Which car. Any car enthusiasts here?

I don't know what you mean. 6 years with my 05 c class and hasn't ever left me stranded. I have heard horror stories but knock on wood mine has been great.

With a german car you can miss several sessions of work because your car has engine problems. Take into consideration you have to take time off to bring it in to a mechanic.

My experience with 3 BMW's are that one they hit 100k km they start to give problems. My brother 's X5 is just sitting in his garage & my ex' s 528i, they can't decide what to do with it

Leave it parked, unlocked in a mall, wait 3 days.

problem solved?

I really love my S4 but I'm not convinced that the A4 is a better car than several other options. It does have mod potential to make it more interesting (see APR, GIAC). Audi interiors are the best in the business, though. I was underwhelmed by the Acura cars, really liked the Q50 Infiniti and personally liked the Lexus quite a lot although they seem a bit "sterile."

PS I drove a pile of cars over the winter to find something my wife and I both liked. For a luxury car, you can't beat the AWD GS 350 for the price... it's nicer than a 5 series BMW. And for a performance sedan, the interior and performance of the B8.5 S4 sealed the deal for me over the BMW 335i but what really caught my attention is the reliability issues that BMW has had with its turbo i6 drivetrain... brutal feedback from two friends of mine who are working in BMW dealerships (separate ones), mostly to do with the fuelling system which BMW hasn't fixed or recalled despite it costing them expensive warranty work on virtually every car they've built.

2009 A4 2.0l quattro... In for warrenty work to fix a known issue with high oil consumption. Could be some kind of rebuild, not sure tho.

Car has manual transmission and sitting at just about 80k.

Yay? or nay?

Go drive it.

Even if I go to test drive it, I wouldnt know what to look for. I just need to know will this car give me at least 4 years problem free? lol

Seems like reliability is a big deal for you. Just do Honda or Toyota luxury counterparts.

The parts on German cars are crazy.

Infiniti
Japanese reliability, German performance.
I'm 6 years into my off lease 2006 FX45 and still LOVE it.

You keep circling back to 'problem free'. Sounds like a Honda is in your future.
Don't go drive anything German. It's all you'll think about. When you drive one, you'll know.

Not when you know the right people. Op go drive it and see if it's even for you. If you decide to go audi/vw I can put you in touch with a friend who owns a shop who takes care of people I send his way.

All this fear of germans is why I had a shop in Calgary. it's amazing how people read something on the net or a buddy tells them something and instantly a brand is no good. While every car has issues if you take of them and do proper maintenance you're fine. I may drive a Honda again (want an element and no one offers anything else like it) but otherwise I'll never own anything not German again, especially not north american or japanese. Reliable yes. Built to last engines the just forgot the body part

What about premium & deductible?

HOLLA holla get dollas

Alright forget reliability all that out the window lol.

Besides if something fails and it ends up costing me arm + leg for parts, I still have my Yamalube :D

Thanks Roomie, I'll keep that in mind if i decide to go German in the end.

My friend's Accord was completely brutal. The car leaked, and the back seat would get soaked with water, after five years of complaints and never fixing the issue, they sold the car... Honda would not buy it back and they waited far too long for the lemon laws (or so they told me, I'd have been more forceful). Drivetrain problems, wheel bearing problems, something to do with the steering, it just never ended. Anecdotal? For sure. But I rode in the back of the car to a wedding with them when I discovered that the rear seat was soaked through and got to hear the whole story about how it kept re-occuring and nobody could find the issue.

I'm not familiar with the 2009 A4. My only exposure to the B7 was my friend's S4 with the old V8. I do know, however, that the Audis did have an issue with ring sealing and oil consumption for those people who did not drive them "hard" enough when they were new. Audi dealerships recommend you go out and beat on the car mercilessly when they're new now. When the salesman handed me the keys to my S4, he told me to go out and see what it can do and to drive it like it owes me money.

Take a look at APR's available modifications for the A4:

http://www.goapr.com/

Pretty modest for the 2.0L without switching turbos, but it's 170awhp. If you look up the S4, they're pushing 400awhp with $1800 in mods! That's where I'm headed once I put some more km on my car. The best part is, it looks like a rental car... practically invisible to The Plod.

If I was buying a low-options car today and leasing or taking a loan, I'd probably get a Q50. $45K buys you a hell of a nice car. Or find a used G37. Make sure you budget wheels + snow tires for it, just like most sport/sporty cars on the market, because the stock tires are completely inappropriate to snow or ice.

Oh yeah, for those who haven't seen it, Audi A4/S4 interior. The next gen will get the A7 MMI which you can use gestures/writing on as well.

Before someone asks why I didn't get a high-option Q50: the Audi has a supercharged 3.0L, MMI, sport diff, Bang & Olufsen, DSG transmission, easy mod potential and I hate that the touchscreen in the Q50 can't keep up with your gestures... that aggravated me to no end. The Q50 was quite a bit cheaper, mind.

B7 S4 = yes please. Reliable, powerful and oh the noise!

For sure. But bear in mind that if you keep it long enough you'll need to maintain the cam chain + accessories. Parts alone are $6000. Also, they understeer... not that you'll care much unless you go to the track or have a really tight road nearby.
