What did you do in your garage today..?

I recall someone warning you the Euro trophy wives and Ducatis are sexy but high-dollar maintenance items.

I have a 74 Jawa Californian in the garage... 2-smoke, gentlemen's ride cool, dependable and simple to fix.

Trade?
While tempting, I'll pass.

There was one bike I wanted in the world from the old days...my grandfather had some OLD bike from the 60s or 50s that he took me out on rides when we visited.

I tried to buy it, but grandma sold it a decade prior and couldn't remember who bought it. And I wasn't planning on going through the village trying to find it.

I'll find a pic and post it. If I could find that bike...I'd ship it here in a heartbeat. But grandpa died 20+ years ago, grandma last year, and that bike is most likely in a heap of trash.

Character I wanted….character I got…effing he’ll. At least 20 fasteners to get to the air box (which was perfectly clean).

14mm hex, wtf…small filter was clean

Oil was black.

But oil changed, filter changed, and air filter kept the same as it was super clean…

Character…🤦🏻‍♂️
That's nothing.

I found the same clean as-new air filter on my KTM 1090.....After removing seat, side panels, small upper side panels, tank mask, and tank which involved closing 2 fuel valves, disconnecting 2 fuel lines, 2 vent lines and an electrical connection.

I didn't bother counting the fasteners, but I'm sure I would have ran out of fingers and toes pretty early on.

Maybe that's why they're so brand new after a few years of use...they never actually see air!

Although I was a little mystified

When I check the oil level there was nothing showing (after 2.5L put in). Then start the bike, oil level shows up. Turn bike off, oil level stays.

Put bike back on stand, straighten again, and no oil showing up.

I know I put in 2L, then fired it up (guess what idiot left an oil pan underneath the disconnected exhaust...fun), and then another 0.5L as it originally showed low.

I'll check again tonight, but should be good.

Ducati should be a wet sump and show right away. On the KTM you fill it then start it and it sucks it all away into the dry sump then fill it again to proper level.

I need to make it out your way soon to drop off the ODB that worked like a charm! I'll let you know and hopefully be able to ride out there instead of driving.

Yeah, I've forgotten to do stuff too.

On my 950 ADV I had to take both tanks off to access the airbox to access the carb so I could de-smog it. After a fairly long afternoon in the garage I got it all put it together and took it for a spin to fill it up in preparation for a bit of a ride the next day to a pesticide certification course.

On the way home after a rousing day of "don't do this!" instruction the bike sputtered to a stop at the side of the westbound 401, out of gas. I pushed it about a mile along the shoulder, fortunately mostly down grade to the Hwy. 28 off ramp to the gas station. I filled one of the gas tanks, opened the cap for the second and it was full.

I had forgotten to turn the fuel valve back on on the 2nd tank.

It was absolutely the last time it will ever happen.

Same experience getting to the "airbox" (Rottweiler open filter kit) on my 990 SMT. So much so that I left the 4 headlight surround panels off because I knew I'd be taking the tank off multiple times while diagnosing a few issues. Then there's trying to get the tank centered on the frame while reinstalling so that the tank panel holes line up. At least it has the CPC fuel line quick couplers like my 998, which I also installed on my Hawk.

I had forgotten to turn the fuel valve back on on the 2nd tank.

I've heard of some people putting a valved quick release in that line and leave the taps open. Also makes it easier to remove that line to remove the tank, since those pesky clamps don't seem to open very much when you put the pliers on them. Having this fun today as I remove the tank to install a new TPS.

I recall the experience with my SMT. They had an issue with tank deformation over time, at least some did. My 2012 seemed mostly fine but it was still a PITA remounting the tank.

Thankfully they rethought the air filter setup on the latest 1290 Adventure's and you get at them by taking out the 4 bolts holding the USB/phone cubby in front of the tank then just slide the air filter up and out. It's a 60sec process.

That's way better mine is a 3 hour job the tank has to come off and all the body work.

My airbox needs the rectifier removed, the trim, some oil coolers on both sides, and 8-10 tiny little screws....

I have a tiny little screwdriver set if you need to borrow one :)
Thanks! But it’s all together and there’s no reason to open that box again any time soon.

I’ve spent too much time the last few days watching YT on belt change and DESMO valve service.

I’m confident I can check them. Adjusting them is another story.

Here’s an idea. Get all the GTAM Desmo riders together for an amateur Desmo DIY service day. Buy the beer for @bitzz and @Wingboy to provide tech support. Take all your bikes apart, do the service, then go for a group ride!

I’ll come and film it for YouTube. Betcha it gets a million views in the first month.

Bitzz has probably forgotten more Ducati tech than i have known.

Can I come?

I recently got a GoPro for my bday. I need to justify the gift. I can provide another view angle for the YB.

Installed the windshield (finally) that I bought off @LBV! Let’s see if this makes any difference as wind is biggest gripe for me.

Adjusted my assembly on the left hand side to move the mirror up…I’m gonna start loving this bike if I’m not careful….

Hoping for the best results with that windshields. Emphasis on HOPE.

Sadly I don't think it will make much difference.

I can provide another lift if needed. Lol

The trailer that I will bring it on can also serve as the emergency tow service for those that fail the course and cannot put their bike back together.
