What did you do to your Race/Track Bike today - 2014

Yes, a very little bit. I talked at length with Sandy (Pro6) about this, and the cost of slicks vs DOTs wasn't worth the extra life you MIGHT see from slicks.

Interesting. Maybe my next set will be DOTs then. What do you think about DOTs on a damp track? I would never even go out on a damp track on slicks, and since I can't afford a second set of rims + rain tires at the moment, I worry that this might result in some DNSs for me this year. If I had DOTs on, would damp conditions (not "wet") be doable?

Pardon me for pitching in here (I don't have the necessary experience to take my word on this), just sharing what I've heard: rain tires are good only if there is rain, a.k.a. there is actual water on the track. Damp conditions: all the same for DOT or slick, as long as there are no puddles. If you don't have rain, but still have puddles, then DOT is the way to go. In case my information is right, then you'll be fine on the slicks in damp.

If the track is wet with standing water/damp with no dry line then rains are preffered but you could get away with DOT's on a damp track with no dry line, just tip toeing. Slicks with no dry line....no thanks and even with damp spots I'd opt for DOT's.

Not buyin it. I tried the Superbike Pros on a damp track once, did two laps then came back in to change my underwear. Under similar conditions street tires are very rideable (obviously). Trying to figure out where DOTs fall on that scale.

Great info, thanks. Has me leaning towards DOTs next time if I am still too broke to buy rims and rains when the time comes.

DOT race tires are crap in the wet. Like dricked said, tiptoe... Really, I wouldn't say they're any better than slicks. In Sandy's words, street tires are far better than DOT race tires on a wet track. Something like a Q3 would be way better than a D211 on a wet track. Especially if it's a cold wet track.

Spend wisely and smart.

Buying a used set of rains is better than having to fix your bike and yourself after you've binned it.

I don't own extra rims. Just make sure you are good at studying rain clouds in advance.

I had some guys running DOT tires during an endurance race with pretty much no dry line and lots of standing water and they were doing fine, fairly decent times for the conditions, I was in rain tires thank goodness

Shssss .... he is the rain Whisperer

You're only going to get $100 for a set of DOT take offs if they only have 30 laps or less on them.

The market has been flooded with sellers.

Slicks have ended up being cheaper for me than DOT due to never having to replace the KR106 front. Also, in regards to damp tracks, if you are riding on rain tires on a damp track (a track without any actual standing water) the tires will wear very quickly so I hope they weren't bought new. If you're using NEW rains, save them for actual rain. If you have a cheap used set of rains then by all means go destroy them on a damp track.

I would only use slicks as well, but there are people that like using DOTs for various reasons, one being the ability of selling them for x amount

Picked up the forks Z1 put the new Traxxion cartridges into. Brought home a Ohlins TTX shock for it as well. Time to start putting this bike back together :)

Ordered new bearing kits and dropped rims to be powder coated. One set green apple and one set candy blue which reminds me that i'm hungry!

Second set of rims with rain tires for sure - so much easier than guessing.

Continued working on GSXR Girl's track bike today. Put the airbox back on with a new air filer, oil change, coolant flush, cleaned the drive chain, installed GB Racing engine covers (stopped to eat some chips and get warm) and heading back out to put her bodywork back on. :)

Sounds like she's working you like a dog!!! Wouldn't your own track bike appreciate the loving' that much more?

There's a lot of work to be done and her bike was the easiest to get to. Now Gsxxy is parked against the wall and my dirty bike is in the work zone :)

Picked up rotors, xrac pads, full yosh, gb covers.another set of armour bodies and pitbull trailer restriants. Now the work begins.

I've been trying to fit my new 2 piece tail section on my zx10 for a few days now, probably a total of 6hrs.

Hotbodies, not even once!

"It's 1/2 the price, how bad can it be?". Bad enough that I want to smash it into bits.

Anything with a hot body is tight to fit in!
