when does the salt start?

An interesting comparison of winter maintenance of pavements in cities.

Thought this is relevant to this thread. Esp. at 10:15 mark

daily drivers in garages (winter) will rust faster than ones parked outside,
My cars live outside and hardly have any rust (could be cause they're Toyotas though....). My 2013 Matrix has no visilbe rust. A buddies (garaged) 2017 Ram is almost ready to loose the bottom edge of the front doors.

Less rust on the cars more room for bikes. Win Win!

The weather is dipping below 0 mid week (for Toronto), should see some signs of salt/brime whateve's, starting to appear
And I laughed at my neighbour for putting his snow tires on this weekend.

Saw my first salt today on Hwy 101. About 2” of snow at 7AM near Mathison.IMG_5481.jpeg

Looks like it's going to snow tonight in Mississauga. I hope it's just the flurries.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

How many sleeps til Rice Lake freezes over?

Pushing an inch on the ground near barrie. I don't expect it to stay long. It wpuldnt be fun riding tonight.

I only have one more ride, moving bike from one garage to another. Thankfully a short daylight ride.

I change over to winter tires in mid-October every year. I've been caught before so now I just make sure they are on before Halloween.

Still hoping for a day or two of riding weather before I put the ski racks on the car.
My only ride remaining is to go get gas into the tank and fuel stabilizer.

Will pick up the stabilizer this week. I may have been smart enough to fill up the tank after my last ride.

Oh i missed this thread. This morning's commute was nice and toasty (with the right gear on...)
Did look like there were brine lines on the roads

Make sure to run it for a bit after the stabilizer goes in. You want stabilized fuel in the injectors.
I would add stabilizer at home before going out to get gas.
Top it up and ride back.
Gives the stabilizer chance to get into all the right places.

There are always a few good days in November as long as the salters haven't been out. Salt out, bike in for the season.

Mind you, once I went up north on a warm day here, and of course they had snow earlier in the week and you can see the brine and salt on the road. Had to get home and wash it, so there is that to watch for.
