Disability support is vague. There are programs and tax concessions for the disabled but no catalog of all services available, federal, provincial, municipal and independent service organizations.
When it comes to riding, I pay about an extra $1K/year (maybe more, I try to ignore the monthly insurance ding to the bank account) in insurance on my motorcycle for the full-potato level of coverage. If something happens when I'm on 2 wheels and I end up needing to be fed through a tube for the rest of my days, It'll all be paid for.
As for anything outside that, critical sickness insurance seems to be a good choice. I have a friend who survived cancer a number of years ago and, based on his lifestyle changes since that period in time, I believe collected pretty significantly on that. I wish I'd bought one of these plans 25 years ago when they were offered to us and were cheap as we were young and in pretty good health, as reality is I think I'd have already collected once from my head injury 2 years ago, and might have also collected again based on some other ongoing health issues that I really fear are going to end my career before retirement. But hey, hindsight is always 20/20, right?
