Spoiler: It's not a GSD, so I don't care.
My buddy’s Shepherd has had horrible back/hip issues. Which sucks because he’s a wonderful dog, and is only 5-6 years old.I read somewhere that the requirements for show standards of purebred German Shepherds have been responsible for basically ******* their hips up! Not sure how true that is but I’ve seen quite a few with back/hip/rear leg issues. Love the dogs. Very intelligent!
Just had a chat with my wife. She's all gun ho for an Australian Shepard...I still like the Beagle idea. But I'm coming around to the Aussie.
There’s so many pluses to each breed and dog that it’s almost impossible to choose. It’s like a baby, you can do all the research in the world…in the end this living and breathing being will do it’s own thing and you have to work with it.Any shepherd dogs need a ton of stimulation otherwise they get pissy. Lots of exercise etc.
I would take the Beagle over the Aussie.Just had a chat with my wife. She's all gun ho for an Australian Shepard...I still like the Beagle idea. But I'm coming around to the Aussie.

My brother's got two Aussie's. Both are shitheads. To be fair, he didn't get them as puppies, but they crap in the house, and bark incessantly. Can't stand them, and I love dogs.Just had a chat with my wife. She's all gun ho for an Australian Shepard...I still like the Beagle idea. But I'm coming around to the Aussie.
Oh wow that blows. We are hoping to adopt a dog <2 years old so will still be (hopefully) trainable. My brother's got two Aussie's. Both are shitheads. To be fair, he didn't get them as puppies, but they crap in the house, and bark incessantly. Can't stand them, and I love dogs.
Get a budgie, Lot easier to take care ofSo youngest is close to 2 now and the topic came up again (stopped looking when youngest came around).
Sis bought a Burmese Mountain Dog + Poodle and wife is now looking for a dog also.
She wants a fairly small puppy, one that doesn’t shed too much, and is good with kids.
For her the front runner is a Cuckapoo (wtf is that mean?). I’m leaning more toward a beagle or a terrier, although I would love a Hungarian Viszla. Beautiful dogs but require lots of energy to be burnt.
Go for it!So youngest is close to 2 now and the topic came up again (stopped looking when youngest came around).
