Value of Parking Ticket: $150

Make sure you fight the ticket. The more people making dates the more it clogs up the system. You may even never get the court date because it's downtown Toronto. Worst case senario they will lower the ticket a bit for you.

OP, submit for a court date. On the court date request, ensure that you check off that you wish to dispute the officers testimony.
If the cop doesn't show you will most likely get off.

Spoken by someone who doesn't live in Toronto and has no idea of the ins and outs of city parking tickets.

Go to the parking office and show them the time on the ticket. There is unofficially a 10 minute grace. It worked for me once. If that fails, ask for a court date that will most likely never arrive.
Hmmm....let's see, I was born in Toronto, raised in Toronto. Learned to drive, ride in Toronto, got the hell outta Toronto for 17yrs. Then moved back to Toronto, stayed for 5yrs then left for good. I will NEVER live there again, and yes I've gotten a couple parking tickets myself.

Anyway, 5min before me (4:05pm) they gave me a ticket which has a value for $150!?

Not sure if its true, but the time in their ticket printing devices is always 5min ahead or so.
The reason for this, if your parking pay stub expires at 3:30, if they give you ticket at 3:32, you will win it, but a 5min courtesy applies.

So, you probably got ticketed at like 4:01 or 4:02 and it shows 4:05...

But don't quote me on that, but i would definitely take it to court.

Thank u soooo much guys these are really good guide for me ☺ I'll go there this Thursday..

I've never had a court date for a parking ticket, is the parking enforcer required to show up?

If you check the box stating that you wish to challenge the officer's testimony, then yes.

I would argue that Asquith is not a key rush hour route. It's pretty much a back alley between the HBC and the library.

^ Good point.

OP, you can also do the dispute by email. You don't have to go to the office.

What???

For me its cheaper to pay them 75 then to take a day off work.

Ive attempted to fight a parking tic once. Didnt pan out well.

I was parked in a 3 car green p with a valid permit but my nose was sticking out by maybe 1.5ft. It was a long car and all the space I had due to an idiot parker behind me. Took pics of my car in relation to the sign. How close I was to the car behind me and how far they were from being properly parked. I was told to email it to them. Which I did.

Waited 3 months to get denied my dispute then was given 7 days to pay it before their outrageous penalties (double the fine).

Because I disputed it I had to actually travel to keele and Lawrence to pay it. (45 min away) as a check wouldn't have made it and cleared in time. Online wouldn't accept the transaction.

At the end of the day it was worth it for me to pay the 30 bucks as it cost me more in gas and advil.

So ya. If they guarantee half cost id do it.

In Mississauga, yes, they are actually paid to attend court....I can't speak for Toronto....

Yes, Toronto parking officers are required to show up for court dates and they usually do. Even a year after the ticket was issued. Worst case scenario: request a court date, receive a court date, officer shows up, plead guilty with explanation, plead student poverty, judge reduces fine to half.

Here's my story from a month or so ago in downtown Toronto.

I pleaded "not guilty" to a "no standing" ticket and was subsequently asked by the judge if my vehicle was there. My answer was "yes" and, as I understood it with that judge on the stand, I had no chance whatsoever so long as the vehicle was there.

I asked if I could then plead guilty with an explanation and she accepted.

When I parked, it was legal. However they then erected a "no standing" zone around my bike while I was parked there. Maybe I should not have parked where I did in the first place but they should have cordoned off the area if they anticipated doing construction on the sidewalk and erecting no parking signs. Upon hearing this, the judge agreed that it was unfair but, nonetheless, in her eyes, I was still guilty because my vehicle was there in the no standing zone after it had been erected. It's black and white. Yes or no.

Result: $60 ticket dropped to a $15 fine. For tickets in the $60 range, your ultimate fine will be 1/4 or 1/3 of the original charge if you plead guilty. Don't know about the bigger buck tickets though. Take it to court. You might get off with a $50 fine just for the effort.

Sorry, maybe it''s not but parkingticketguys.com looks kind of shady! Anyone have any experience with them?

Fighting a $30 ticket and losing... that must have sucked ;)
