Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2020 Edition)

You can kill people with impunity on bayview, but heaven forbid you speed a little.
Sigh, too true. Was just saying that on the weekend when yet another idiot did yet another idiot thing.
Bayview and Lawrence? yeah i almost got toasted there. thankfully he pulled over the car next to me :sneaky:

or down near DVP?
South of DVP. On the southbound side they park just past the Bloor overpass, on the northbound side it's the little parking spot for the entrance to Crothers Woods Trail just south of Nesbitt Dr. Basically if you're on Bayview between Moore Ave and Rosedale Valley Rd, assume you're being watched.

Anyone see the high on sunday?

Ooof.... that’s gonna melt all that white stuff off the yards. When I rode I never touched the bike until 1-2 good rains just to have the salt, grime, and sand off the roads wash off.

Today on queensway was a perfect example. Hope the rider is ok but that pavement is cold, wet and slippery....maybe good for a straight line but not cornering or stopping aggressively.

ya, sucks too. Rosedale is such a nice romp when its empty.

Who cares about the salt spray off your bike when you get home. If the roads look clear no way I will resist going for a rip in 7 weather.
Just gotta watch those corners where salt or sand piles up, oh and shadows spots where ice patches might still lurk, but yeah if it looks good why not.

Not worth it (to me). I can wait

Same with me, coming over the crest of the hill beside the private school early 8AM. Luckily a nice mercedes blipped their highbeams at me... came over and right on the other side, a cop doing laser tagging people as soon as they pop over. Just rode by but cop was just grilling me.. obviiusly heard my bike gofrom semi screamer to putting along and probably wasnt impressed by my actions coupled with someone tipping him off. Was really lucky because ironically I was late for my M test that day.

Yeah, even insurance makes no sense to me - do snowmobilers have special insurance? And a snowbike is just a motorcycle with a snowmobile track on the back and a snowmobile ski on the front. Or looked at another way, it's a snowmobile made from a motorcycle. Maybe they're thinking of motorcycles with studded tires?

That thing would be wicked in a straight line.

heard my neighbor ripping around on his cbr500

Why? The salt?
Ice, salt, snow, debris, other drivers, cold roads, hard tires.

at the best of times when we have to react things can go bad. Now imagine a situation with the above factors.
Pass.

and yeah salt, because you’ll spend more time cleaning then riding lol.

Sunday is looking promising

You are either in a different part of the province than I, or are looking at a different forecast.

Or you're going to be riding in the rain.

Ice, salt, snow, debris, other drivers, cold roads, hard tires.

Meh, I always say...ride to conditions. Conditions can be slippery, there can be crap on the road, and tires can be cold in October too....that doesn't mean I don't ride in October.

Other drivers? I see no difference in behaviour in January vs July - the "people aren't used to seeing motorcycles in the winter" thing doesn't hold water with me - I always ride as if cars don't see me anyways.

The salt thing is overblown. Contrary to popular belief motorcycles do not collapse into a pile of rust if they get some salt on them.

I think we're talking about the same thing, I'm just pointing out the factors right now are stacking up.

I ride till it dips below +5 and i come back when it's +5 BUT, after the crap is off the roads (debris & salt), after the roads are naturally warmed up and my tires can warm up on said roads. Not the 1 day during the week its +5.

Other drivers, again, not saying they are better or worse they are simply present.

Want to romp on Sunday? More power to you, but i wouldn't enjoy the ride hence you wouldn't see me out there.

FWIW I haven't been out in about 3-4 weeks now (but got a good solid 100km or so that last ride) because I'm not a fan of the meltwater running across the roads.

Salt dust or even rock salt here and there before it's washed away, doesn’t bother me. Streams of briny meltwater running acorss the road that'll get sprayed up all over the bike? Not so much.

But as for tires and road temperatures, neither concern me. Tires warm up when you ride, even in the winter. Does that mean I carve corners in January like I do in July? Hell no. But does it mean the bike is going to come out from underneath you if you dare lean into a corner at all? Nope, not at all.
