Who pays if you are hurt on the track?

wow - glad I didn't ask that question when I started.....I was just as naive.

Xtina - not sure I would go without extended coverage, physio and treatments can sure add up in a hurry.

For the record we do have insurance like that - I can purchase extended insurance thru my work policy that will cover me at the tracks in the states if my regular policy won't. I jjust have to discuss it with them before I go.

Since track bikes don't carry insurance and therefore don't insure you in a crash, who is responsible?
The answer is...... YOU

It was mentioned previously,,, how questions are posed is sometimes half the battle.

"What kind of insurance do I need for the track" questions get answers that befit the question,, ie, I'm looking to ride on the racetrack, I'm performing due diligence to make sure I have what is required in case of an incident.

I'm still dealing with issues from a track accident three years ago. They finally became bad enough that something had to be done. OHIP and benefits from work are what's footing the bill.

Keep in mind that many people don't have work insurance. Also, it's not improbable that your work insurance provider may take exception to extravagant costs associated with your choice or recreational activities.

Edited because I screwed up the quote.

I agree sometimes - but she asked 1)who pays or 2)does she pay out of pocket....not like she said "if I get hurt who the hell can I sue?"

Caboose and Busa validated those questions with answers. She also kept cool when she got jumped on.

Wow..holy angry birds!! :) If you take things so personally you're gonna have a heart attack!! I don't see that question being any different than "If I travel to the US, am I covered for medical costs? My insurance obviously won't cover me." I'm sure you can purchase medical coverage for track-related injuries, just like you can purchase coverage for travelling to the US. You guys aren't like "other" people who travel to the US without medical coverage, are you? No income-replacement..for someone without benefit coverage through their workplace, that would be the first question out of my mouth.

i see it's gone there

why cant members just answer the question instead of chiming with subjective interpretations and arrogant holier than thou statements of the obvious
hey as a new rider should i get a sportbike???????????????
is riding in my comfort zone a good idea?

this is an INFORMATION EXCHANGE

is there such a thing as a bad question?

who decides??

i am new here and dont wish to b disrespectful

Totally legit question for a newb to the track, I had the same questions wondering if there was track insurance or something extra to pay incase something happens. I know schools have an insurance option, no? When I did Turn2 ARC1 last year I am pretty sure there was an insurance option. That might have been just for bike damage and not personal damage though.

Honestly I think people jumped all over her cause of who she is dating, which is pretty messed up.

Are you totally, 100% sure that you will be covered in the States? Most/all have a "contest of speed" exemption from coverage.

From a guy who has been and am on both sides of the fence. IMO if you are not responsible for your own actions STAY OFF THE TRACK. I buy liability insurance (that is ridiculously expensive) and also double waiver everyone. I am a numbered company as well to protect myself.
Nobody has ever sued a race org successfully in Canada yet. I can tell you one thing if I ever get sued I will bankrupt myself and fight it to the end. Its just wrong.
!

Why did the Bar Hodgson track days stop?
If you have the liability insurance that trackday organizers do, dont they cover the legal fees since they would be paying any settlement? I dont know how that works.

I haven't done any track days or track events yet, but I would assume, similar to the exit courses they make you sign a waiver of liability. I would guess though that some people who suffer injuries try to argue that the waiver doesn't apply for whatever reason.

Cant sign your rights away

One of my best friends came up from the US (Wisconsin) to do a TD with me in June. He bought TD (sports) insurance! WTH? Why can't we buy that here? He said it cost him $30 on top of his regular traveller's insurance.

Because you have medical coverage? im sure you could buy it if you wanted

Popular in Europe, they do insurance on bikes as well as injuries. So there are options and you don't have to pay out of pocket 'when' something happens to you at the track. But, for the most part; OHIP and whatever else you got going for you will have to pay for it.
