Why Android is better than iPhone.

CM10 is not that good because it's just a rough base for other to build from.
Look for the better builds that are more refined for your phone and you will be much happier.
Look for an AOKP if not that then the AOSP build for your phone.
AOKP is bonkers.

Pretty sure there's an AOKP build for my phone, will have to give it a try since tethering isn't working at all on my CM10 (for me at least). Really don't want to screw around with this crap though, I just want a phone that works well

The charger port is on the left side of the phone, so if you have the cable plugged in and try to talk on it, the cable gets in the way and tries to make you drop the phone. The volume rocker is exactly where my palm ends up when my hand moves around maneuvering the screen, sending the ringer to silent.

Couldn't you just switch hands?

Couldn't you just switch hands?

I was thinking more handsfree holding between my ear and shoulder. Even holding it by hand it gets in the way. Makes you understand the advantage of putting it dead centre at the bottom

False- JB is very smooth and has a lot of features.
False- We have the ability to use several other launchers for better customization and added functionality .
Design - that is up to the beholder. The Iphone looks nice but so does an S2 and S3. The S3 mini looks nice also. I tend to favor function over form.
Warranty - You can pay $25 or so to have instant replacement (24 hours for some carriers) for the life of your contract if not you get a loaner phone while yours is repaired.

Look, most apple customers buy it to make them FEEL better and FEEL more important and FEEL cool because that is what the marketing has done.
We both know that you can take a lesser product and spend lots of money on marketing to make it sell e.g. Budweiser beer.

Please list features now.
S3 - larger screen (granted not for everyone) but there is an S3 mini 4 inch screen
S3 - more pixels, higher resolution. It is a REAL HD resolution.
S3 - better cameras
S3 - NFC - not a big thing for most but still a nice option
S3- OPEN source
S3- Better SOUND chip
S3- FASTER
S3- replaceable battery
S3- micro sd slot to add more memory
S3- working MAPS :) Google maps will always be better. They have the money for it and is part of their business revenue
S3- easy to unlock and work with just about all carriers
S3 - has a large global community offering different flavors i.e. AOKP AOSP STOCK
S3- flash the modem/radio in less than 1 minute for the country you are in or going to for better reception and or lower batter consumption
S3- Voodo Video and Voodo Sound, let's you control the colors of your phone and sound quality
S3- integration with Google Mail and Chrome - it just keeps getting better *Chrome was the number downloaded app in the Apple store a few months ago. Why are Apple users picking Google Chrome?
S3- standard micro usb plug
S3- can be used on ANY laptop/desktop as a external USB hard drive
S3 - FULL bluetooth functionality
S3- does not require any software to allow you to access and work your phone vs. iphone that requires the user to install itunes to access and work the phone
S3- flip the phone over to send calls to voicemail or turn off alarms
S3- No intrusion of your privacy of the hardware maker such as itunes making you register your phone and also scans it every time you connect
S3- MANY types of keyboards options such as Swype, Swift, Better Keyboard (similar to Apple keyboard) and Thumb Keyboard.
S3- and other Android phones can plug into the USB port on tablets (with them) allowing them to charge and also connect to each other to exchange files
S3 - Airdroid -Android software for all phones connect and manage your phone directly from any web browser e.g. just start the app on your phone and type into your pc or tablet the ip address into the browser and you now can manage all of your phones functions such as sms/emails/music/videos/ebooks/photos etc...
S3- Wifi direct
S3 - Samsung's Allstream app which lets you transmit what you are watching on your phone to your tv or pc and vice versa play videos from your pc or nas on your phone.
S3- Androids using non stock ROM- overclock or under volt the CPU and GPU for greater speed or better battery life
S3- " "- ability to run your phone in 2G mode for better battery life or if you do not have a data plan.
S3- DUAL BOOT - I can have 2 versions of Android to choose on boot meaning I can have a stable version of let's say ICS and have another of Jb or the next release. Maybe I have one system setup for entertainment and gaming and the other my everyday. You have options.

Your turn.

OK let me try a different approach

iP5- Newer....it is nice
iP5- American company....awesome company yes, amazing products
iP5- Thinner.....other phones are thin too, we shouldn't debate this no more
iP5- Narrower.....i don't get it
iP5- Shorter.....i prefer bigger(big hand here), they should have choices(like S3 mini)
iP5- Lighter.....that was a bonus
iP5- No plastic...what makes the product enticing to me
iP5- Better low-light camera......agree there, but i am not gonna choose a phone because of a camera(IMO).
iP5- Tighter manufacturing tolerances.....its all good to know
iP5- More attractive......it is
iP5- More impact-resistant.....i see that
iP5- Higher pixel density.......amazing, but how much do we really need to enjoy anyways
iP5- More rugged connector......kinda cool, but all devices should be the same, i am not mad with them though
iP5- Easier to use....it is, good for the young, but most things have a learning curve, adults need to stop with the spoon fed
iP5- Always gets latest updates.....true, android needs to step their game up
iP5- Better retail experience....awesome, can't be beat
iP5- Better after-sales support......no doubt
iP5- Works with iTunes.....wish if consumers had a choice, since most hate it, might happen soon..i would like to use iTunes and USB transfer together
iP5- Greater selection of apps.....I have to say that Android play store is equivalent(trust me)
iP5- Apps screened for malware.....good for Apple
iP5- Siri.....Google Now is a major threat, same options
iP5- 3D maps....i like it
iP5- iMessage......Alternatives that do cross platform should really be looked at, Hookt, Whatsapp
iP5- Internal 64GB available......External Sd cards should really be introduced, its what the people want..i see it happening
iP5- Brighter display......Equal
iP5- More accurate colour gamut.....super hard for a lot to notice, even myself
iP5- Faster......i don't care, how fast is fast
iP5- Better battery life.....not sure, maybe equal
iP5- Better resale value......somewhat
iP5- Pisses off geeks......who??? why???

There, that's one more advantage than you posted, does that make it the best phone?

All what you mentioned above, i inserted my take on it.....and none of those factors, would justify me in staying, when there is so much more to pretty looks.
iPhone win with a lot of those, but the software let it down for me(got boring). I care about the options Android software provided.
The other thing is, i do like the look and feel of the Samsung Galaxy S3.

I had the iPhone, and i loved it.... I decided to switch, because i wanted the challenge, and something different..... and because i loved a jailbroken device, it is getting tougher on iOS hackers to deliver, since iPhone 5 is not jailbroken yet(publicly)it is though, just can't be released, and i definitely couldn't wait and needed an upgrade.

The only thing that i am worried about with Android, is the malware that would be associated with it. Everything else on your list, does not matter at this point for me. When i used a jailbroken iOS device(i still do for iPad), it felt superior, but Android on a custom ROM is like WHOA!!!!....iOS jailbroken is not allowed to be on the same stage with it.

Custom ROM's
These guys work together over here, i guess that is why it's better....With iOS jailbreak, you gotta go get tweaks to enhance your Device. Android Custom ROM's, these guys add it to their ROM's, you simply enable/disable it.

There is lots more to add, but too much to list.

Basically what I said, if you want to be able to change anything and everything on your phone, Android is by far the way to go. The large majority of users don't bother with a jailbreak or rooting their phone, they just want something that works well for the typical user's mundane tasks. iPhone's and Android's both work, and each has realistic pros and cons (being able to overclock your phone is far from being one of them)

One huge things I do miss being on Android, aside from Apple's excellent hardware design and build, is iMessage/Facetime. Best part about it is it's transparent and almost every single iOS user has it. If the large majority of your friends (almost everyone in my case) uses iPhones, you do miss it.

My list is a running total for all types of people not just what you like.
You listed things that are not technical in nature e.g. better buying experience.
Seriously, hand holding for a phone.

It all comes down to "2 different mentalities for different types of people"

In my mind though, Android might suit the less AND more technically inclined easier than iPhones therefore reaching more peoepl

@regder: BTW, the problem you are having with your OneX MIIIIGHT be linked to your custom ROM, as depending on the voltage and clocking of that rom (in the kernel that comes with it) it might have a setting that makes it overheat...
your battery well... of course iphone and oneX batteries arent equals ;) you gotta keep in mind that some apps run in the background and might take up some battery. check your battery in the settings to see (other than the display) what chugs the most battery juice :) enjoy

@regder I meant to ask you can you return your phone and get the Samsung S2 or S3 or the S3 mini.
As I mentioned I am sure there is a much better ROM for your unit instead of the CM10.

You will now see what I meant by flashing the modem. Some modems/radios use less power therefore saving your battery. You now have the ability to pick the best modem/radio band for your area.

*modem/radio is the device used to connect to your cell tower much like the wifi card in your computer connects to your home router.

You mean all the things you listed would be enjoyed by everybody? They're like universal truths of cell phone design and operation?

Wow, I must be such a loser not to care about the things you tell me to care about :(

The problem with your all types of people is that there are very few out there. Google has made a good OS, those esoteric "features" are mostly only good for some geek who wonders if he can do xyz (probably how the feature got added anyways).

I've switched to AOKP which seems to be nicer on the battery, I'll find out tomorrow. Looks like it switches to 3G from LTE when I'm not actively using data. Now that I've switched, another problem has come up. I can't reprogram the capacitive button functions like I could in CM10, and the stock arrangement I really don't like. Still has the same disconnect between my finger and the screen as CM10, sorry Android guys, Apple is significantly better here.

@regder I meant to ask you can you return your phone and get the Samsung S2 or S3 or the S3 mini.

I picked up the phone off a buddy so can't return it. Reason I got the One X over the S3 is the unibody design. Might still sell it and try out an S3

It sounds like your phone (hardware) has the issue for you.
The S3 is WAY better on so many fronts for modding.
It takes 2-3 steps for a stock Samsung S3 to go to a fully new AOKP JB ROM/

I think you need to find a proper ROM for your phone.
Your phone might just be a North American unit therefore less support.
I thought the 1X was a powerful phone.

Make sure you are wiping from CWM before you install your new ROMS. Also do a factory reset from CWM before you install new ROM.
People tend to have issues because they do not follow the directions.

Yeah @regder,

No need to miss FaceTime that much, there is Tango, and it is cross platform too, its the same thing!!!!

Although iMessage is awesome, there is alternatives....we just all need to choose one of these alternatives, and not all of them...WhatsApp should really push for this, or Hookt....If they don't, Facebook will win with their Messenger or Google+(since they all require data). I even see Twitter as a major threat, especially for group chat!!!

One major thing that i was pleased with, in choosing my Android device, the S3 has a HOME button, just like the iPhone.

You should really try to get it....I just got a flip case yesterday, and i have this app called Smart Screen Off, that if i close the lid, screen will turn off(i don't use this one, i use a swipe up to turn off screen with GMD Gesture Control)...or open lid to screen on(can prolong life in actual buttons not being pressed to wake device).

New BB10 devices launching January 30th.

I say that will be delayed or they will rush it and have major issues such as Apple's mapping software fiasco.

The BB10 will be laughed at. BB's were made popular due in part to having a real keyboard. There is no real keyboard on the BB10.
So those people might as well keep their old BB's or switch to nicer units such as iphones and Samsung Android phones.

RIM has nothing cool to offer. They had a few chances especially to incorporate their phone and tablet yet they constantly fail.

iPhone 5S..... spring release?

http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-working-on-iphone-5s-2012-11

Maybe they'll improve it further by adding an extra row of icons.

:laughing3:

This is going to seriously piss off their own customers. People will now feel that they are Apple pawns.
They release 2 major products and in a few months announce the upgraded version which adds the basic features from the initial product.
This is going to be good...let's see how long those Apple lines will be.
