We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Range report

I was expecting rain when I got up this morning and grabbed my gear.

It turned out to be a nice day.

600M range.

16 shooters plus the RO. 13 civilian. .30 Cal shoot.

We started at the 100M. I was zeroing a scope on my R-25 and re zeroing the SL-8

The towers on the R-25 meant up was down (as opposed to the SL-8 where up was up) so I wasted the first 10 rounds going the wrong way and coming back.

The next 5 rounds walked me just above center and I hit 3/5 where she needed to go on the next round. All in all I got luck in that the scope was pretty much center so I can shim it vertically and be almost at factory scope 0. The eye relief isn't right for prone so I have to figure that out. I can adjust my LOP and comb without dismounting the scope so it will get better.

The SL-8 just needed to come down 6 clicks (ballistic plex).

Got another 60 rounds off from the 200 and 300 prone, sitting and standing with the R-25 and 20 with the SL-8 to see the drop which matches the reticule in the scope.

300M

The SL-8 falls right in the middle of my R-25 and AR-15. It's 20 inch barrel, nice rifle ergos and smooth trigger make it a 100-250M gun. Basically picking up the end of the 15's range and falling off where the 25 is best. ~300M

Decided to leave it at that. I have the Zero and fall off of both rifles so I can write up my scope cards for them.

Cleaning time....

Those are sexy

They are sooo smooth to shoot too! No recoil, very quiet. I think I put a few thousand rounds through it without any cleaning or maintenance, never a jam, misfire, nothin. German quality right there!

Re: Range report

Nice setup, thanks for the range report. Looked like a blast. I'll probably be hitting the Pet this fall for a CQB clinic. Not getting into precision just yet (definitely planned)

Is that with the Funker Tactical crew?

I know Ryan from that squad quite well. Medic (maybe Ex-Medic now) from Pet.

Ryan is Ex-medic now I'm pretty sure.

CQB is a blast, you'll enjoy!

I wrote up my own little ballistics chart since I shoot 55gr and my scope was designed for 95 with my rifle. Included fall off and drift with a certain amount of wind at 90 degrees, so when I get to a spot I take a look at what my situation is and compare to the card so that I'm good to go.

Last time I talked to him he was saying he was getting out and putting more effort into FT. Good guy. I knew him before he got in and ran into him a few times on the job including one random encounter in Afghanistan.

Guess he got tired of looking at balls on morning sick parade. :)

Was supposed to be with www.tacticalteacher.ca (iirc the name's Barney) Well-reviewed on CGN, but currently got nothing posted on CQB.. I'll have to contact him and confirm as I thought he was gonna do something in October-November. Otherwise, I'll look into going with Ryan.

Re: Range report

Do you guys have contact info for Ryan? All I see is a textbook page, no website, video channels, but no phone number, schedule or price list.

Re: Range report

I'm not sure exactly how they run their stuff to tell the truth as I have never shot with them. It may be that the instructors they use and shoot with are actually something else outside of FT.

info@funkertactical.com would be the best way to gfet ahold of them and ask who runs CQB classes.

I never got into the "gravel group" from Pet as it wasn't around when I was there.

Re: Range report

Thanks for the info. E-mailed and we'll see what comes up.

Re: Range report

Full Spectrum Gear up here does training as well. The owner came out to our CQB week to assist in the training.

Thanks for the heads up. No training is mentioned on their site, so I assume they do it on a con$$$ulting basis. Gonna have to talk to our rifle director as he's active in the ORA. This would also speed up my Shadow purchase.

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

Anyone know a website to find used guns for sale locally ish?

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

The pricing is often out to the same lunch as GTAM Classifieds, so while I do take the occasional look, I typically just buy my guns new. Full manufacturer's warranty, no headaches.

Me too but he asked about used guns

Re: We know you ride, but do you Shoot?

Thanks. Yeah just took the course yesterday so I have a couple months to wait but thought I would take a look around. Looking for a mossberg 500 or similar and they are really cheap new so no point in buying something like that second hand
