What is wrong with the USA?

According to U.S. sources, Russia and China can move a huge majority of their population into well-prepared blast-resistant fallout shelters in 2 days.. That is to be taken as a warning for Americans to stock up and dig their own. If you don't believe me, read Kearney's Nuclear War Survival Skills Very educational and I hope to God, utterly useless

That'd be perfect if anyone had two days notice of a nuclear war.

I know who can clear all problems with humanity - aliens

In general you would.. Tensions would rise between nuclear powers and at that time, they'd have their home defense plans set up. Essential personnel would get evacuated relatively quickly and they would just play it by the ear for the general population. A terrorist attack with nuclear weapons would be a lot deadlier than an all-out nuclear war.

Resurrecting this old thread because at least some of it was intelligent.

To add to my "What is wrong with the USA?" rant, I'd like to add the following comment. The USA spends billions of dollars intervening in conflicts all over the world, militarily and diplomatically. They try to influence elections and mediate disagreements. They try to lead a peace process in the middle east. Put an end to ethnic cleansing and civil war in Yugoslavia and Central Africa. They claim to want to stop disease and poverty, with humanitarian aid to natural disaster zones and refugee camps.

And yet, they can't debate, resolve, and agree upon a budget for their own country. They are so blinded by their own divisive politics, agendas, and misinformation, that they are putting the world's economic recovery at risk. Greece is defaulting on its debt, yes, and that's a concern. But Greece is not the USA. The american budget debate is currently the single biggest financially destablizing issue in the world today. There are people in the USA who would gladly default on their debt in order to gain politically.

This is incompetence and mismanagement on a criminal scale. Someone needs to stand up and put a stop to this insanity and stupidity. They ought to be ashamed.

me thinks they know exactly what they are doing.
Who is going to stand up to them? Is china or Canada going to start a trade embargo with the USA? Hardly.

very interesting thread, with canada being tied so closely to the US, i would really hate see what would happen to Canada if the US collapsed. Another thing most people dont understand either i think is that with the Canadian dollar higher then the American it can actually hurt canadian companies

I would say that each party knows what they are doing, but they are playing the brinksmanship game. It is all partisan politics. One side wants to cut spending and the other side wants to raise taxes. In reality, they need to do both, and it's not going to be pretty, particularly with the unemployment rate that they already have.

0% invested in government debt, 0% invested in anything denominated in US dollars ... because I don't trust the US dollar.

I was invested in a few gold miners, but the recent run-up resulted in some call options reaching their strike prices, so it all got called away ... I may get back in.

Besides how can you treat someone as inferior if you don't think they are equal to you in the first place?

A white American also feels he is superior to a white Canadian, German, Italian etc. They have the right to park a missile next to your back yard but you can't have one next to theirs because their right to safety is more important than your right to safety.

Actually I think things are even more petty than they seem. The republicans might actually agree to most democratic demands IF they are allowed to revisit the issue again in 6 months time when elections/election preparations are in full swing. Obviously that's not a mature proposition for the democrats to accept.

Like you said, both will happen.

The thing that's great about the US is that you can always count on them to do the right thing.

...after having exhausted all other courses of action.
