I'm happy the witch's dead. The government interfering with the lives of law abiding citizens is a waste of tax dollars that could be put to a better use and makes hunting/sports shooting more difficult for the demographic that's the least likely to commit a criminal offense anyway.

100%

The result of the death of the LGR is now I am considering even more so to get my PAL and take up shooting as a hobby... as now there is one less piece of bureaucracy to deal with.

I still think that having to renew a PAL every 5 years is nothing more than a bureaucratic tax grab, but I don't think I will live long enough to see that disappear.

They should bring back that shooting club in Scarboro.

Ever seen a gangbanger go to a shooting range to compete?

I'm not defending the registry. As I said, I can see reasons for both sides of this debate.

I think the way the cops use it is like this:

"We've got a call for a domestic disturbance at 123 Anywhere St."
"Can you run that address and see if there's a firearm in the house?"

I could see this kind of interaction happening thousands of times per day.

Dumb. They should always assume there is a weapon in the house no matter what. The gun registry doesn't tell them if there are illegal guns or a sword, bat, knife, hammer etc etc

If I'm stupid enough to attack a cop with a weapon, while he's performing his lawful duties, chances are that I'm stupid enough to have illegal weapons. They don't show up in registries as submitted by law-abiding sportsmen.

You sure about that? :D

Funny thing is, those looked like cops.

I'm against the LRG because it is a waste of money that could be put to better use, saving more lives per dollar by going into medical care etc. It accomplishes virtually nothing that a tweaking of existing laws wouldn't have done.
Sexism? Would it have come about if a woman had killed 13 men?

yes, let's quickly start wasting 10X the amount of money on f35 contracts!!!

all hail the fiscally prudent harper government!

I hope he is using the right ammo.

I would like to see the vid where he misses and the bullet richocet off the partition :D

Yes, the fiscally responsible government that spent more than the preceding government they were complaining about, even before the economy tanked.

Not going to start a debate here about the jets, but I don't think most people understand how important protecting the north is, and those jets are a huge asset. Yes, our current F/A-18 is a bad *** jet, but it is outdated. The arctic is going to be economically important to Canada, and there seems to be doubt amongst some countries as to what we do or don't own.

There hasn't been an agreement signed for the jets yet as from what I heard on the news last week, and I do hope we wait a bit for the price to come down, but there is a genuine need for them.

Ive noticed a lot more "northern" oriented training that just a few years ago.

Then buy more ships or reconnaissance aircraft......these jets are more baubles than anything else. There's a reason many other countries are stepping back from their contracts to purchase them.

I don't disagree with you on that point. We could save a bundle by waiting a little or going with the Russian gen-5 jets if the strategic need is so time-sensitive. However you can't deny that the LGR was a useless waste of more billions of tax dollars,

LOL yes lets buy Russian jets... that'll be great for our relationship with our largest, closest, world-superpower ally.

If anyone will understand it's them. When Canadian workers are too expensive for them, they outsource their jobs. If they have a problem with that, they should get the planes made in China. I heard it's cheaper

Canada's military/aerospace industry has both secured and further potential contracts based on JSF development. There is a return on investment here that goes deeper than the skin.

Is it a full return? Of course not. Thats impossible. Military equipment is expensive and a depreciating asset. We're in need of some new planes and I personally think its a good opportunity for Canada to be involved in the design and manufacture of what will probably be the best military jet for decades to come.

Harper didn't dream this up. The wheels were set in motion a long time ago by a Liberal government. This is a decades long proposition, one which multiple Canadian federal govts have been involved in...both Liberal and PC. The liberals tend to forget this

So you find them. What do you do then; send a strongly worded letter?

Reconnaissance aircraft carry paratroopers? that's awesome.. how many guys jump out? 1?

Whats your suggestion for keeping ships within intercept range? Maybe send a couple of destroyers and a dozen frigates up there full-time year-round to patrol? Oh wait, our navy only HAS 12 frigates and 3 destroyers. Perhaps we should spend money on some ships too? Oh but wait, we're already doing that through the Arctic Patrol Ship Project... 3+ billion dollars to build, almost $5B total procurement cost.... for 6 ships. Why isn't anybody blasting the government for that project?

Ships intercept. Aircraft drop paratroops. All a strike aircraft can do is strike.

"Fighter" aircraft strike, interdict, and provide support. Reconnaissance aircraft don't have room to carry jump troops. Ships don't act on land. Every piece of equipment has a valid role.
