VW deisel?? wtf...

Some people aren't good at math. A true half ton is 1000 pounds. That is 4-5 average guys or 3 "Bubbas"

If someone wants to borrow your "Half ton" to pick up some sand or gravel do they know that it can only load it 3-4 inches deep.

half ton has been a nickname since the 30's , my "half ton" F150 will carry a payload of 1,600 lbs.

I hauled a load of old broken-up asphalt to the landfill a couple of years back in my "3/4 ton". The loaded asphalt chunks were piled up right to the top of and even slightly over the top of the box.

It scaled in at 2,700 pounds, almost a ton and a half. I was surprised that the truck frame didn't fold in half until I looked up the actual spec for the truck and found that I could have piled it on a bit more and still been within the truck's limits of 3,200 load capacity (me included).

Trial and error is another way to establish max load capacity.

years ago in high school my part time job was driving a tow truck, between misinterpretation of "payload" for pickups and tent trailers converted to cargo trailers, no other revenue stream was required.

"Ton" designations for trucks are just names, not specifications.

Did you know featherweight boxers weigh more than a feather? Friggin boxers can't do math!!!

You guy might have come across VW's solution to this mess; the 8000 lbs GVWR Golf TDI.

LOL Now there's a thought! Bump that GVWR up past 8500 lbs so that it goes into the truck category!

I just checked the label on my Ram ProMaster "1500": 3887 lbs cargo plus passengers (so that GVWR is just over 8500 lbs)

But you also need to keep it under 4500kg then it's considered a "light duty diesel". Above 4500kg is a "heavy duty diesel" and the emissions tests are more thorough.

Ask me in person someday if you'd like to know how I got my 06 F250 with a Bulletproofed 6.0L, EGR delete and a 4" Magnaflow turbo-back exhaust through an e-test.

Yesterday, vw acknowledged 2016 TDI models have the cheat as well. So, anyone with an order may as well look elsewhere. They won't get released to the dealer anytime soon. What a bloody mess.

I'll have mine for another year or so and I suspect vw won't be on the list of company vehicles to choose from for my work.

That's what the media is saying, but from what I can gather, this new "auxiliary emission control device" is the cold-start warm-up strategy ... something which every car has. I think VW originally failed to understand the meaning of that phrase and is now going through their emission control logic and disclosing EVERYthing that affects how it works. There will be a delay while this gets reviewed but this is not the same as the original "cheat" logic.

Reports from Europe suggest, that good old customer oriented VW, tried to make the fix implementations voluntary for the current owners, but the German ministry agency didn't go for that and made it clearly a mandatory fix ... Too bad, but they get full marks from me for trying ... LOL

I am holding out to see what the conditions are. I expect you need to give up future legal rights in exchange for the $1000.

Email from VW (this is the 3rd email and there have been at least 2 snail mail apology letters):

Dear Volkswagen Owner,

You may have received a communication from me a few weeks ago regretfully confirming that according to our records your 2.0L TDI Volkswagen is one of those with discrepancies in its engine software. As I’ve expressed before, we are truly sorry for this situation.

We are working with all appropriate government regulators to find answers and solutions for affected vehicles. Although solutions are not yet finalized we currently anticipate there will be different remedies for affected vehicles based upon the generation of the diesel engine. We will be in touch as soon as we have more information to share with you.

Very shortly, Volkswagen Canada will be offering Owners of affected TDI vehicles an Owner Credit Package as a gesture of goodwill for your continued patience.

In order to ensure we get details of this offer to you as soon as it launches simply visit www.vwemissionsinfo.ca to input your VIN number and update your contact information. Or, check back to www.vwemissionsinfo.ca periodically over the coming days using your vehicle’s VIN number. Otherwise, as soon as this Owner Credit Package is available we will re-contact you at this same email address.

Please also remember that Environment Canada and the U.S. EPA have verified the safety of your vehicle is not impacted, only its emissions are affected. You can absolutely continue to drive your vehicle while we work to develop a remedy.

Thank you again for your continued patience – you are a valued member of the Volkswagen community in Canada. We’ll be in touch again soon.

Sincerely,

Maria Stenström
President & CEO

Is that just for the hassle or is it "here's $1000 for the car the government won't let you put on the road until you get it fixed?

I had the "recall" done about 2 months ago where they replaced an exhaust valve, the DPF and re-flashed the computer obviously now everyone knows this recall was to try to actually meet the emissions issue.

Unfortunately I has seen a decrease in mileage of about 100km per tank.

I've seen a decrease in mileage but I think it's due to winter diesel and switch over to winter tires.

My recall earlier this year was for a reflash for emissions update but didn't seem to affect performance or mileage. And the recall was before stuff hit the fan.

Haven't received anything from the dealer or VW since.......

Mind you my vehicle is owned by a leasing company based in Quebec so, not being the registered owner, I have to wait for anything to come from the leading company.

They don't even know yet, or publicly announced, how they intend to fix the vehicle variety affected (worldwide), so I cannot see how the work on your vehicle had anything to do with the EPA notice or defeat device in general. If that's what the dealer was telling you, found quickly another dealer, because this one doesn't seem to have a clue.

BTW, replacing exhaust flapper valve is frequent problem, cracked DPF's requiring premature replacement infrequent, but definitely known. Re-flash the computer ... that could mean anything, but definitely nothing to do with the EPA notice.

Waiting to see what VW of Canada will come up with. I hope they will not disregard the 25% points difference between USD and CAD. I bet that's what their calculators are doing these days and why the Canadian offer has not been out yet ... how much less can we afford to give the Canadians vs. American customers ... i hope I am wrong and they will do the right thing in this abysmal PR disaster.
