What do you guys do when the bike is in the shop

OP, the engine will be fine. There's always the 100-200ml that won't drain plus it's not like you dumped the remaining half a litre in one shot. At any rate, you were most likely running within the range and even if not the engine has a tolerance.

As for dumping money on a dealership (the whole 1st/2nd service), do yourself a favour and do your oil changes (that's what these "services" are) yourself. You'll save about $250. If you can't do that, any bike shop will do it cheaper than a dealership. And don't worry, it will not affect your warranty. A dealership is forbidden to force you to service your vehicle with them.

Dripping oil in front of your rear tire isn't ideal, especially for a new rider (and even more especially for a rider that doesn't check their oil levels often).

This worried me more as i thought about it, had that seal let go or really started to piss out it could have been bad!

Thanks for the info, i was hoping it wasn't to low. I let them do the first service since the valves had to be checked as per the owners manual at 1000km to maintain my warranty, i did the next service or oil change myself when i switched to Motul and that's when i really noticed something was not right.

So how else can i keep busy, im sitting here at work and just watching bikes cruising up and down the road is killing me inside, i don't want to drive my car!

If you wear ALL your gear, including helmet & ride the TTC, you can probably have the whole seat to yourself, even during rush-hour. Especially if you make engine noises and tuck-in.

Or just ATGATT on a bicycle and confuse other bikers.

So i just purchased a 2013 cbr500r and on may 24th i took her home, i have about 7000 km already and literally cannot get off my bike. My 1000km service was done in June ($300) and about 2 weeks ago I did my 2nd service / oil change and switched to synthetic Motul. Now the first thing that alarmed me was the bike takes 2.7L of oil and we only filled 2 1L jugs with the old oil that came out! (i thought the dealership didn't fill the oil up properly)

I spent a few hours cleaning and detailing the bike and took the chain guard off and there was TONS of gunk behind the front sprocket, i thought it was just me being a dumb *** when i first greased the chain and used to much lube.

Then the next day after i cleaned everything up the engine was covered in oil and a small drip on my garage floor, went down to the dealership where i bought it thinking it was a gasket or something simple they messed up during the first service.

Well apparently the oil seal behind the front sprocket is leaking (who know for how long? 0km or after the 100km service) and the part is back ordered. I dropped the bike off on the weekend and today finally heard that an estimated date is August 26th for this seal!

It will all be covered by warranty but WTF am i going to do for 2 weeks without a bike in August. First off i'm paying 400 a month for insurance to ride, so 200 of that is essentially wasted, they only gave me a 1 yr warranty and if i have been riding for 0-7000km (who knows) with almost 1L less oil than required did i hurt my motor? with my awesome luck next season the day after warranty ends it will explode.

Really not confident in this bike AT ALL anymore and even more upset that Honda wouldn't have critical parts on hand for a brand new bike!

Anyways that's my rant, i also requested a loaner bike which they do not have so i'm literally SOL till the end of the month.

Stop whimpering, pull your bike from the shop and ride it. Tell them to call you when the oil seal comes in. Do you really think a mincy oil seal leak is gonna kill your engine?

Winter is for maintenance. Summer is for riding.

End of thread.

if you do your own oil changes and plan on selling your bike later on keep your receipts...

If i still had a bike i likely would have worn all my gear and cruised around.

Its been almost 10 years since i had to ride the HSR, NOTHING can make me do that again...

The only thing with this is they will likely deny me warranty if i continue to ride it since they are aware of the issue.

I def planned to do this, i do plan on upgrading to at least a 600 maybe next year.

Have you asked them?

What dealer provided you with a loaner?

im literally dying not being able to ride this weekend and i still got atleast 10 more days till the parts will be delivered...

Wolf BMW. You need to have bought your bike from them though to get a loaner. As far as I know, all BMW dealerships offer loaners when your bike is in service if purchased from them.

If you have fancy TD Meloche Monex insurance you get a loaner bike when your bike is out of commission for an insurance reason. Not sure this qualifies though.

You should work out and get buff during your off time.

Or just buy 2 motorcycles for the price of that BMW. :)
