Yea. This is what my fear is about with thick winter riding gloves.
Which part of town do you live, I can bring them by or meet somewhere and you can try them out.

a few intersections north of Erin Mills. I wouldn't trouble with gloves though. I have 3 crooked fingers and it's an effort to find fitting gloves.

Two days ago I rode my new-to-me 2022 Talaria for the first time. Comes with a set of 19" wheels with dual sport tires I can't wait to put on, but need a new tube first.

Still not sure what to call this thing... I've seen it called an electric mountain bike, but that just seems wrong. But 'electric motorcycle' or 'electric bicycle' doesn't seem right either.

Anyway, did a little 20 km round trip. First impressions, surprisingly faster than the cage for getting through the city, though not as good as the motorcycles or the Vespa. It's not fast, but the first time putting it in sport mode was enough to knock my chin back. Fun little bastard.

Then the very next day the only thing I took out was my Honda:

While I like the concept of electric motorcycle they are in a very expensive legal black hole. I wouldnt ride one on the street as the ticket pile is too big and a no insurance ticket will double your mc insurance premiums.

100%. Definitely a grey area and if you get nailed, you get nailed hard. Part of why I can't wait to put the off road wheels / knobby tires on. It'll kill the temptation to go hooligan'ing...

...on road.

Is it grey? Does it meet the definition of an ebike? Most of those are pretty black and white.

I meant the Tusk wind blockers to see how they would work with your set up and gloves you now use.
I will be in the Scarborough area on Family Day and can swing by. Are you north or south of 401 on Erin Mills. Sorry the west end is still a mystery to me. 😂

As bought? No.

Given $250 to $350 and an hour of work? Yes absolutely.

There are both OEM and aftermarket bolt-on pedal kit options, along with a built in "ECO" mode which limits the bike to 32 km/hr limit. Some of the options are pretty cool and include pedal assist, others are barebones and cheaper.

Insufficient to meet the definition of an ebike. You cant pick and choose which parts of the very narrow definition to follow. Part of the definition is max motor size of 500 watts. You need a motor swap too.

Saw a guy on an e-bike pulling a bicycle trailer headed east on Highway 7 outside Peterborough yesterday, he had to be pushing 70kph - I passed him doing 80 and I didn't exactly blow by him.

Ah, I see. Truth be told I have no idea what the motor size is or isn't. That was never really a concern for us. We just wanted something I could beat around on off road, and that was small enough the missus (grew up on a farm with a "midget-sized" dirt bike) might feel comfortable riding.

Also not sure how, if a cop did see someone with a pedal kit, pedaling one of these things, keeping it under 32 km/hr, they would know what the motor size is or isn't... or why they would bother to stop a person to check? Hence the grey zone comment.

Yeah derestricted and in sport mode it'll do 60+ km/hr, and I think mine is the cheapest option from Talaria... I'm not really informed on this stuff because I'm cheap and top speed was never a concern, but I think their more expensive models will go much faster. My buddy's place up by Barrie backs onto some woods so he just dropped $8k on a Surron to ride behind his property. I guess he figured what the neighbours don't hear won't bother them. I think his will do 100+ km/hr.

I rode both my Star Venture and the Vulcan today.

About 5 meters each, out of and back into the garage.

Had someone come look at the Voyager so I had to dig things out. Voyager hadn't been running since I put it to bed in late October, and as expected, fired right up with just a blip of the start button.

Are your bikes on battery tenders and are the batteries AGMs?
Just curious, thanks.

I have 1 tender that I move around between the 3 bikes, rotating so that none of them are unplugged more than a few weeks at a time max.

The new Transcontinental seems to be more thirsty on the phantom draws as I've noticed everytime Ive plugged it in it pops into a charge cycle right away for 20-30 minutes or so after being unplugged for a week or so and not started. The sypder and the Voyager don't even pop into charge mode when plugged in a lot of the time, or if they do, it's not for very long, or is happening at some point I'm not watching.

Either way, tenders are absolutely the key to keeping your batteries happy over the winter slumber.

Looks like the Vulcan is sold, the guy who came and looked at it yesterday called back this evening and says he's going to take it.

Now I just need to find the ownership as I took it out of the bike a few weeks ago when I was moving everything to the new bike, apparently set it somewhere, and now I can't find it. Story of my life with the lingering post concussion syndrome. 😩

Guess I'll be taking a trip to Service Ontario one day after work. I always look forward to a visit to Service Ontario like I look forward to hemorhoids.

Woohoo!

If we get some rain to clear the latest round of salt off the road between now and then, I feel a mental health day coming on. I see 17's and 18's up north. An Algonquin loop in February would sure be kick ass.

Never trust weather more than 3 days away.
