Weather

I’m tired of this ****.
You and me both. My wife is from BC, and so instinctively starts putting winter gear away at the end of February, which results in my annual lecture about how you're not safe until May, and even then. But this year, I'm very ready for it to be over now.

I was also pining for a return to 'real' winters, especially after the wet Vancouver-style winter we had last year. I got my wish, but as is typical with that kind of thing, am not so happy about it now. Careful what you wish for, etc.

Maybe it's because we've had a few teaser days in the high teens and low twenties, but this latest freezer blast feels downright unfair...

Meh I still don't believe this was a real winter. No snow in Jan, or very little. The only real snow was in Feb for like maybe 2 weekends. Then that was it. At least in the city. Now it's this lingering nonsense, which is most likely lake effect snow as the water warms up. Still sucks, boo, go away!

Wow! You set the bar high. I put over 800kms on my sled this year (it's a vintage sled - for me that's lots) which is more than probably the last 4 or 5 winters combined.

That said, yeah I'm done it's time to ride. Buddy always has a birthday bash around the middle of April. He lives near the Ganny. Saturday we ride. Saturday night we retire to the Jam hall or bonfire for tunes and festivities. Depending on weather/conditions it's either dirtbikes in the Ganny or travellin' gravel on the KLRs. Just got the email - still snow on the north side of hills and a fear that the recent ice storm will have the trails littered downed trees. It's a KLR ride.

Beds are limited. I may even get a chance to test my new sleeping bag.

The silver lining for this weather is enjoying the hot tub. The missus doesn’t enjoy the wind or rain but, clear and cold the tub is a great way to melt away the winter blues. It’s no substitute for riding but, it helps!

We have one. The spa pack suffered a rapid unscheduled thermal disassembly a few years ago and it has been idled since. Although I enjoyed it, my wife pretty much would never use it in any sort of cool weather, and only occasionally in the warmer months, so it really didn’t seem to make sense anymore to keep it running given the not insignificant daily energy costs.

Last night was not a hot tub night up here. Wind was probably pushing 80 km/h and blasting snow around. Some branches were breaking off and dropping like spears in a medieval battle. The neighbours pool cover got hit. Went through the safety cover, through 1/4" of ice and about 3' deep into the water before it stopped.

My wife rarely uses the hot tub in the cold. She uses it more in the summer. I am the opposite.

I’m working in Northern Ontario, it’s been friggin’ cold for the last week. -20 in the mornings is still a daily occurrence, we’re still on sleds as the snow in the bush and on logging roads is too deep for ATVs. 22” of snow in the last 7 days.

My lawn has 3’ cover, the snowbanks on driveways are 5-7’.
