What are you getting your significant other for xmas?

Started seeing a girl literally like a month ago only....not even my gf yet....I'm in that awkward phase where I feel I SHOULD probably get her something small. Probably under like $50. No idea what though.

Herpes..

Sprockets and a Chain

Been two years now.

Gonna get her a Kitchenaid Mixer.

It makes you feel really bad when you know you can't reciprocate because you barely make enough to get by. I do like getting gifts, but it does make me feel pretty crappy since I end up getting them nowhere near the same amount.

The volume and price are not what is important, although we all at some time feel that little nagging thought. The industry of Marketing does this too us. It is the idea and thought that matters, and more importantly just being there, listening and being honest.
One of my best presents was years ago when my little sister made something for me. it beat any bought thing I have received to date for any occassion.

Gifts are like friends, quality of thought is more important than quantity. I'd rather have a few real friends than lots of fake friends.

i have one. love it. one thing, get one size bigger than you think she needs.

Best advice ever on a kitchenaid mixer , the basic machine is the "CBR125" of mixers , they make 5 models, get the most power you can justify and afford. If shes a serious cook, it will get used.

We've been together 3 years this past November.

"Slippers and a dildo....why the dildo? so if she doesnt like the slippers she can go **** herself!!"

LOL, but in all seriousness, this whole "surprise" gift is kinda stupid...why buy a stupid gift she may or may not like...

So i asked her for a list of things she wants and i picked one. She wants the Type R spoiler for her RSX, shes been drooling over it for a while so i said sure.

What she doesnt know is that i'm also buying her a painting reproduction she eyeballed last week and thinks i didnt see her do it.

Also i got her a playbook when they went on sale, but thats kinda a mutual present. I get to use it too.

I prefer cold, hard cash as my gift. Nothing says "I love you" like the ability to pay off the CC and bills faster.

My partner is pretty anti-gift, doesn't believe in them. Normally I still get him something small but this year I am thinking of not bothering.

The two of us are heading to Europe for most of the month of March, that will probably be our gift to each other.

I dont understand anti gift people, gifts are supposed to be fun, how can someone be anti-fun?
I get that some stress so much over getting the right thing, over spending, spending themselves into serious CC debt, and trying to not buy somebody crap they dont need.
I find C'mas gift shopping pretty simple, listen to people all yr, everybody mentions something they would like every month. Every hobby or interest has 12,000,000 accessories to go with it.

Revrandy, enjoy Europe. So much to see there, I cant wait to go back. Centuries of history, awesome food, excellent reasonable wine....... twinges of jealousy...

Sears had the Pro 600 on sale last week for $350 (don't know if it is still on or not). That is Kitchenaids best mixer and will not disappoint (and that price is amazing, even the super sketchy refurb stores have trouble getting below $350). The biggest problem with it is it doesn't like doing tiny batches (i.e. whipping 2 egg whites probably won't work). The Pro600 is the only kitchen aid mixer with metal gears and gear box, the cheaper ones use plastic and when you are making dough they can tear themselves apart (~$150 for a new gearbox).

I have been there probably a dozen times, he has never been - hence Europe. (My preference was Bali - next trip). The bulk of our time will be spent touring Turkey. We are renting a car and driving around as well as spending a week in Instanbul.

if breadmaking is on the list, get the PRO600. All the lesser models have a plastic gear housing to hold the metal gears in place, they toque load and shift in position and tear themselves apart. This is why you can find Kitchenaid mixers sold at refurb stores. They never used to fail.
A good alternative right now is the Cuisinart stand mixer, all metal housings and gears. It was the Kenwood (europe) , the Delongi and may have been the sears, but now packaged and sold as Cuisinart. Good machine when on sale.

The Hobart N5, the mother of all stand mixers, is the real deal but you need to go to a restaurant supply company to buy one. And sell a kidney. Hobart sold off the Kitchenaid brand to Whirlpool years ago , they have spent the last 20 years making it cheaper and cheaper. They keep promising the public it will go back to all metal in all models but who knows. If you get a chance to buy an OLD one grab it, it will outrun any current model.

been married 17 years.....imo Christmas is for the kids (talking nieces and nephews here cause we don't have kids)....and to buy something nice/useful for the parents on either side.....aside from that it's more about getting the family together and having a good feast...

in the early years we'd have a budget for each other....but throughout the years we typically buy what we want and need...and plan accordingly for big purchases...so splurging at xmas time just seems like a bit of a waste to me

I may come off as scrooged-out but I really don't want or need a bunch of surprise gifts that end up as dust collectors....and I hate blowing large on surprise gifts that may not be liked or used as much as I thought...just a waste of money that could go towards bigger things that we're planning and there's lots of that going on

now....my sweet little wife says she likes opening a little something on xmas morning...but it's not happening this year because from March through Sept on the house we've done a seriously high-end kitchen reno with an open-concept deal on the entire front half of the house....all new stainless appliances....quartz counters...crazy expensive backsplash, porcelain floor tiles...pot-lights....under-cabinet lights....wall-mounted oven, in-counter cook-top, custom front hall closet (shelves for her 50 pairs of shoes...drawers etc)...replaced every mainfloor window with new casements and new window coverings on 50% of the new windows....had to get custom furniture made for the new spaces.....and due to a leak in the roof half way through the reno...I popped for a stone-coated steel roof with a 50-year guarantee so I won't have to do another......it wasn't a surprise and it wasn't wrapped up and placed under the tree but that better be good enough cause I've grown very tired of spending buckos this year

What about donating money to something as a gift for the two of you? Sponsor a child or something? Its a gift for everyone at that point.

Have fun on your trip!
