When did Jeep Wranglers become so bloody expensive???

Hey jeep owners, this is what Ground clearance vs traction means

Your big wheelers cant help you if they dont find traction.

^Agreed 100%. Jeeps are cool/sexy like an adventure bike. Most Subarus are all practical, like a Burgman.

Just an FYI this is a charity event we do every year for the last 11 raising money for children's wish. About $25000 raised so far.

My point was, your vid only shows ground clearance of a big wheeler. Nothing about AWD vs 4WD.

If a SH-AWD car with the same ground clearance, it can climb anything your jeep can.

I consider SH-AWD is the most advanced AWD system. It can put 80% of drive train power to a single wheel. Imagine what your Jeep 4WD can do if 3 of its wheels have no traction.....

There is NO WAY a awd car with the ground clearance could do the same climbs. It doesn't have anywhere near the same suspension travel or articulation.

Sigh..... so you agree it has nothing to do with awd or 4wd? You know, the rock climbing?

When i say ground clearance i also mean suspension travel...

Ps. Before we're going too far off, i like to remind you this is about driving in snow ( not deep snow). An individual spilled nonsense that awd is a joke to his 4wd BLD. I guess he would not dare to back his claim.....as usual.

Ground clearance and wheel travel are 2 completely different things. Think of all of those guys with pickup trucks lifted 3 feet. Those things have as much travel as a honda civic. 2 door jeeps are garbage in the snow Btw. Too short of a wheel base, they want to do donuts everytime you turn.

For the sake of the argument, i dont need to specify both. I'm pointing out the real differences of modern awd and 4wd BLD. Your vid shows none. See the vid i posted above.

This begs a question, why not buy an atv or rock climbing vehicles ( like Crawler) and save the embarassing look when you pull your rock climber to your local supermarket?

Until an European Luxury car pull next to your Jeep. Quality > quantity. Just like how i always see a chick on a HD .... no thanks.

sorry Bud, I thought you were droning on about Subaru, and now you pull Euro luxury car out of your file ? pick a story pal.
WRX is the dual sport of cars, thats not the one your driving right?

Your Asian wizz bang Subby gets you 8L/100km, my jeep gets me laid.

First, thanks for calling me bud. Not sure i would call you the same.

Second, i do have an european car as well.... just as i have more than 2 bikes. But nah, Jeep driver wont understand that.

Finally, i laugh at your attempt to talk me down because apparently you ran out of ideas. "My Jeep got me laid bro".... the exact words a ricer told me in timmies parking lot, so i will respond the same as i said to him " good for you"

I'm not getting into this pissing match about AWD vs. BLD, etc. but BLD is a joke in winter. Braking one wheel robs you of any forward momentum, and hinders your progress. What every Wrangler should come with is anti-spin differentials, or lockers. I've got the LSD on mine, and it's unstoppable. I don't do any rock crawling, so didn't get lockers front and rear. For the money they ask for these things, LSD should be standard.

Tires make a much bigger difference than most people realize. I would drive my RWD BMWs with winter tires around Pathfinders, and other SUVS on all-season tires stuck in the snow *all the time*. Tires are going to be the limiting factor in most of the driving conditions we encounter here. Next is driver skill -this is where most people fail, as they expect their A/S shod AWD RAV4 or CRV to drive like an M1 Abrams.

I spend a lot of time in the winter in the backcountry, camping, fire roads, etc, so I wanted the ground clearance. If you don't need that, you're fine with a Quattro (or similar) equipped sedan with good winter tires. If you need to go literally anywhere, a Wrangler with LSD or lockers, with good winter tires is pretty tough to beat. In the summer, I can take off the roof and doors. That's pretty tough to beat, too.

Look I was not arguing jeeps are superior on many surfaces. They just aren't the best winter winter vehicle for all conditions. For example I can fly on packed snow mountain roads faster than a jeep can drive on them in the summer

Yours may go faster, but mine will go anywhere.
You don't buy these things to go fast. The only time they're going to 'fly' is if you drive it off a cliff somewhere.

The jeep wranglers are neat and all, but good god the fuel mileage is craptastic. My mother in law has a newer wrangler.... and it's just brutal on fuel.

I thought I would pull up some information before jeep owners attack -> http://www.fuelly.com/car/jeep/wrangler

Lol. Most Wrangler owners would be ecstatic to get 16mpg combined. Myself included.

By the time you add heavier metal bumpers, oversized and wider mud tires, etc. to a vehicle that has the aerodynamics of a Frigidaire, the fuel efficiency gets worse.
Whatever. You need to pay to play. If I wanted fuel efficiency, I would have bought a Prius. I would have eaten a bullet within a week though.

His wife REALLY likes the Jeep.

Somebody should build a lighter weight 2 wheel drive bare bones jeep look-a-like. Maybe on a Ford Ranger 4cyl/5 sp type platform. A pragmatic beach buggy with good fuel economy if you will. I have a comprehensive dream vehicle wish list of stuff nobody's ever going to make. PM for details. 95% of the cars/trucks/motorcycles out there are just a byproduct of cultural marxism. Knock it off, people.
