victim of Road Rage, hit and run by a coworker, how should I handle this?

At face value, with your side of the story, this is definitely an employer issue, and things that happen elsewhere can be deemed an extension of the workplace. If you let it go you'll be condoning the behaviour and it will likely continue and escalate. Guy sounds like he has a screw loose. Contact your employer and the police.

+1 based on the training i've been given at my office. You have to return to your place of work which is now a hostile environment.

some good advice here, and some harshness--c'mon, cut this guy some slack. i'm sure he's still in shock a bit over how this escalated to sheer stupidity.

hopefully between the police and hr, you can alleviate what clearly is (or will be) a toxic workplace for you.

while you're at it, you might want to reconsider where you're working, because as rollandburn demonstrated, even if you do everything right, you may not get the remedy you seek. push hard to make things right, but be ready in case things still don't go your way.

"He Said - He Said"

Physical Evidence: damage to rear bumper of car. damage to front fender of motorcycle. Evidence points to a textbook rear-ending due to rider inattention.

you didn't mention any other witnesses so ...
in this case since you have guy #1 and guy #2 involved it becomes "He Said - They Said" ... and the odds are NOT in your favor.

Good luck.

these guys sound like a piece of work, I guess they don't like bikes or you or both. I think a helmet/dash cam would help here, even if it is a cheap one...if you had video of this it would help you out allot.

PS I just saw Rollandburn's post. Thank you for confirming that HR are useless cows. Who do you report them too? HR?
I was shocked by that post. In that case it should be reported to Sr Management and WSIB (who would have handled the company's claim for the worker that did get injured). If WSIB catches wind that the company knew about this risk (valet rage) through formal/informal complaints and chose to do nothing about it .... the premiums for their mandatory insurance would likely become astronomical to a point where it would affect company financial performance.

Listen man these guys are jerks and total *******. You need to go get your self some sort of camera and mount that thing on your bike, so the next time there is an incedent you have proof. This guy might get even dumber and try to really hurt you. As for getting HR involved this started at work with him harassing you there and then threatened you. They must provide a safe working enviroment and that includes stuff like this.

Saw this on the R6 forum. This guy got some serious jail time for this. I know it's a little different but it shows intent. Just as some one backing into you while another douch bag blocks you in from behind.

Good luck and stay safe. If you feel threatened get away from them by pulling into a parking lot or another buisness.

I'm almost thinking everyone needs to get a dashcam, I've heard this story about people reversing into someone way too many times. If you're in a car and someone reverses into you - you've got a fender bender, but when you're on a bike that's playing with your life. I definitely wouldn't be wondering how I should react. .......Naturally the common sense thing would be to key up the guys car at work. duh. (Kidding!)

Seriously, where do you work? How can a company be successful with employees that stupid. On a serious note, call the cops and when u leave work, don't give these jackass's any chance and get the f out of there, your on a bike so you can get in and out of places they can't

Thanks for the feedback.

There is nothing more to the story other than supposedly this guy is a volenteer fighfighter and because I didn't pull over for his green light in my car (as I didn't know what it was) and he has been ranting on it for a few weeks and likely stiring up others at the company. Give a security guard a uniform and they think they are the opp complex. This is an incident of Road Rage. My guess he doesn't like how I pass people (incident #1). Not my problem. I am afraid this guy is endemic. There are more of these types at work so really it's a company problem. What I find is certain people who live closer to work will deliberately drive slower and when you go to pass they speed up. There are also those who want to drive faster yet stay behind slower vehicles all the while making no effort to pass or either have the opportunity to. Both are the hazards I have come across. These are the drivers who will be "raged" when you pass them and the cars they are stuck behind.

Yes, I will raise the matter with the company. As for escalating this to the police we will see. There is no upside for me to elevate this to insurance or the police. Simply because of the time involved and the fact when you do an insurance quote you will have to include that. I don't want this to tarnish my future insurance quotes. As for someone saying it's a competition to get to the collision reporting center to point the finger, doubtful. I cleared the intersection and pullled over to inspect my bike. As I said guy #1 deliberately backed up and then drove off. That's failing to remain at the scene. Seeing this I Rolled my bike backwards with my feet. I stopped because I didn't want to roll into Guy #2. After I cleared the intersection, Guy #2 drove on by.

How this is escalated is entirely in my hands and come monday will be in the companies hands. Do I want to be a witness at court appearances, and so forth not really.

call his dept and report him for using that while not on a call. they lose their position for it.

This person has violated several offenses both at work and outside of work. You need to be more assertive here. This person clearly has anger issues and is targeting you it could also be argued that he impersonated a police office. You need to report him to the police immediately and speak with your HR / Ombudsman regarding harassment, when he leaves work in most organizations he still represents the company and is accountable for his behavior outside of work which is a reflection on the company. This is a dismissible offense in large companies. Know your rights at work they need to address this.

Should have called police right away...Green light is for volunteer firefighters, if he wasn't responding to a call he's in big ***** for using it. I would expect that there is zero tolerance for bullying and violence in your workplace ( isn't it the new law they passed a few years ago?). Your H.R. dept. should be acting right away. If this escalates and your H.R. dept knew about it I would sue their butts.

If he using his green light in "proper" terms, you must pull over to the right and treat it as such as an emergency vehicle.

If he is using it to be a hero, the police can charge him but they must see it in person being used. You can also contact his fire dept and let them know he is using it in such terms.

This wouldn't affect your insurance as he hit you with intent. It's too late to report it to the police, because they would ask, why didn't you call us from the scene. If you try and report it now he would use the other guy as a witness saying you hit him and took off. I would be totally surprised if he doesn't call the police and report it that way, and you would be screwed. It's time to be a man and handle it the way men do. Tell the tough guy, if he has a problem with you to meet up away from work and settle it.

Changes to Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) – effective June 15, 2010 – strengthen protections for workers from workplace violence and address workplace harassment. They define workplace violence and harassment and describe employer duties, and will apply to all workplaces covered by the OHSA.
