What did you do in your garage today..?

Finally finished changing the plugs. What a knuckle buster! Airbox back on tomorrow. Already for the next owner.

@Wingboy How many kms did you end up putting on that bike?

I messed up ordering the heated bed matt and the replacement I needed was another $60usd and 2-6 week lead time from China, and couldn't find it anywhere else. Plus I ran into a bunch of other fitment issues that I could fix but I'm so ****** off about the bed matt I've given up. Just going to tear it apart for spare parts.

Bought the Creality Ender 3 Max Neo. Will be here Saturday

This thing is awesome. Well worth the money

The first time I saw one I was excited that they added a big red e-stop button. Nope. Drawer handle. Boo. Drawer is appreciated but dammit, these things should come with e-stop.

I don't really see the need for an e-stop. Its so rare I've ever stopped a job mid print, even more rare that I'd have to do it so fast that using the menu would be too slow.

I'm a big fan of the drawer. This thing came with a bunch of allen keys and flat wrenches to adjust everything, and its a perfect spot for them. Also keep a pair of cutters in there.

I've done many things to mine that bring it closer to a neo (some better like double drawer but some not done yet like belt tensioners).

Imo estop should be on everything, especially when controlled by stupid controller with no feedback. Not that hard to crash the nozzle into the glass bed or have it crash into an x/y end stop and it just keeps moving until you go through a few layers of menus to shut it down and hope the bed/belt doesnt break (or fumble for the switch on the side but then you may need to deal with nozzle issues unless you force an immediate reheat). Its cheap and easy to add at the design stage and could easily disable all stepper motors. More expensive and harder to add to the finished product.

Back to my drawer project - fresh off the CNC router is this drawer front. This is the design I came up with for it, now that I see it I have some ideas for what pattern I would like better, but I only have so much oak so I'll live with it.

I want to fill in the grooves with black epoxy, but thinking maybe just black paint and a bunch of polyurethane because I have that in the garage already.

Do the black epoxy. I've done this and with your design it would look amazing.

Split a set of cases and this little dried up fellow fell out. IMG_0362.jpg

Pretty sure these were holed by valves coming loose. After the "event" someone drilled holes into the tops of the pistons for some reason but the big holes are for real. How often would more than one valve let go at once?
I can't know the real story as I bought like this as part of a cheap auction lot. (Paid off because now I'm stealing tranny bits.....)IMG_0335.JPG

If timing got off, it's not hard to break a few valves. Or a money shift.

That will buff right out.

That holed motor has serious stories to tell. Beyond the serious valve issue and acting as a sarcophagus for an amphibian, there's more. Turns out before the big bang it had the little bang. A not uncommon collision between the case and Mr Chain. It's been repaired with JB weld. Judging by the workmanship I think a blind man did it with a rake.
Would really love to have a beer with whoever owned the bike it was in.
In case your keeping score at home, so far I've salvaged the NEEDED bearing, better shift dogs and the primary chain tensioner.

This is what I WILL be doing in my garage.
