When I push my bike with engine off

What's the consequence of crossing a picket line..? Personally I can see myself just riding past them honking and flipping em the bird for holding me up.

I don't think there's a legal issue with crossing a picket line, the issue comes from the almost inevitable moment when a picketer decides that they should interfere with your crossing the line (their stated objective in manning it). Someone gets hurt, even slightly, and then there are the legal and insurance hassles that follow.

Wasn't claiming that the bike magically transforms, only that you are not OPERATING it.

If one makes the argument that by pushing a non-running bike down the street, one is operating a motor vehicle, then a speeding tow-truck driver should get two tickets, one for the tow truck, and one for the towed vehicle that he was 'operating'.

Right but somewhere in the law it is written that once he attaches the other vehicle for the purposes of the law it becomes a single vehicle. Please don't make me look it up. :sad1:

Really what this discussion is about is the law versus community. If you take the 401 as an example, the law says the speed limit is 100km/h, but the community has decided it is 120. The cops have every right to pull you over goinng 115 but they realize this would only turn the community against them and is unrealistic so they just go with the 120. It is what is wrong with speed cameras. They have no ability to be rational and say "Hmmm what is the community as whole decided?" They just get set at a unrealistic 110 and start collecting taxes...err...I mean fines.

Is it illegal to push your motorvehicle up the sidewalk? Yes it is. Will you get a ticket? Depends on what you are doing and how the officer views it. I ran out of gas IN MY DRIVEWAY once with my car. My friend and I push it out on the road and then on to a major street and to the gas station (not far.) While we were doing it I turned around and there was an officer with his lights going. I thought "F..." But nope he just followed me to the gas station and once we got the car in continued on his way. Was I breaking the law? I am sure but that day the guy understood. That is when community takes over from the law and it works for all.

If you read every discussion here I bet you can boil it down to community versus the law. Is it bad that motorcycles in a traffic jam could filter? Yes according to the law. But why do people get so upset. Is it the law or is it because they have this feeling that the motorcycles are "getting ahead of them and don't have to sit in traffic." I bet it is both. The sense of community is missing there. Who cares if they get ahead?

Just my two cents.

Legally I'm not sure. But it could be harmful to your person if they are a very organized and motivated group.

I did a quick google search and from what I found they are allowed to picket, as long as it doesn't block the roads. And what kind of "harm" are we talking about here? None of those guys have any right to lay a finger on me. If they try it, a hobo with $20 and my old paintball gun will resolve it. Plus, the second they touch me, I have a right to fight back to defend myself.

I asked what would happen if I just cross it without waiting - they said then everybody else will suffer, because they will increase waiting time for all other people.
Now I kinda want to find a home addresses of those people and start blocking their personal driveways for 2.5 hours every morning - let them idiots taste their own stuff. Unions will kill that country, just like soviet union does not exist anymore.

Lol where is this picket line? I really dont see how people can sit there for 2.5 hours in traffic because some union people are blocking the road. **** that, I'm going through unless they have a legal right to block off that street. Get in my way? Go-Pro is recording and if you get hit its your own fault. I think a group ride through the area with 30-40 SS bikes and a few loud harleys would have them let all of us through very quickly. You have a problem with your job, fine, but dont ****ing get in my way because I'm NOT gonna wait even 10 mins for your cause.

Well, they know how to piss people off in more or less legal way. They do not block the street - they block driveway to the company property by walking back and forth on the pedestrian walkway in front of it. Technically and legally you must let pedestrians go before turning to that driveway - they are pedestrians, and they have the right of way. This is why they can not block another pedestrians, and this is why my question - person pushing bike with engine off - is it still a driver or it becomes a pedestrian. (meantime I just share a car with my coworker - still waiting, but what can we do).

Reminds me of the picket line that happened at my friend's university.

Thankfully, though, there was a catwalk for a rear entrance. No one was around, so I took the chance.

do u follow all the rules when u drive/ride??

Oh cool. So if we see someone else not follow the rules, then we don't have to either?

This is why unions have to start rioting. Get the power back. :)

did it again today. hwy 10/89 closed off for 3 car pile up. jumped off and walked past the cars and the cops while I took the shoulder past the cars and cops

My question

... pedestrian pushing their bicycle across an intersection (which you are supposed to do as riding your bicycle across an intersection in the crosswalk is considered the same as a motorized vehicle using the crosswalk which is illegal). Whether you wear a helmet at that point is up to you though.
if u still dont get why i said what i said.... whatever.. most people on this site dont. taking every fking word someone writes literally is not my thing.

sorry for the not staying on topic thread...
