My family has owned several VW's (2 golfs myself 2002 and 2004).
I love VW's because it's a viable diesel option (other than a truck). I will likely not buy a gas vehicle again.
But it's a love hate relationship. My first golf was a lemon. Everything broke on this vehicle including the front axle (snapped in 2 when I was reversing out of a parking spot). Of course everything is replaced on warranty but it felt very unreliable to me.
My second golf (2004) was amazing and nothing ever went on it (payback for the lemon before?). I sold the car when I moved to England but I kick myself all the time for that decision. It was a solid vehicle and I wish I'd been able to hang onto it.
