I had this planned many years ago for my three kids. I didnt look too hard but never found anyone that looked like they had the skills to do it how I wanted. The closest I got quoted me around 3K and many hours and that was a long time ago. I shudder at the cost now but its been too long for me to consider it now.

Do some research on IG. There are so many artists doing “tours” across continents and def visiting Toronto as a huge hub. I was looking into fine line tatoos and it seems most talented artists are in Europe but was surprised when IG started throwing me suggestions for bookings with those artists during their NA tour in Toronto. Also some Japanese famous artists are frequent in Vancouver to save the trip to japan… Currently I’d say 1/3 of my IG is tatoo artists posts - do it or not, most of it just pure amazing art, especially huge area covers in Japanise style.

None on me or my kids. We all have some nasty scars collected in fights, hockey and football.

Wife had a small word tattooed on her foot 10 years ago, can’t read it any more.

My dog had one in her ear.

Mimico > Your body, your choice. What you put on/off it...should only matter to you. No one else.
While I agree in principal there is a larger aspect of where and content to be considered.
If the tattoo is not publicaly visible ...who cares.
If it is, certain images and content could negatively impact you and your social relations and job prospects.

Plenty of people with ink tell curious people to mind their own business.

I've uttered the phrase "I'm sorry, I don't recall asking you for your opinion" more than a few times. Indeed.
Thailand. 👍🏼

How do you vet someone's quality of work in a far flung place with a language barrier on top of it all though? I'd be worried about something like this happening...

I have a 8-10" long scar right up the middle of the back of my neck from a spinal fusion 25 years ago. More than a few times over the years I've thought about having a zipper tattoo done just for ***** and giggles, but when I actually researched it, turns out it's been kinda over-done a million times already, so meh.

If only you knew someone who had ink done there...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Just like here the artists/shops all have social media accounts and post new works, or in person have books full of jobs done. In high tourist areas the owners all speak english or have kids who translate, there's also Google translate to fill in the gaps.

That being said, ink is 'permanent' so I completely get the vetting part. I asked 3 random people in Chiang Mai what the characters i was about to get put on my arm meant. Ain't getting 'toilet seat' permanently on my skin!

Getting ink on vacation spooks me.
Quality standards could be different than here and then there is the fact you need to be careful with what is literally an open wound. Don't need or want any of those concerns on a trip. That and three tats should be enough.

absolutely, you need to be informed and educated.

I was contemplating caterpillar or centipede over the scar on my leg. Lots of Staples so the design would have worked. It's mostly faded now and there is still a chance I have it opened up again to remove the plate so I'm no longer contemplating that path.

They used to be rebellious and cool 30+ yrs ago but now they're just conformist aren't they? I mean these days every other 50 year old office worker has them.

Exactly, these 50 year olds are yesterday’s 30+ yrs and rebels of the past..
..it’s just their tattoos got faded and stretched in wrong ways LOL

There are tattoo artists who specializing in old and faded tattoos restoration and refreshment with colors and sharper lines.. It’s fascinating what one can find on IG :)

I got mine done by David Glantz at a studio in Parkdale called Bobby5. David then opened up his own shop and now has a studio called Archive Tattoo on Dundas West, very close to Dufferin.

David does excellent touch up work and restoration as well, but there might be a long wait. When I got mine done back in 2006, he had a 4 month wait. But he’s very professional and highly skilled so the wait was worth it.

Also helps that I have a fast metabolism and my physique hasn’t changed in 30 years, so my tats still look pretty good. But this thread has me thinking I’ll book an appt to get them touched up and add some roots to wrap down and under my heels.

I'm in much the same boat with some surgical scars on my legs. Pondered getting some ink on them for a few years but in the end i left them alone as more of a reminder of the good work that the orthopedic surgeon did on me.
Not being sarcastic at all the guy did a damn good job considering the damage he had to work with.

I have 'em, I like 'em. None of mine I regret but I have started covering some with better artwork. I don't think I'll ever be done getting them but I go long periods without any work being done. I've fallen asleep while being tattooed (Bicep) and I've experienced some of the worst pain I've ever had (armpit). Never used a numbing agent, I've been told they tend to wear off anyway.

The only ones I don't tend to like are the "trendy" small scratch/word tattoos on neck/face before your heavily tattooed elsewhere and the I did so many flash tattoos without planning location it doesn't make a cohesive design when viewed together, but I'll never yuck your yum unless your a POS with racist tattoo and then I'll tell you to get the f outta here with that while being happy you labeled your self so you are easily avoided.

They all look like someone’s been scrawled on with a sharpie to me. Might as well do that, save yourself some money and also wipe them off with acetone every now and then to change things up.

Fine Line tattoos seem to be popular nowadays, hard to make those with sharpie :)
