US Election 2020

I know next to nothing about the US system but the Democratic convention is slated for August 17-20 in Milwaukee and the Republican August 24-27 in Charlotte NC. There was mention of a virtual convention for the Democrats. Considering the thousands of delegates, media personnel, onlookers and support staff virtual is a good idea for this one. There is a reason they hold these things in arenas....body count.

The Democrats are still in the roller derby phase bumping off the weak.

Being anti Trump I can't see the Republicans backing him again but he got in the last time. One of the dangers of focusing on a person's weak points is that their strengths are often overlooked. Trump is an expert in that field.

I copied this from Wikipedia and it shows that Trump has no opposition unless I misunderstand.

Pre-convention delegate count
CandidatePledged delegates[17]Presumed "soft" count, including
unpledged delegates[17]
Donald Trump1,4541,463
Bill Weld11
Available delegates9881,086
Total delegate votes2,4432,550

Yes Trump could win again. Even in Canada too many vote subjectively, based on what they think they deserve.

Trump runs an emotional campaign while Biden runs a practical one. It is a circus not an election.

I think they should just prepare for 4 more years of Trump. I don't see anyone challenging him, unless the party dumps him fully...but I'm not sure how that works as I'm not familiar at all with US politics or their circus elections.

It's still a long way out. With the way trump treats social distancing, his age and his gut there is probably a double digit percentage chance that he doesn't make November.

I have a feeling that this is sad but true.

On his own, he can't.

There have been many changes in the background he has been doing and trying with the help of the other Republicans that make me wonder what they are up to. I agree it is a difficult task but history has shown it is not an "impossible" task.

Agreed but we are focusing his other antics as he does so. A magician's assistant doesn't have showgirl legs just for fun. So much razzle dazzle no one watches where the rabbit comes from. If 1,000,000 die from C-19 he'll take credit for keeping the count from reaching 2,000,000.

Also the possibility he loses the election and then refuses to step down as the results were "corrupt" and "illegal" due to claims of voter fraud....

Then what???

I predict Trump will continue. Republican's won't oust him, that's not the way they do things.

The economy needs to be in shambles AND the republican base need to be feeling a lot of hurt before they switch their vote. One could hold their breath and say the economy will be in shambles however this is a relative thing and it's going to be hard to tie that directly to Trump given worldwide nature of things.

Another thing to remember is Trump has an endless supply of red meat, he likes to throw that around and come November he'll be butchering the Chinese, WHO, and just about every democrat who held things up during the crisis - Americans have a big appetite for this stuff.

Also, it's going to be hard to challenge him on rebuilding the economy if that's necessary, he got it to run near the redline before, voters will have to decide whether he or Joe is better equipped to get it back there. In the US when the economy is down, elections get centered around it -- James Carville put it best in his famous quote about the key election issue "The economy, stupid". Joe won't win on that.

Trump was determined the presumptive nominee March 27
RNC has announced this and that he is the only candidate that will receive party money
the GOP convention will be ceremonial, he will be the nominee

the general is really going to be interesting, and of course the pandemic will alter the outcome
if this winds down over the next few months and the economy fires back up like prior
I think Trump will get re-elected, even though people will continue to die off by the thousands/week

I see a real nasty trend in American media lately - the racial bias in covid infections
blacks and hispanics are far more likely to be infected and even more likely to die
this is going to be used by the radical right as another wedge issue to divide them
and there's no doubt it's going to whip up more Wall sentiment with the Red Hats

the gamesmanship is being elevated to another level by the GOP - master manipulators
the Dem primary in Wisconsin the other day is an example

state is on an ordered lockdown and had tried to postpone the vote - Dem Governor
GOP appealed to state supreme court and won - vote had to go ahead
Governor tried to have the deadline for mail in ballots extended to allow people to vote from home
GOP challenged in US Supreme Court and won - no extension
so while there is a state ordered lockdown, and Trump is on TV telling people to stay home
Dem voters in Wisconsin had to go out and line up at polling stations because 2 Supreme Courts decided they had to

insanity

and they closed a crap-ton of polling stations

yep
many are saying - and I think it's accurate
Wisconsin Dem primary was used by the GOP as practice for November

there will be more dirty tricks - making it difficult to vote in balck and hispanic areas
and 2 Supreme Court wins in their favour has them smiling
