If you steal 11M, flip houses to turn it into 20M and pay back the 11M, does the government leave you alone with the 9M so their failure to have even basic checks in place disappears from the public conscience?

The checks and balances that the public service has in place to prevent fraud are embarrassing. Without a SIN number, I shouldn't be eligible for benefits. If I have SIN numbers for lots of kids that aren't mine, there should be a bunch more charges.

You would think he would go the other way with this and go after these people and show he is responsible, going after waste etc, as it would be inline with what he is trying to promote and accomlish. This just makes our gov look worse then it already is.
Don’t worry…election is coming and the free money will be flying around.

Turns out a judge felt sorry for him. He ruled the ON gov't freezing the $28 million he stole deprived him of the funds needed to countersue the govt. The judge awarded the crook $150,000 of taxpayers money 3 weeks ago to help him with legal costs.

Theoretically but the government cares more about scandal than money imo. I suspect if you offered that deal, the government would withdraw cooperation and the charges would get dropped. That ends it quickly with a short byline ("An employee stole money. All of the money has been returned and the employee was terminated").
