention the fact that you need a data connection to access the cloud. Roaming data ain't cheap.

You are right, but these are things the average consumer doesn't care about. They (myself included) would much rather a slimmer, more solid phone, than one with the above two features.

Also batteries are infinitely better than they were even four or five years ago. The last few iPhones I've owned have showed no discernable difference in battery life after a year of use, charging it every night. Apple boasts that it's batteries hold 80% of their capacity after 1000 cycles, I'm sure most manufacturers are using similar batteries.

Yeah I dig the phones Sony make, There interface is nice and easy with no cartoon like themes or buttons like other interfaces have...I had the Xperia Arc before and now Im looking into getting the new flagship phone Xperia T ...

Havent heard much about the Z, what does that retail at?

No release dates or MSRP announced for North America yet. Only official release date is Feb 28 for the UK.

I agree, HTC is appealing to the masses. I was sharing my personal thoughts on first glance at the specs. One of the reasons I like the Android platform is because it's open source and thus, there are hundreds of customized ROMs for it. Being able to customize my phones to fit more of my personal needs and tastes makes the experience 10 times better. I don't think I can ever go back to using a stock ROM that's been made to appeal to as many average consumers as it can.

Batteries are better now but still not infallible. For me personally, I'd still like the option to buy a cheap replacement battery at 100% than be stuck with a battery at 80%. The S3 has a removable battery and is only 1mm thicker than the iPhone 5.

Batteries are perfectly replaceable if you're not happy with 80% capacity, at least with the iPhone. It's just not something you'd want to do as a strategy to extend the usage every day. If that's what people need then battery cases do the job nicely.

Battery cases expand the S I Z E and produce extra heat, which results into auto shut-off due to going beyond the operating temps. But then I may be in the mid-east just a little too often lol
