Since the Americas Cup is over for four years and the open ocean boats foil as well...here is a fix

It’s fallen again , aren’t we at [emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] something? Fully crewed record is [emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]? And this in nautical miles so something like [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]kms . Our biggest race in Lake Ontario is the LO[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] which has been finishes fastest in days , these guy would be done by dinner on day one . It’s nutty .

It seems to be an iPhone glitch that is only a problem on this website when I type a number instead of a character. Sorry folks , I’m not sure how to fix it , going forward I’ll spell out numbers to make it less painful .

I watch the OceanRace ( round the world in between the vendee years ) and the Vendee and now the Volvo is rearranged as a crewed around the world race. The level of effort to do this is insane . Hate to say it but Elon and his Starlink network is changing these events , and it’s for the better . Daily updates and reliable comms makes it a spectator sport , unlike the old golden globe race , and they are off! See you in six months ……..

Yeah I concur, constant contact including visuals has changed the sport for the better plus the safety aspect.
Drones too enhance the spectator experience.
Watching these big boats outrun the waves while not quite as immediately impressive as the 75m monsters on flat water doing near 60 knots...30 knots in open ocean is a whole other game.
That they are often sailed solo is insane.

and now - good historical view

22 million French follow it...

Noticed some of the models and see why people like to collect model sail craft. They are gorgeous.
Partner still wants to build a quality model of Darwin's Beagle

and downsizing our home is under consideration ....yeah right

Wife’s dad built boat models in retirement, he bought very high end kits ,then started building from just blueprints . Made about fifteen big models , which are hard to store . These round the world solo races would blow his mind .
There is a reason the French dominate this sport , nobody else wants to get on a boat with them .

SailGP - Dunno if any good. Wife watches it sometimes.

Thing about racing high strung boats in the open ocean , to finish first , you have to finish. These machines are getting kookoo in speed , which hinders lifespan
and @tat2 , yes sailGP is awesome , races are fast , short courses on time limits and a spectacle.

You are correct about busting boats ...I cannot believe the forces at work....just that opening few moments
Geez 35 knots and 10m waves and your bagged spinnaker goes overboard witr the bag in shreds....seriously lucky/skilled to get that thing back on board and useablel (y)
The lead boat in full flight in the Southern Ocean just gorgeous.

World has shrunk on the open oceans thanks to foils. 🍿
And I must admit Mr Musk has made that big empty accessible visually much to my enjoyment.

I had a mast come down on a Killing forty , Toronto to Niagara race , full crew and daylight . I can’t imagine cleaning that up in the ocean . But like Formula one cars , they are building these things to the edge of performance, when they fall over the edge ….
