VW Warranty nightmare!

If I were to boil down the biggest problem with any vehicle ownership, I'd say it's the dealership service department. Most products are pretty good these days, but if you end up at a bad dealer, they'll either milk you or break stuff trying to fix something else. I always make it a point to find out which dealerships have good service advisors as well as which mechanics are good, and only deal with them when I have to.

thats a topic for another thread entirely.

there ARE good dealers out there, you just have to work real hard to find them.

most are crooks, thats my short answer from my experience.

For Honda, go to Halton Honda, excellent mechanics that know their stuff and do the job right.

For Acura, go to Oakville Acura, same as above.

Ok, the sad VW saga continues…

Finally after 18 mos VW approved the claim in May this year. Their warranty body shop is Stans power Paint in Markham. They called 3 weeks ago, told us to bring in the car immediately. When we got there, they said they didn’t have the parts yet - come back in a week. The next week we brought the cat in for a quoted 3 day repair. After 2 weeks the hadn’t started the repair.

Finally my daughter picked up her car today. When she got home I checked the repair, all they did was spray undercoating over the 5” hole in the rocker panel.

The kid works 2pm to 2am at Sick Kids, had to UBER home 10 days at 15/day then finds out the didn’t fix the car.

VW - beware. Mad Mike is stepping in. And he’s really mad.

******** it is stuff like this that keeps me far away from VW products I would be tempted to file a fraud report with the police against the body shop. Also make sure corporate gets involved the probably paid a good chunk of change to have this fixed and are being swindled as well. This won't be the first rip off from Stan's just the first time they got caught in the act.

Sent using a thumb maybe 2

This is where its going to get exciting.

I'm tuned in now..... 🍿🍿🍿

..............................................

Sorry that your daughter has to go through this, and that you are now dragged into this.

I am sure you know your share of good body shops if needed.

But if you need a good one, let me know. I have a friend who runs a body shop in Milton. Top quality.

Wow that is utter bullcrap...

I love my sportwagen (mainly because its the only non-luxury station wagon available in the past decade) and i don't enjoy the handling of SUV/CUV ...and ideally i don't want to lower a higher up car as i don't do this kinda stuff anymore lol. But for hauling 2 kids and a dog and camping gear, this car does it awesome and is relatively fun to drive.

But this type of story makes me want to stay away from the brand. It's ridiculous that you could treat someone you call a "customer" that way. (Even if you don't take into consideration the 2+ years lead time) and if it was just your daughter she probably wouldn't be bother to handle this type of stuff with her schedule. Un-believable

They weren't doing much worse things than the rest, they just got caught. Every manufacturer has their issues no matter how rose coloured the glasses are.

I believe this was on a whole different level.

Scary part is, if they didn't get caught, they'd still be peddling their stinky "clean" diesels or likely a next generation of it to this day.

there would have been that many more polluting cars unnecessarily on this planet. Thats baaaaad. Sad actually,

As someone who is currently deciding between a Subaru WRX and Volkswagen GTI, this is certainly influencing that decision…..

Sounds more like the body shop pulling a fast one on VW Warranty Dept. and the customer getting caught in the middle to me. I’d bet money VW paid for and thinks they received a proper repair.

Well, Subaru's are not any better in terms of rust - Subaru Invites You to Feel the Freedom (Of No More Body Panels)

My sister is on her 2nd Outback, the first one had the windshield crack 3 times before the dealer just replaced the car with some extra $$$ on top. Now, on the new one, less than a year in it's cracked twice already. Apparently from flex in the body. My bro just got an Impreza, great value, though paint is no match for a VW or German Car, ask detailers, Subbies are very soft and chip by looking at them.

I feel for the OP, it's a real shame. Lots of brands can have issues. Co-worker has a Camry that he is getting rid of due to the tranny gone, Toyota tried to replace it under warranty, problem still there, they told him it's in his head now. He is selling it.

We grew up with only Japanese cars, and now other than an F-150 (which is a rust bucket), now all German. On our second Tiguan, and 3rd Golf. The first gen Tiguan had lots issues, the VW stepped up and changed the manifolds three times, even when out of warranty as goodwill.

Other than the MK3 Golf we had, none have had any rust issues, other than where the paint has chipped.

So if you sway from a GTI, do it cause of the AWD, not this.

Lots of dealerships (and to be fair, independents as well, both car sales and repairs) willingly take advantage of the uninitiated.

Their worst enemy (or biggest fear, depending on how you look at it) is an informed consumer who is assertive and not afraid to stand up for themselves.

I'm that person. Treat me well, I am a great no nonsense stand up guy who will be your best customer.

Try to wrong me, rip me off, take me for a ride, of think you're pulling a fast one on me, and I'll be your worst ******* enemy you wish had never walked through the door in no time flat. If it's something minor I'll politely give you the opportunity to make it right beforehand, but openly mess with me with nonsense like this post....watch out.

Interpret it however you want. I'm just not a sheep when it comes to being a consumer.

Go read my story on my current Volt and how the purchase went sideways.

It didn't go well for them. I'm not the "screaming obsceneties on the showroom floor" type of person, I'm just a persistent sort who will remind them of their legal requirements and obligations.

Pretty sure my photo is still on the managers office wall at that place.

Dealerships LOVE people who don't stand up for themselves. Extra fees for nonsensical BS, fees for stupid anti theft "window engraving" you didn't ask for, rust protection they insist you need but is just a profit driver for them (and really not that good), and then lets not even fix/repair/deliver the car as promised.
