Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Brine on the overpasses this morning out here in the east end.

It has begun.
Roads were brined yesterday in north York Region. Likely again today, as it was much colder; heavy frost this morning. Thursday's rain should wash it off, so we can have nice riding conditions for the weekend.

Wonder why they would do it when no rain to freeze the cold roads. Morning temps were -3 up here, but very dry.

Will likely get out tomorrow for a wee run, just enough to get the oil warm enough in the orange monster to do a change.

The snow tires are going on the cars tomorrow so it looks like the coming weekend is the time to do the fall/winter service on the bikes. Fuel and oil and lube change, wash, dry, service tires, chains, oil the controls and cables, remove and charge batteries, touch up paint, wax the plating, and so on. Put in the storage positions with covers in the garage. Always leave one bike ready to be used right away - if spring comes early. (Once it came in February!)

It's the stereotypical "Canadian in Florida in February" scenario. Send a Canadian to Florida in February and you can rest assured they're in shorts and t-shirts because to us, acclimated to Canadian winter, it's darned nice to us.. but meanwhile the locals are in winter jackets some days.
**** ya! I travel back and forth with only my wallet, passport and phone. No carry on, no luggage.

I keep my clothes in Fl, no long pants and no jackets in my closet. I don’t need a jacket until it hits 12c, I don’t remember that happening.

Bikes got stabilizer today.

Pulling batteries and cleaning probably tomorrow.

That's a wrap for me!
I have never been compelled to put a bike into hibernation in southern Ontario.

When I first started riding, I was game to jump on at 5 degrees or higher. Now I think it would take twice that temp to motivate me.

I rode enough this year, in circles, in a parking lot or two to get me through to spring. 😁

I've also (surprisingly) become quite the car enthusiast since buying the Merc. I think the sun may be setting on riding Ontario roads this upcoming season.

I'm getting to an age that if i'm going to get any long distance tours in, i need to make it this coming summer
Well if you have never been to the Smokies, that's as good a trip as any. If you can take 2-3 weeks for a trip, then you can even hit up some of the east coast too. Make it 4 weeks and you can have a great trip out west. Do it over 5 weeks and do it all.

+1 for the Smokie mountains.

Better cold weather gear?
With the gear I have 5C is no problem.

The roads in Orangeville were heavily salted at stops signs yesterday morning. We had some moisture and a very heavy frost the night before so the roads were icy in the early AM. Some of that frost was still visible in the late PM on the northern pitches of many roofs. There was also snow on the ground up in Dundalk. I know because a friend posted a video of her dogs running around her back yard enjoying the first snow fall of the season.

My bike is in it's winter position in the garage and unless it hits 12c that's where it's going to stay. I've transitioned into my winter mode and am looking forward to ski season. Ski lift training is set for November 30 and I hope to on the slopes soon after that.
