We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Not shooting but probably the same crowd
Anyone else like kukri's?
Reliks in London had a fair price on cold steels kukri plus in 3V steel and with the posties screwing up shipping i decided to just drive up on Saturday.
Nice being able to check the grind lines before buying gotta love brick and mortar shopping.
Got the thing home and its a beast of a chopper there just is something about edged tools.
With all the aggravations associated with firearm ownership these days edged tools collecting is looking better and better.
Now I'm shopping custom kydex sheath makers for something more fitting of that blade than OEM.

This is so stupid...
Here i am AGAIN moving ANOTHER gun from my "main" vault to my secondary full of "banned" stuff since I can't use it any more and I don't need ready access... Plus, seeing it every time I open the door to grab anything else will just give me a sad. :(

Well, at least I have memories of past competitions to reflect on.
What's that saying..?
Don't be sad it's over, Be glad it happened...

That rifle got locked up after the first OIC,,, 'Hasn't seen the light of day for 3 years or so.
the shotgun is still good to go (for now) and the pistol I still use on the regular (for now)
Ironically this saved me a bit of cash since I was waiting to pounce on a H&K G36 clone since forever.

That's one way to look at it... I guess I'm saving money too by not travelling to matches (that pic was taken in Kentucky USA) and burning ammo.

Good lord , I looked at the shotgun only , missed the other weapons in tow and thought WTF? When did 12g start hitting the list . You scared me !

I’d love to see a roll back on this , the millions spent on this so far will leave a sour taste in my mouth for a long time
. This has been one of the longer boondoggles in the making . We’ve beaten this conversation to death , but my neighbor, who is on the provincial police handgun task force says , until we close the US border completely, handgun offences in Canada will not go down. You could make it a mandatory ten yrs and crooks don’t care . This is from the mouth of a law officer

For me, it's not about the money wasted.
It's the unadulterated bs and lies spouted by this govt.
Targeting arguably the most law abiding citizens while doing absolutely nothing to address the actual problem.
They say their policies are evidence based and then come up with schemes 180° contrary to the evidence.

I'm telling you though, "if" these OICs are repealed... I'll be a pretty happy guy.

So should every other citizen that isn't a crazy zealot. A normal non-gun owning citizen should be happy that we don't spend $1000/citizen (or more) on this. A gun owner should be happy for obvious reasons. The ban all guns people won't be happy but they will never be happy and don't live in reality. Whether or not OIC exists has very very close to zero impact on criminals.

If legal gun safety is an area requiring additional measures (and I'm not convinced it is), requiring secure out-of-sight storage would be a much more reasonable approach imo. As it is, a locked windowed wooden display case is ok even though the guns are accessible without keys in seconds.

Most gun owners go above and beyond what the storage regulations say. As written, storage rules are pretty lax especially those pertaining to non restricted firearms. I suppose one could argue that stealing a gun is already illegal so... Why have any storage regulations?
Common sense dictates we lock up our guns for the same reason we lock our car doors and keep valuables hidden and/or locked away.

The other problem with the storage regulations is how vague they are and how "secure" isn't really defined.
I know of one guy who had his firearms in what was basically a bank vault. It took thieves two days to torch it open and make off with a number of guns... Yet the victim of this crime was charged with "unsafe storage"...
Reasoning being... "Well, if they were able to steal your guns they must not have been properly stored".

Of course the charge was dismissed in court, but we found it funny that around the same time there were stories in the media about police officers "losing" or having firearms stolen from them. Of course... No mention of any charges.

"Secure" could be quite easily defined but it is politically complicated. You could require UL RSC or better for safes but that exceeds the rating of most gun safes that people already have which are unrated. The more realistic line is much harder to define (roughly 12ga steel container with no visibility inside and multi-point locking). As I described it, a filing cabinet meets the definition which is clearly inadequate. Vaults or DIY safes add complication as well as it is a built on site product. If they required TL15 or greater, many gun owners would decide to move on as storage prices and complications start to climb quickly (TL15 for long guns would be north of $10K new and over 3000 lbs).

As for your buddy, police laying crap charges should be charged with waste of public resources as well as PSA charges. No vault or safe is secure against time and competent attackers. Even if you had a TXTL, they only need 10 oz of explosives to open it. I don't know anyone with a TXTL in their house.

'Fortunately unsafe storage charges rarely stick. In a way the vague nature of the regs are a help. If one can articulate the steps one took to safely store their guns to a "reasonable" judge, one can usually escape a conviction.

Unsafe storage seems to accompany a bunch of other charges from what I read . Unless it’s the bonus charge you get once your house has been robbed and a few guns have gone astray , because of criminals . Under the current law , if I lock my truck , a gun inside is secure . Unless the truck is stolen with a gun on the back seat . Then I can be charged , because of criminals . And the expense is on me .

First IPSC match of 2025 done today... Second IPSC match of 2025 tomorrow :)
Of course the "sorta/kinda" resignation of JT is a big topic of conversation at the range these days...
All sorts of speculation as to the future of shooting sports in Canada...
