Value of Parking Ticket: $150

So these guys can guarantee basically its going to be 50% off from my ticket fine? Is there anything I should know about it because it seems too good to be true.

Ive never used them as they started supporting my car forum AFTER I got my last parking tic. They have good reviews on the site (car forum) though.

Edit. I can't seem to find the thread tough and they are no longer sponsors.

I do remember a guy getting texts with progress updates. But again cant find the review.

Horrible advice - If a big corporation like UPS bunches them up and makes a deal on a discount, why can the normal citizen do the same?

I always wondered about ups/fedex and especially canada post. They are probably one of the worst controllable traffic flow impeders. Some trucks have 10+ tickets on their windshield. What's the deal? Do they really get a volume discount? The city letting this go on is clearly a dirty cash grab that screws us over. This is especially low of canada post, which is a crown corporation.

PS: **** street cars.

As for the ticket ask for disclosure and a translator if you speak any other language. http://www.ticketcombat.com/parking/parkingdisclosure.php

I got one of those tickets parking on st clair during rush hour it got dropped from $60 ticket to $20 . Just plead guilty i wont be surprised if you end up only having to pay $60 or less

It's a bike.. what are they driving that they can't get around it, construction vehicles? seriously.. I can image if it were a Hummer or some oversized SUV/Van but lets be realistic here. It takes up like a foot of width.

There's a 5 or 10min Grace period for tickets in Toronto. Do a search on thestar.

Edit. Probably doesn't apply in this case as you parked beyond the time and impeded traffic..

Yes, i remember CP24 did a news release on it, and people at the Traffic Court House did not look too happy ;)))

yea I was told this by a driver in UPS - the drivers are told it is more expensive to find parking, walk to the delivery place (time is money) than just to get a ticket, so they collect all tickets through out the day and the company gets a bulk discount.

Not sure if this will change with the new law.

Lol you made me laugh with this whole Jar ordeal.

OP, Regardless of what that B*** of Minnan-Wong says, request a trial and explain you were only 10 min late and you simply can not pay for it.

..and more importantly, come back in here and help us out by updating us with the results.

+1, these ****ers want unimpeded traffic blow but they still make it a pain in the *** for motorcyclists. They're full of ****, and its a straight money grab is all.

It doesn't hurt trying and you can just do it yourself. I use to rack up a ******** of tickets at UTM in the winter because I refused to pay 14 bucks to park when sometimes I was only there for 2-3 hours. Most days I'd get lucky, some days I didn't and got a $25 ticket. The Mississauga courthouse is on my way home so when I had a bunch I'd go in and ask for a meeting with whoever those guys are, it was always this same old dude and he always dropped them to $10. In the end it was just cheaper to risk a ticket and spend 10-15 minutes at the courthouse...

not if you know how to legally park a bike. It takes up about 2/3's of the lane.

When you park at a meter and forget to pay its excusable to plead for leniancy.

When you park on a busy street and impede the flow of rush hour traffic, inconveniencing potentially thousands of drivers, you're just a douche. No excuse. And a properly parked bike takes up more than half the lane, so every driver in the right lane would have to shift over to the left.

How are you parking dude?

OP, basically take the ticket in to schedule a court date. You will be notified by mail in about 3-6 weeks of your court date. It will probably be a good 6-12 months in the future. Write it down and make sure you don't miss it. On your day in court, you will be put into a room with about 30 other people. The prosecutor will tell you that if you plead guilty you will be given a reduction. That reduction will depend on the day and the infraction and the prosecutor. They won't really make a specific deal with you but you can ask. Chances are you'll have it reduced by 50%. If you're choosing to not plead guilty, you will be called on at the end of the group and made to wait through all the other people pleading guilty. At that point, I don't know what happens because regardless of how right I felt in the evidence I had to support how ******** my ticket was, it wasn't worth the risk. In my case I decided I'd rather the sure thing of the reduced ticket.

I got a ticket back in February... Went in to schedule a court date and have not received anything from them.... Should i contact them or keep quiet?

If you park it illegally maybe... Even then, my bike is small and is spec'd as 28 inches wide which is over 2 feet.

No news is good news. Do not ask about your court date, you'll end up reminding them. After a year and still no court date, you're safe to toss the ticket.

Okay the 10 minute grace doesn't apply in your situation but you should still try it.

Time Allowances/Grace Periods for Parking Offences

The City's Parking Ticket Cancellation Guidelines identifies time allowances for certain time-limited offences.
Time Allowance for On-Street Pay-and-Display Parking Offences

Customers who park on-street, in a permitted area where a pay-and-display reciept is required, and who receive a parking ticket within ten minutes of the expiry time of their paid-and-display receipt may have the ticket cancelled. A copy of the receipt showing purchased time and expiry time must be provided. The minimum time purchased must be no less than ten minutes and the receipt location must match the offence location in order to meet the cancellation conditions. The ten minute time allowance does not apply where parking is prohibited or on major arterial routes during rush hour periods.

Damn that's good info. Now that the rates have jacked especially. I recently got my 3rd parking ticket after some jerk actually moved my bike outside a parking zone, but outside of that Ive never been more than 15 minutes late. OP, it looks like they actually went easy on you by marking it 4:05. Maybe they knew you could take advantage of this rule. Edit: Doh, reread that last sentence. You should still try.

I got the same parking ticket two weeks back on Younge St. I'm totally guilty of parking during rush hour - though I had no idea that I couldn't (+1 to being naive and ignorant, I was there from 2-5pm, I understand why it isn't allowed, I also don't normally travel down to the busy parts of Toronto ... again, it really was an honest mistake, but I know better now). It is a 150$ ticket, I filed for a court date, because I'm a broke student and cannot afford to pay it. I'm hoping to get it reduced. It's also my first ticket (if you can even count that as one). So we're in the same boat >___>
