Wasp almost killed me!

Anyone else ever have a wasp or other insect try to kill them? I was cruising on my 81 Honda Silverwing when a wasp flew into my helmet. I was wearing a full face mask and sunglasses. I accidentally broke the visor off of my helmet the day before so I was riding without the visor. So anyway, as I'm riding, I see something fly right past my eyes and into the side of my helmet. It was stuck between my helmet and my head. I could feel it flapping its wings and walking in circles around my temple. It was stuck and I was going about 70km/hour. I was terrified of getting stung. I geared down the bike as fast as I could and pulled over to the side of the road. I frantically took off my sunglasses and helmet. As soon as I looked into my helmet, this killer wasp flew out at my face. It scared me so much, I dropped my helmet and sunglasses and almost dropped my bike. It took all the strength I had to pull it back up before it crashed to the ground. When I got the bike up and put the kickstand down, I picked up my helmet and sunglasses. I sat there and thought to myself, "did anybody see that?" if they did, that was probably the funniest 30 seconds of their life. I know it was the craziest 30 seconds of my life! lol. So, did a bug ever try to kill you while riding your bike?

Had a wasp fly into my jacket and sting my neck while riding.

This stuff is scary...I had a bee sting me when I was kid so I get all freaked out now when I see one...Crazy if it happens on a bike going at speed. I don't care how tough you claim yourself to be, that's one scary $H**!

I thought a rock hit my helmet once, until I saw the wasp walking across the INSIDE of my visor. I almost fainted, but was able to keep it under control until I pulled over and removed my helmet! I think he went through the vent and made it all the way into the helmet, alive! Freaky.

had one bounce off my visor down the back of my jacket.. i pulled my shoulders tight so it couldnt fly around in there (seemed logical at the time) and hammered the gas so i could pull over.. got off the bike tore my jacket off and it flew away... couldnt believe i didnt get stung.

There's something primal about bee and wasp stings that will freak most people out. Last wasp sting was in the armpit, of all areas, yes it hurt. Second last was one SOB wasp that landed on my back and stung me 3 or 4 times before I could manage to reach it and kill it. Needless to say..........., I'm not a big fan of wasps.

Had almost the exact same thing happen to me on one of those 80kmh rds north of Toronto. I wear a full face, but always take the visor out because I prefer some open air on my face when riding (otherwise, what's the point? might as well be in a car!).

Had a bee or wasp in my helmet. I thought I killed it on impact, when all of a sudden I felt a massive pain on the side of my head. I was doing 90 or so so it was fun trying to keep my head clear enough to ride. After a minute it subsided enough that it merely hurt a fair bit and I rode home. My biggest worry was that I'd never been stung before, so I had no idea if I was allergic or not. No one was around, so if I'd have started puffing up or something that would have been interesting.

On the plus side, I learned I'm not allergic to bee stings. ;)

I think I would be able to quickly recognize the situation, accept the pain of the stings that were about to come and just stay calm, focused and pull over safely. But last year when 2 huge dragonflies that were mating in mid-air smashed into my face after I had just flipped the visor up and I could feel them flapping and freakin'out on either side of my face I immediately had thoughts of just jumping off and trying to get the helmet off as I skidded to a halt!!!
I effin' hate dragonflies!!!
How the **** do people ride with open face helmets?!?!

Well, I have big, thick glasses, which helps. LOL.

I had a bee fly up my sleeve and sting my arm as I tried to stay stay calm and pull over. Another time a large insect, thankfully not a bee flew into my helmet while I was riding with the visor slightly cracked open. But short of a bird, a junebug can give you quite a welt on your leg, and a shock if one whacks your visor.

Last time I was out on a long ride I actually thought a bird **** on my face. Turned out it was just a very juicy bug. Ugh!

This same thing happened to me... I managed to remain calm, slow down open the visor, and away he went

Something similar happened to me when I went for a ride up North last week... In a section where I had to cross a narrow bridge (1 lane), I was going maybe 60 and felt something hit my neck. Couple seconds later, the little bugger stung me. I pulled off cause I noticed that my neck was stinging like a ***** and it was turning red.

I sucked it up and thought to myself, I'll just continue on even though it stings a bit. 5 mins later, it felt like it was burning and the stinging feeling got worse and a lump started forming.

Pulled off again, and thought to myself... ****... I hope I'm not allergic to whatever stung me. After chilling at a McD's for about 10 mins, I felt that I was good to continue heading home. Was pretty damn uncomfortable ride back but 2 1/2 hours later, I got home and squeezed the **** out of that spot hoping to get the stinger/venom out. A few hours after that, I was good.

End of story xD

Have had a couple of hornet hits, neck one time between the eyes another and cheek. Always carry Benadyl. Just remember a bee can only sting you once but the others can hit multiple times.

Being allergic - I carry Benadryl too, and have used them on more than one occasion after being stung when riding. I fully understand the panic and pain when stung. Allergic reactions can be fatal. While local swelling is the norm, a break out of hives should get you thinking about a hospital visit. Monitor the reaction as it could lead to difficulty breathing and in that case hightail it to emergency. Go to the front of the line and say you can't breath because of a bee sting and they should take you right away. The bottom line is to remain as calm as possible when bringing the bike to a safe stop. Just one more of the obstacles we as riders face. I'd take a bee sting over a Mac truck any day.

Last week I had a bee explode on my forehead when I decided to lift my visor to adjust my glasses....typical.

On my bicycle, I once had a dragonfly go straight up the arm of my shirt and get stuck in my armpit. It was one of the most unpleasant things I have ever felt.

Had almost the same thing happen to me in Quebec, was doing around 110 km/hr and a hornet flew out the forest, across the road as I was approaching. Felt like I was targeted well in advance, took less than a third-of-a second for this bugger to sting me in a small open section of my neck as I was wearing rain suite with a tight grip all around..

I've had a similar experience recently but with a bee. Was riding along 35 toward Dorset when I got hit in the face (I typically have my visor up) by some bug...thought nothing of it except 'man I remember some guys saying a bee got in their helmet...glad this one died on impact!' That's when I felt the little SOB start wriggling and try to sting me but he was right b/w my face and padding so couldn't move. I pulled over on the gravel as fast as I could and ripped my helmet off. Not cool...but I didn't learn my lesson because I still ride with my visor up when I'm not on the 400 series.
