Virus caused rogers to suspend my internet..... Any help?

Highly doubt, almost 100% sure that they cannot diagnose what kind of virus is on your computer from their side. I call BS.

If you were notified by e-mail by Rogers suspending your service it could be hackers using a spoofed e-mail address (yes it is possible) and you should read up on this and consider it as a possibility.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denial-of-service_attack

If you were contacted by phone, then it really is them and they blocked your connection or your friend is trolling you.

A "Bot Net Drone" is NOT a type of virus. It's describing what his computer now is. A BotNet is a collection of computers infected with malware that are used by a third party remotely in things like spam, phishing, DDOS attacks, etc. The term Drone is self explanatory.

Download Malwarebytes onto a USB drive from a clean computer (i.e. one that is NOT on your home network). Run Windows in Safe Mode, let the program do its thing.

Aah, been a while since I was in to hacking. I was familiar with Bot Net but not "Drone". I would refer to those as either bots or slaves =P

I hope for RandomHero's sake that Malwarebytes detects the virus, otherwise it'll be a ***** to detect/get rid of.

^This. Most likely a DDOS attack. Rogers probably picked up millions of pings coming from your IP and cut your service assuming your machine is part of a bot net. Malwarebytes is awesome but I wouldn't even bother at this point. Backup your personal stuff, re-install OS then run virus/malware scans on your backed up files.

If malwarebytes doesn't do it (it can't detect rootkits and a bunch of other types of infections) then combofix sure will.

Cool story bro. You don't have to reply with nonsense. Just pat yourself on the back for being such an elite computer user and never getting any viruses. Btw, so far I've found nothing on my computers and chances are it's one of the people who regularly come to my house with their laptops.

There is nothing wrong my post, take it as a hint. You will most likely find nothing on your computer this bad with free software, save yourself the agony and backup your stuff (minus the programs) to an external drive and wipe your computer and then scan the drive before moving it back on the freshly rebuilt OS. If your want a pretty decent free scanner which is very invasive, look at getting AVAST! Free version, just renew your free version every year without any problems, comes with a built in program scanner and makes sure that your program versions are up to date so that they are secure.

Yeahh...

Anyways, if it is a publicly distributed virus or sold for cheap, you will most likely find the virus using different AV companies. There is no ONE company that finds viruses and adds it to their dictionary first.

If you find a fishy file, scan it through this: https://www.virustotal.com/en/ . I believe VT scans using 42 (at the time I used it) different AV dictionaries. Even then, it may not detect anything, but its your best bet after isolating a file.

If the hacker coded his/her virus for personal use or is selling it at a high price, good luck finding it with any AV software.

....geez, you guys are giving overly complicated advice.

I have two options for you that would be much easier:

#1. Burn every computer you have and go buy new ones.

#2. Insert your Windows 7 or 8 disc and reformat the whole computer.

Back in the day, reformatting a hard disk actually took some knowledge (pre Windows XP days). Now it's become so incredibly I could probably face roll on the keyboard to reformat.

On, either way, get this on your new computer:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

I don't suggest what PLau or anyone else says because if you managed to get infected that badly, you probably have no idea wtf they're talking about

Combofix, ONE ****ING CLICK? How ****ing hard is that. ****.

I agree with the post stating the easiest option is to:

1) Wipe everything
2) Start clean
3) Have fully updated antivirus running and do regular full system scans
4) Last time I used Windows, Avast was the top dawg performance-wise

If IP's get reported to the ISP, they can monitor your traffic and detect a drone, so it's perfectly plausible.

Clicking a virus scanner to do its job isn't hard. Getting the user to install it is a whole 'nother issue. Some malware blocks websites which means they have to boot into safe mode and do all this fancy stuff that seems otherworldly to them.

The best solution is to keep it as simple as possible because if the user has an idea what they are doing, they wouldn't be posting on a motorcycle off topic forum!

Most of the time, reformatting your computer is used as a last resort so you don't use valuable data. If you don't care what you have on your computer, then by all means.

Also, most people don't have the OS disc as they tend to lose it.

run system restore to an earlier time.

Most viruses delete the system restore data and disable it.

Anyone with common sense in the world of computers would get an Anti-Virus program if they know that they have a virus. If you're able to navigate to gtamotorcycle.com, I'm sure you know how to search "Virus, what do I do?" in google which will pop up millions of results mostly AV company advertisements.

I gave those steps cause I know for a fact that most anti-virus programs don't get rid of viruses like you think they do. Most of the time, hackers make their virus to be "persistent" which allows the virus to run everytime the computer is booted up which disallows the AV to delete it cause the virus is running.

Steps I gave is actually pretty important if you want to be using your computer in a safe environment knowing that someone isn't going to empty your bank account the next day. Like I mentioned earlier, just because you have a virus, doesn't mean your AV software will detect it.

Of course, reformatting your comp is a sure way if having a clean computer, but if you happen to back up all your files and reformat, how would you know the virus isn't in one of the files you backed up? Most viruses are hidden in Setup files or spoofed extensions. *Cough* hint to people torrenting. Most people that crack programs (for the full version) have knowledge of using/creating viruses. What makes you think people post these out of the goodness of their own hearts?

Files on popular torrenting sites are moderated quite well. What I mean is that infected files are moved/deleted pretty quickly IF they're detected. If not, downloads just skyrocket in numbers. I've spoke to someone that had over 10k SEEDERS on his virus (which was a full version of photoshop). Just because the installer worked, doesn't mean that there isn't an undetected virus binded to it.

That's why I either keep mine empty or empty it out everyday, so nobody else will get it!!

It helps to not have any money to begin with.

What about overdraft, paypal, online purchases, and credit card information? :p
