Which GPS system do you use aside from your phone

I bought one of the Garmin 660LM's from Costco as well, just got to finalize connecting the wiring to my relay controlled power block.

You don't need a GPS to ride to work fool... ;)

When are you showing me some new PA roads? since you are a local now.

That is the way mine is installed. Why go hacking into harnesses especially if your bike is Euro bike with CABUS electric system.
So the GPS came in today. I installed it to the battery. I stuck the negative under the negative screw, and positive under positive.

After watching some youtube videos, I see people sticking the wires into the fuse box. Will I drain my battery overnight with the way I did it? (Obviously removing me GPS off mount after use)

I use folding paper map Ver 3.4 on my bike. Works great. Has never let me down, except that it is not back lit, so it doesn't work very well in low light conditions. I have no problem with the power drain. It is minimal, now that I have installed a new battery. Easily updatable with a new version that can be found at the first gas station in each state.

So let's plunk you down in nowhere PA with a 1/4 of tank of gas .....:D

The problem with maps is ya gotta know where you are and in some areas.....not a hope in hell of navigating by your nose...just as likely to end up with banjos....;)

Old school is not always cool and most times very impractical

Also helps that I plan my route on my laptop, using MS Streets and Trips. Print off the maps from that. I've been on touring group rides where I have been near the back of the group. And the lead is using a gps. On those rides we have gotten lost. :) I'd be thinking to myself, why are we turning here. But I'd follow along anyway just to stay with the group. It also helps that I a very good grasp of maps and geography and have a very good memory.

hahaha. There is that. But a 1/4 tank of gas for me is still over 100kms of range. Heck, my reserve alone is good for 80km. And when travelling in the backroads of VA or WV or PA or ON, I never let it get that empty. Actually, I've only gotten lost once, because of poorly drawn maps and also mismarked roads. But I wasn't too worried since I knew whether I turned left or right, at the T intersection, there would be a town not too far down the road. Turned out I should have gone left. I went right. I lost maybe 30 minutes of time. :)

Best trick in PA is follow a stream or river downstream...they all end in a bigger river - usually the Susquehanna. The risk in PA is closed stations on Sunday.
I had to wait 11 hours for a AAA tow truck to find me and I even gave them the GPS coordinates. THEN he had to go 60 miles to find an open diesel station as he'd run low trying to find me.

Kid was nagging them by phone - I was like 10 miles out of Renovo and of COURSE the idjits went north on 144. sigh.

GF likes maps for the overview and I do switch TomTom App to the overview screen as I can watch progress ....especially toward fuel stations which got rather critical in Yellowstone....kid was on fumes.

At least in a car you can spread the map out. Once in while I'll stop the bike and fire up the lappie and look at a PDF map I've saved so I can decide where to head....but I DO always know where I am.

I tell you - you get so hooked on that .....when I got caught out with a dead phone battery and no charger cable it was rather dire as EVERYTHING was on the phone. ( was going somewhere to pick something up ). Battery life on a iPhone 5 sucks when the GPS is on and full bright. Bought a Mobie case/battery for it - been good.

Now I'm hooked on Audible books the touring set up is effortless and slab goes by right quick. Even don't mind doing the speed limit since I'm enjoying the book :D
