Where's Covid today?

I have a half sister coming to TO from New Zealand in October but it's complicated in that another relative may be due for surgery about the same time. My wife will be the care giver for the other relative so it turns into a medical domino crap show if anyone gets C-19.

All media attention seems to be on US and Canada politics and the media isn't particularly noble in the first place.

My half sister is a nurse so not dumb but she will be in an aluminum tube with hundreds of others for 18 hours.

Anyone have a crystal ball? Tarot cards?

I think it's in the rear view now. Someday the real truth will come out...

Keep on top of basic hygiene and you will be fine, wear a mask if you feel someone around you isn't practising that, and coughing like a F'uker
🤷‍♂️

Didn't Toronto stop testing sewage cause it was deemed not necessary anymore? People really still stressing about covid?

latest I know of
Eric Topol on the current wave and details of how it differs from the early Omicron.

The Indomitable Covid Virus
https://erictopol.substack.com/p/the...le-covid-virus

Quote:
Fortunately, the rise in levels of the virus, still going up in all 4 major US regions (most recent CDC data below) has not been linked with as much severe Covid (absolute increase) as was seen in prior waves, but compared to last week there was a relative increase of 25% of deaths and 12% increase in emergency room visits due to Covid.
...
The antigenic distance map below reflects that evolution. JN.1 is further way from the infamous Omicron BA.1 than BA.1 is from the major variants of 2020 and 2021 (Wuhan-ancestral, D614G, Alpha, Delta, Beta). KP.3 and KP.3.1.1. is to the right of JN.1 (not shown), even further away. The virus will not stop here, despite our desire to will it way. It will continue to find new ways to infect and reinfect us, under selection pressure from our prior immunity (be it infections, vaccinations, or combinations).
...
Added to problem of the virus‘s evolution and, as a result, is the blunting of our immune response, the big issue of waning immunity. The vaccine boosters only last 4-6 months for protection from severe Covid, do little after early weeks for any protection from infections or spread. The same goes for infections. Neutralizing antibody levels go down. Our interferon first line of defense gets blocked (Shane Crotty called this the “superpower of SARS-CoV-2” in our podcast this week).

Good luck ...it is so endemic there is a constant risk of catching it.....much lower risk of severe outcomes. Ask the nurse for advice and have test kits available.
The covid now is a long ways from the original killer but far more infectious. There are anti-virals

There is a new wave of it. I am a cashier at a grocery store so got it at work 'cuz I touch 100% of what the carrying public touches. Day 6 and I'm on the mend.

If you have it go immediately because if you are medically vulnerable they will start you on anti-virals if it is caught early enough.

I was too fit so they didn't give me anything, said the AVs were hard on the liver so they only use them in risky cases.

This is the final lesson--I'm back to wearing gloves at work.

Be vigilant. I was at the family doctor last week and asked if he is seeing any Covid cases, says he sees 4-5 each week although symptoms are milder, it is still around. The receptionist still wears a mask.

Using your brain is not living in fear.
How many deaths from covid are you hearing about these days?

Did I miss something? Like the part where i said don’t use your brain?

You seem to be reading into my post a bit more than I intended

It’s on the rise. Any “bad cold” in Ontario is likely COVID according to doctors. The hospitals have more cases in. Death isn’t the issue, it’s what happens after infection now. Any virus that knocks out your sense of smell is affecting your brain and it’s still knocking that out now. Wife has been out with a persistent respiratory issue for the past couple of weeks. I’ve got something now. Not masking yet but I’m avoiding crowds and washing hands all the time etc.

A few people at work got Covid over the last few months. Don’t know if it’s on the rise or just never went away

Are you upto date with your booster shots? If so, nothing to worry about.

That is what I dont understand.
Is it the same case for other diseases? Say for instance, I get a vaccination for chicken pox or tetanus - will I still fall sick with those diseases within 5 years?

You absolutely can. Flu shots can be partially effective for instance depending on strain and that’s the case here too.
