What do you guys do when the bike is in the shop

So i just purchased a 2013 cbr500r and on may 24th i took her home, i have about 7000 km already and literally cannot get off my bike. My 1000km service was done in June ($300) and about 2 weeks ago I did my 2nd service / oil change and switched to synthetic Motul. Now the first thing that alarmed me was the bike takes 2.7L of oil and we only filled 2 1L jugs with the old oil that came out! (i thought the dealership didn't fill the oil up properly)

I spent a few hours cleaning and detailing the bike and took the chain guard off and there was TONS of gunk behind the front sprocket, i thought it was just me being a dumb *** when i first greased the chain and used to much lube.

Then the next day after i cleaned everything up the engine was covered in oil and a small drip on my garage floor, went down to the dealership where i bought it thinking it was a gasket or something simple they messed up during the first service.

Well apparently the oil seal behind the front sprocket is leaking (who know for how long? 0km or after the 100km service) and the part is back ordered. I dropped the bike off on the weekend and today finally heard that an estimated date is August 26th for this seal!

It will all be covered by warranty but WTF am i going to do for 2 weeks without a bike in August. First off i'm paying 400 a month for insurance to ride, so 200 of that is essentially wasted, they only gave me a 1 yr warranty and if i have been riding for 0-7000km (who knows) with almost 1L less oil than required did i hurt my motor? with my awesome luck next season the day after warranty ends it will explode.

Really not confident in this bike AT ALL anymore and even more upset that Honda wouldn't have critical parts on hand for a brand new bike!

Anyways that's my rant, i also requested a loaner bike which they do not have so i'm literally SOL till the end of the month.

So how else can i keep busy, im sitting here at work and just watching bikes cruising up and down the road is killing me inside, i don't want to drive my car!

Wank?

Sorry couldn't resist. Do what you did before may 24. CNE is on, lotsa outdoors stuff to do in and around city, maybe catch up on some stuff you've been putting off?

Doubt you did any damage, esp if oil light stayed off.

It's sitting in the shop for two weeks? What shop? Some are notoriously bad with their estimates.

As per your request, here are some options:
1. crawl into your bed under your blanket into a fetal position and just sob until they call you to pickup the bike
2. get a few tubs of ice cream and pizza, hang out on your couch and catch up on romantic comedies, while waiting for them to call you
3. go to the bike meets and ask people in person what to do and if you can ride their bike
4. play motorcycle racing video games
5. go camping until the shop calls you back

good luck!

During an oil change, not all the oil will drain, Some will always stay in the bike. Proper fill up is to use the sight glass and proper measuring instructions.

You've got that first rider itch....believe me it goes away. There go days when i dont even look at the bike because i'm enjoying other hobbies.

#3 there are no meets in hamilton
#4 at least motogp is back this weekend!
#5 camping wouldn't be the same if i didn't ride there!

i swear its worse than heroin! i'm already starting to panic about winter... lol

What i did before may24th is no longer relevant because riding has taken over!

This may sound dumb, but is there such thing as a loaner motorcycle ? There are obviously loaner cars if a dealership is repairing your car for more than a day, so they give you one to ride around. What about motorcycles ? What if your motorcycle is your only method of transportation ? They must have something if they don't already.

simple
pick up the bike and ride it and keep eye on oil levels and add to it untill ur part comes in lol?

I'm in hamilton and I've got a 500 that you can borrow... it happens to be a super sketchy RZ500 two-stroke that I'm working on it. At some points, either 1, 2, 3 or 4 cyclinders could work...

It also has no body work mounted, and would be considered by some to be a death-trap...

On second thought, perhaps waiting it out would be safer.

I say you get your fix by purchasing a wag-jag groupon for indoor gas go-carting.

At this point next week i would take you up on that offer just to be on 2 wheels again!

Ask the dealer for a loaner bike.

I did, they do not have loaner bikes apparently...

....I know this is really evil but:

If you think this is bad, wait 'till "**** salt is on the road" starts.

The bike drained less oil than expected because it was losing oil from the leak behind the sprocket.

OP

You can ride the bike with the weeping seal. Just closely watch the oil level.

I bought a 2nd super cheap bike ($400) bike to work on :p That way I always have something to ride when one's in the shop.
